From WOS: Lloyd Webber said that the show, when it returns this year (the current opening date is early June), will be "even better than ever" and that he had been in the venue with co-producer Cameron Mackintosh yesterday to discuss plans, with "a lot of things" in the theatre being done to make it "more Phantom-like".

I don’t think there was a single prop in it was there? The Lady’s Paying would have benefited from some clothes being thrown around but nothing. I think it was a conscious decision not to. does the monkey count as a prop?

Really enjoyed watching this again last night. Just the tonic after all the bad news of the day. But boy did it make me miss seeing live shows!

Does this mean they've now kept the original stage machinery? Interesting to see the proscenium without the sculptures. /

From what I know, it didn't rise from the stage, but instead it was hump up and would lower down and shake. I've also heard that they were originally intending to have a chandelier that would be like the one in HMT, but for some reason they weren't able to do so, so they reused the one from the 2012 tour and they were planning to unveil the chandelier that they had intended in Manchester. As for this post, I'm not sure if this is an acknowledgment of the original's return or not. Maybe the chandelier will rise again like before, who knows. Is this meant to be ‘hung up’? Otherwise I’m imagining 3 sweaty workmen lugging it up the stairs of HMT & chucking it off the balcony every night. 3 sweaty workmen? Hmmm, Where do I get my ticket....

Did the chandelier rise in the latest tour version or is this an acknowledgement of the return of the original? /

It's interesting to see these comments on the distancing. When I saw it live it really wasn't that apparent- there were a few moments which I can recall, but they seemed more like natural staging choices rather than something that had been imposed.

As Manchester was previously in tier 3 it's not looking very positive for this going ahead. Will be such a shame as the Lowry tweeted pictures yesterday of them turning out the ghost light and getting the set in.

Slightly off tangent but after someone mentioned Rent Remixed earlier in this thread I made the mistake of looking up clips on YouTube. I remember enjoying it back when I saw it, but seeing it now...well some of their choices were questionable, to say the least.

Touring again next year. Guess it'll be the same old production that's toured for the last few years but I guess theatres are playing it safe with popular choices for opening back up.

Have they mentioned the final few performances which might (in an I admit highly optimistic world) be after lockdown? Not from what I could see. Can’t see that being viable. You’d have to pay the cast a retainer presumably? if everybody who was due to see it agreed to convert their ticket to streaming then HM could come out of this ok financially. Better off even. I assume they’ll be offering that. would that be allowed, after the previous post saying they were only allowed a limited number of streaming tickets to cover lost capacity?

Well I'm here for tonight's show. They're certainly taking lots of precautions on the way in, though am a bit surprised that the only separation between groups is a sheet of plexiglass, no seats left empty. The new seating is also rather cosy! Not much room to spread. Set looks awesome. Can see the band behind a sheer curtain at the rear of the set. Havent they removed rows? Yes I think so. There were 6 rows I think. We were in the front one. Boy the new seats are uncomfortable, maybe it's because we were squeezed between the sheets of plastic but there is no room to move on them at all. Anyway, really enjoyed the show itself. The cast are really enthusiastic, they are present all the time. When they aren't performing on the central podium where the action takes place then they sit around the edge and join in. Some clever choices in the staging. Even though the cast have isolated together, they obviously aren't allowed to touch and it's interesting to see how they get round it. Highlights for me were Tango Maureen (which may owe more than a little to a certain part of the recent JCS staging) and Contact where a giant plastic sheet is utilised. Was lovely to see a cast giving so much and when they all came togethet for the "no day but today" at the end I may have had a tear or two. Not sure how this will fare after next week- the artistic director gave a little speech at the beginning about how they had had to overcome obstacles to get where they were and that they were now facing more.

preview were £22. I've got tickets for Saturday night but still not sure how I feel about going. Don’t say that. I’m trying to talk myself into it. what are your concerns? I think it's the fact it's such a small space, and being sat in between the plastic screens.

Anyone know where I can download any of Tom Jones’ versions of the songs from ‘Matador’? They don’t appear to be on Itunes or spotify. I have the cd somewhere but would rather just download it. Glad it's not just me who couldn't find this! I was looking for it a few months ago.

When is Sharons all female ‘Aspects’ starting? Lovely of her to rewrite ‘Love Changes Everything’ for the Lord while he was sat there. It reminded me of John Partridges ‘Bui Doi’ in the first ‘Miss Saigon’ tour. It’s not that it was too much....oh no, yes, it was just too much. But only in my opinion. Not just your opinion. I hated it. I was surprised Mary Poppins won so much, isn't it basically the same production that was up for awards last time it was in the West End?

Oh I wondered what this weekends offering was. I enjoyed the spectacle and the orchestra, and Shayne Ward had a set of pipes on him, but it did go on a bit. I tried this last night but gave up after about 45 minutes. It was very spectacular and I think I would have really enjoyed it if I had watched it live, but I just found it a bit boring. I don't know what I was expecting but with quite a few MT names I was expecting more songs. I only heard 1 person singing (Marti Pellow) in the section I watched, so maybe the rest of the songs were later on. Also when the names of the cast came up at the beginning there was no mention of Shayne Ward which was one of the main reasons for me watching it. Shayne Ward was in a different tour to the one filmed. Ricky Wilson plays the role in this version.
