Well it seems arguing over orchestra size is nothing new for Cam Mac. I was reading the Making of Miss Saigon book yesterday and there's an anecdote in there about how they wanted an orchestra of 32 for Drury Lane but he put his foot down and told them no more than 30! Ah those were the days... I know it's O/T, but are you able to share any goss from that book on the fall-out between CM and Trevor Nunn re CM telling Nunn he could not direct both Saigon and Aspects? I hear the book discussed that a bit... yep there's a whole chapter on that. Very interesting!

Most of the last tour of Rock of Ages was inappropriate with it's overly sexual staging

I'll shout Sam Bailey some love if no-one else will, I think she's fab. Yes, not a great actress, but those pipes! I'll second that love. She has a fantastic voice!

This is back out next year on tour next year. Kevin Clifton has just been flogging it on GMB but I missed which role he is? Surely not the Artilleryman? Does he have that rock tenor voice? I know he’s just been cast in something much more in his skillset for this Summer but WOTW surprised me. Nice to see nice doing well. Yes he's the Artillery Man. It will also include Claire from Steps.... /

And also "Although many of our brilliant original creative colleagues including, Hal Prince, Maria Björnson and Gillian Lynne are sadly no longer with us, their work lives on inspiring our new creative team to stage the Phantom afresh, as if it was a brand new production." Otherwise known as “lower paid Associates will rip off the best bits of the original designs and overall the whole thing will be a cheaper pale imitation of the original. But we’ll still charge you expensive tickets prices. You are so welcome!” Precisely. I seem to recall them using similar marketing when the Laurence Connor tour was announced

"Putting the new version of the original Phantom production back into its perfect home Her Majesty's Theatre, 35 years after its premiere, is an unexpected thrill." LOL at the cakeism here--"it's the original production!...but a new version." Not sure how you put something "back" in that was never there. I see Manon Taris has been cast in the ensemble. She was the alternate in the aborted Paris production (and far superior to Sierra Boggess). And also "Although many of our brilliant original creative colleagues including, Hal Prince, Maria Björnson and Gillian Lynne are sadly no longer with us, their work lives on inspiring our new creative team to stage the Phantom afresh, as if it was a brand new production."

Chicago is probably a rich seam. Definitely. Both times I've seen it had awful performers as Billy. Marti Pellow was..well Marti, but he wasn't quite as bad as John Altman fresh out of Eastenders.

I give them until 5pm to update their digital marketing to capitalise on her now being an Oscar winner.

Interesting twist he's spun here, implying we should be grateful that without the pandemic causing the cancellation of the UK Tour, Phantom on West End would have closed. It's 'have the touring production or nothing at all'. I interpreted that as we'd have got the touring production eventually. Even if the pandemic hadn't occured and the tour had gone as planned it would have been brought into London as a replacement when it ended.

The motorbike crash in Bat Out of Hell was a good one. I found the Cadillac moment pretty astounding

Well that's just rubbing salt in the wounds... "listen, this is how Phantom could sound with a proper orchestra" (And before anyone says it, I'm not suggesting trying to get an 81 piece orchestra in Her Majesty's) /

So apparently the producers of the tour have faced criticism that despite auditioning trans actors for certain roles, they've only been given understudy roles to cis males.

Never saw BOOH on stage, but I've always loved the album. Anyone remember "Original Sin" by the way? Yes, I have the Pandora's Box album with that on.

Jim Steinman has sadly passed away, aged 73 x He's left an amazing legacy of tunes. And of course not only is he responsible for BOOH but he also contributed to Whistle Down the Wind

It's worth watching this tweet right to the end. Although the one-act format is retained, after the interval our Jodie is going to sing some extra songs and chat. You can't say you don't get your money's worth! She did this when she toured it a few years ago (see previous posts a few pages back) It's basically about 20 mins of questions the audience submit before the show interspersed with about 3 or 4 other songs

Jodie Prenger is touring this again later this year. Lowry in October. Got an email for this earlier. I guess it's an easy show to put out relatively quickly and no need for the cast to distance.

Going slightly off topic I know, but everytime someone mentions Joe Public, does anyone else immediately hear the voice of Marion Clune in Acorn Antiques? "We professionals notice - Joe Public never clocks a darn thing."

I believe Moulin Rouge is not beginning performances in the West End until October and these dates are only through Sept... they go through to 2022
