I haven't seen Amy yet (I will be this weekend) but I must agree that television performances aren't a very accurate indicator of an Elphabas performance. Nikki Davis-Jones performed on The Late Late Show and Blue Peter, but nothing like that compared to her live vocals, she was a powerhouse!

I still maintain that Nikki Davis-Jones is the best I have seen the role of Elphaba acted. Since Amy seems to have many similar aspects to her performance, I am incredibly excited to watch her live!

Just saw Amy Ross performing on TV3, and I must say I am very impressed with her portrayal. From only a snippet, she showed so much variety in her performance. Her facial expressions were fantastic. I am very excited to see her in Liverpool next week!

I can't understand why the 2NT hasn't implemented Chistery holding the Grimmerie in No Good Deed like he does on the UK tour, it's a far better compromise than having Elphaba hold the book in one hand while attempting to cast a spell!

I am surprised that Ashley got the part at all. I saw him on Broadway in January and his performance left a lot to be desired I'm afraid to say!

I believe it's Ireland and Scotland that are getting the worst of the weather, so I think Bristol should be fine for the show to go ahead!

The show is coming on tour to Dublin in April and I was just wondering is it worth the trip? I'd have to go to a Monday/Tuesday evening as all the matinees are sold out sadly. Willing to give the show a miss if it's not that good, it would mean a rather tedious three hour bus journey for me, both ways!

I think it's likely that Alice will be off tomorrow, so I hope you enjoy the (potential) double standby show!

I am so very envious of you! I am seeing the tour around 20 times so hopefully I will manage to see both Nikki and Charli, but seeing both at the same show would be a dream! Amy seems to be taking the sensible option of calling out when she knows she's not able to go on, so I imagine I will see Nikki quite a bit (as the majority of my shows are midweek matinees)

I recently saw Wicked on Broadway and was immediately annoyed when two young girls were sat in front of me. They were perhaps 7 or 8 at the most? Anyway, throughout the entire performance they were constantly talking to eachother, stretching their arms (and legs!) into the air in front of them, turning their heads around to look at the audience behind them and just generally causing a great deal of annoyance to me (and the lovely family sitting next to me) for the entire show. I understand that Wicked is by no means a complex show, but I really feel that the age restriction on the show should be 12+, children younger than this really just don't seem to hold the attention span necessary to sit still through a show this long and can't pick up on the themes that run through the show. Even during the spectacle of Defying Gravity one of the girls had her head turned around because she deemed staring at me to be of more interest.
The grandparents of these girls were no better really, talking to them throughout the entire show and not once reprimanding them for their poor behaviour. It really makes you wonder why they would pay $240 per seat (I found out the prices of their seats) so they could not pay attention throughout the show. Surely a day at an activity/play centre would have been a much better use of that kind of money. Whenever I see children sitting near me in Wicked, I just groan as time and time again they prove they can't behave appropriately in the theatre. I think perhaps I have only ever had one child behave well in my many times seeing Wicked, and that was because she fell asleep! Rant over, sorry! (and no offence to anyone who brings well behaved children to the theatre, perhaps I've just been unlucky to always be stuck with the brats!)

There were no monkeys hanging from the grid? That's very odd considering they definitely had this on the original tour, and the reveal doesn't really make sense if there isn't anything to reveal...

The reviews of Amy Ross seem to generally be rather positive, with many remarking a massive improvement in her performance since she began. This is really promising, especially considering I will be seeing her perform at least 10 times throughout the tour!

I've only seen a double "standby" show twice myself, once with Jackie Hughes and Carina Gillespie in Salford and later with Jodie Steele and Elizabeth Futter in Bradford! It feels like a somewhat special occasion, in particular the latter example as it was Elizabeth's debut also!

Will Lucie Jones still be playing Elle by the time the production comes to Killarney? If not I might have to take the trip to Dublin!

Regardless, ATG seems to offer and overall better deal for tickets, aside from the outrageous "top tier" which is £85!

Emma and Savannah leaving brought many blessings indeed! I am still not quite over the glowstick incident however, whoever thought that was a good idea really needs a good long think.

I find it quite annoying that Ticketmaster are in charge of tickets for the Bord Gais, their ticket fees are ridiculous and the €5 "student discount" is laughable when you have to pay €8 in additional charges. Also I notice that Ticketmaster have far less price brackets than ATG, seats in the very back of the stalls are still going at premium prices (around €65) while a similar seat in an ATG venue would be around £40, even with conversion rate there is quite the difference, and at least with ATG there aren't fees quite a lot of the time!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Both seats are £64 so regardless of my choice the price will stay the same. The 5th row seat is about 6 seats in from the very end of the row, not the worst but considering the theatre is wide it would definitely be a side view. I think I will go with the 11th row centre seat, sometimes it can be nice to sit a little further back and get a more "cinematic" view of the show!

Is anyone familiar with the layout of the the Liverpool Empire? Debating whether to sit in the fifth row (to the right) or the 11th row (centre)

I think the UK and the US go to two very different extremes when it comes to covers for roles. With Natalie Andreou, while she hadn't officially left, she had not performed for months and had already made clear her intentions of leaving the show. I was concerned that a former Elphaba had not been brought in to cover much sooner, and thought it was unfair that Michelle didn't become standby for the final few months of the contract.
In the US however, if Nessa for example) is gone of holiday for a week they will often bring in a former cast member to cover, as opposed to letting the understudy cover the role for the week. I find this very strange, but I suppose it is better than the UK where they quite literally push the cast to breaking before admitting they need help!

I'm not listening to audios of the cast until I have seen them live (in Liverpool) but I am very glad that Nikki is getting really positive reviews, I really look forward to seeing her!

This is such a random venue. The INEC isn't even really a theatre, but it's far closer than Dublin, so I guess I'll be seeing the show there instead!

A friend who was at Nikki's debut said that she is more of a belter than a riffer (she apparently had a much more powerful belt than Amy). She also did a Fiyero riff in No Good Deed, which is a nice surprise from a debut show!

To be honest, regardless of the schedule I think Amy should have at least one or two shows off every single week. The role of Elphaba is incredibly tough to play 8 times a week, let alone when you're constantly moving from venue to venue. Nikki having scheduled shows each week would ensure that Amy has enough vocal rest each week, and gives Nikki time to grow into the role and build up a stamina.
As for Zurich, the show is operating on a 4 show weekend schedule it seems.

I would think that Amy taking a scheduled break this early on would indicate that Nikki could be an alternate. I find it unusual that Amy would have a scheduled show off this early into her run, unless she was going to have scheduled shows off every week
