Steve, what a review! Heard some people admired this show as well, but they didn't give any details but your post is so helpful for beginning to understand what's to anticipate. Thank you! Now I'm def intrigued and going to watch live stream!

Thanks for the info, guys! Anyone knows if the original cast leaves in the middle of the run or stays untill October?

Oh, I'd love that! Been a huge fan of David Bryan for ages! First Memphis came, now this. Thanks for the news!

I would not call him a bully but he's cleary the dominant one in their relationship. It's a fine line.. Maybe the actor just could not get it right.. If you manage find that radio version - I recommend to give it a go.

I only listened to radio production a couple of years ago(same cast as originally at The Royal Court - Ben Whishaw/Andrew Scott) and found it utterly compelling.

Well, I must say I didn't get the swooing over Norton either (judging mostly from glimses of him here and there) till the day I saw Death Comes to Pemberley. Maybe it's just period costumes indeed (cheeky gran of his! ) but suddenly I though "this chap has charisma in bucketloads pouring through the screen". Somehow it doesn't reach you in static or straight away but the more you see of him the more you get drawn. Yet to catch War & Peace (shame on me, Russian girl! ) but I'm already envy you guys, who will get a chance to see James on stage and in such a tiny venue. These dates most unfortunately fall in between my London visits..

jeanhunt, from where I am standing being not as brilliant at my own country's traditions as I want to I still reckon as follows: - In the times the play was written (late 19th century) it was quite common to call members of the family in full name - not only if the person is elder than you are, but also the gran could call her grand daughter e.g. Sonya Nikolaevna on the occasion they are not alone in the room/ guests visiting. It was the sign of showing respect and it didn't mean the family members had no affection for each other if they spoke in such official fashion. It didn't affect the kids though, not till they reach certain age. - However, it wasn't uncommon either to use shortened diminutive names (Luba-Lubochka, Sasha-Sashenka, Petya-Petenka, Misha-Mishenka) especially in tet-a-tet conversations to show fondness. In fact there are the whole variety of diminutive versions of a single name in Russian lanuage which I doubt exist elsewhere. Mine has at least 6 if you can believe that The tradition of calling your family nambers by their full name + patronymic was fading out slowly as we moved closer to morden times and now used only for people that are complete strangers to you (or your higher ranked/elder colleagues sometimes, teachers, etc). I gotta admit I haven't read this play nor seen it staged so it's hard to judge on that particular character and why it's been treated like that. Uncle Vanya can also be a playful joky way of addressing him, but only in a kind sort of way, but not dismissive.

Peggs, just remembered that Man & Superman was a hot ticket as well! And I agree it's becoming harder with each passing year but still better than a choice of tickets you usually have when public booking opens. Let's see how it's gonna turn out this time

Peggs, yes, still do. Maybe I just got lucky recently and got my trips a bit later in the run when everybody else has already booked for earlier dates. From my experience the first month of the run is harder to get tickets to then the rest of it. And obviously I try to book as soon as tickets go on sale (within an hour). The only problem I can recall was Ballyturk in September 2014.. But I guess it's only because it was on for less than 2 months and already had reviews and all (being at Galway the same summer).

Parsley, you're back Yeah, that's right. The initial email said just "Members" without defining which ones. I personally bother with Advance Membership because thus I can get 15 pound tickets for anything I want to see and on the days I can make which are few. If I were to live in London, I would just show up when they become available nearer to the date.

The email from NT states Feb 29 as booking date for Advance Members yet initially it was Feb 22. Not sure if Public booking date changed as well..

Baemax, Olivia is tranferring (she is Nt's darling after all), and yes, I see your point... Btw, I think her Sasha will be a lovely match to Geoffrey Streatfeild's Ivanov

Polly, I imagine they will do at least 5 months run with it (with break for Chekhov starting in July), probably even longer if actor's schedule allows. Remember Othello was running for 7 month.. But you'll never guess in advance. I believe they are to realease tickets in batches (May-July first) like they always do and if the bottom date in the list does't have "LAST" mark, it means the show will extend.

I wonder how they are going to manage 4 show (Opera + 3 Chekhov) at Olivier in the summer.. Unless they plan to do mostly 3 Chekhov plays in one day but that's exhausting for the cast..

I'm super excited about the upcoming shows! Sounds smashing! It's been a while snce I could say I wanna see EVERYTHING at The National! My personal Yay goes to Geoffrey Streatfeild in cast for Young Chekhov. Now I wonder when they are going to release the brochure/dates so I can plan my summer trip carefully before the booking

I was on the front row on Jan 15 openning the bottle with my teeth and being (proudly) the one responsible for poisoning Peter Pan 'cause I was rooting for Crocodile anyway! Fantastic show indeed! Sad to see it gone...

Considered missing this (can't say a word about the play itself, didn't like the film - too bloody depressive, characters unlikable all over), but the prospects of having the marvelous Helen McCrory as the lead changes everything! Wonder about male parts now.. )

First preview for me! Got a ticket behind the pillar in row H, the one I like for Harlequinade. Anyone knows the running time (trying to contact the venue via Twitter - no response)? Rather pressing issue for me on this particular date. I googled the previous production(same cast) and it said 80 minutes. Hope they are not adding extra bits lol ))
