Sophie doesn't look like she has a funny bone in her body. She has a lovely voice from what I remember but I really can't imagine her bringing much humour to the role. Quoting myself here, but even before she started I knew Sophie wouldn't be great, acting wise. Comedic timing of plank of wood.

I'm pretty sure the amount of riffs Eden Espinosa and Shoshana Bean added in would still be more than the riffs of every London Elphaba combined.

Now they have a strict list of riffs Elphaba can do: "Things I've never felt", "And I", They can go up on the last "Girl", the first "Defying gravity", they can growl and/or do an extended note on "look to the western sky", the Jenny Dinoia "How-W II-ii", 2nd "Bring me down", They do a two step "Fiyerooo-ooo-oooo", "Ever again", and the final "Again". Honey, what's this? What's happening? What's going on here?

When Annie sings 'tomorrow' for the first time on the street with Sandy the correct lyrics are "you're always a day away." There is a deliberate change to the lyrics later in the show when Annie sings 'tomorrow' with FDR and they sing "you're only a day away."
The 1982 Annie movie does not feature the scene where Annie sings 'tomorrow' on the street with Sandy - only the scene with FDR.

Went to see this on Friday evening. I saw the UK tour of Annie years ago and loved it so I was looking forward to seeing this production but it did not live up to my expectations.
Annie was played by Lola Moxom (her last performance). Lola was quite good in the role, her accent and acting were good and her singing was fine but the song 'tomorrow' in particular was much too big for her. She also sang the incorrect lyrics when she is singing 'tomorrow' with Sandy - should have been "you're always a day away" but she sang "you're only a day away."
Meera Syal was disappointing as Miss Hannigan. Meera's singing was great but her acting is what let her down. The role of Miss Hannigan is naturally funny but I feel like Meera overacted, missing most of the humour. I also feel like her accent covered all of the American states.
Alex Bourne was a fantastic Daddy Warbucks. He can sing, act and brought a welcome bit of comedy to the role.
Holly Dale Spencer was fine as Grace. Nothing outstanding but certainly nothing negative.
Both both actors playing Lily and Rooster were also very good in their roles.
The musical itself is quite iconic and I do not think the wig, costume or set design helped do this show any justice. As much as I wanted to love it, I didn't and definitely don't think this particular production deserves any place in the West End.

Finally got to see this tonight and I can't understand why I've waited so long. The entire cast were fantastic.
The understudy Lola went on for Simon in the second act and he was very good. I do hope Simon is okay.

Most definitely. I'd still be glad to see Karen live. I can only comment on the audio but I'd always reserve full judgement until I've seen a live performance.

New Audio of Karen Mav singing And I Am Telling recently. Judging by this audio she has really got the hang of being Effie. Pleasantly surprised by her originality and it's her own rendition of it now! I feel like Karen holds some notes a bit too long. Also didn't really hear any emotion in what should be a very emotional song.

I've posted this in the Grease thread already but feel like it needs to be posted here. When I saw the tour of Grease in Bristol the audience felt the need to sing over the top of the performers. Below is a clip of the audience basically having a sing off with Danielle Hope during hopelessly devoted to you. I think this is very disrespectful to the performer and the rest of the audience, but at this particular performance, I was in the minority.

When I saw the tour in Bristol the audience were TERRIBLE. Here is a recording of Danielle trying to sing hopelessly devoted to you. The audience were trying to have a sing off with her.

I feel like "the heat is on" choreography was very different on tour from when I saw this in London. Can anyone confirm the choreography has changed?

Just seen the video of the cast singing on Strictly. I was convinced twice was enough to see Dreamgirls but I need to see the new cast. Marisha sounds good, sloppy riffs but over all very good, but Brennyn sounds amazing.

You've just answered your own query. Ruth doesn't know how to control her voice. If I was a producer of this show I would definitely choose someone with control over their own vocals over someone with very little control. I think Karen sounds quite good but I haven't heard Ruth sing a full song without losing the timing or control of her vocals.

I wasn't that impressed with the audio of Moya's first AIATY. The first minute where she was going into her head voice didn't sound right. I can't describe it any better than that. Apart from that she just reminded me of Marisha. I think I just prefer Amber's slightly cleaner vocals.

I love how people can write performers off as not being good enough before they've even watched them. I haven't written anyone off. I just don't think she sounds great here. Basing my opinion on her vocal alone, Amy doesn't sound great, but a full live performance can change opinions.

The orchestra don't sound great at the start of the defying gravity audio. Amy sounds more like she should be Glinda. One of the weakest vocals I have heard.

Heard Aimee's first defying gravity on YouTube. She doesn't bad at all and should improve with time. Was anyone there last night?

The touring cast are clearly not super fans and don't think Alice adding a new riff in is cause for a standing ovation. Not every show and certainly not every performance needs a standing ovation.

Where's Katie Rowley-Jones when you need her? i will never forget how quick she came out the stage door and disappeared into a taxi after Sister act. That was probably one of the last times I visited the stage door.

I would just like to know what the super fans get out of stage dooring night after night? Of course the cast are going to be nice and seem appreciative of the support - but if it was me and I came out of the stage door to someone I hadn't met before and a super fan who I have met numerous times, I would be more interested in giving my time to the person I hadn't met before.
The over the top laughing and applause for a joke or a riff you have heard, many, many times is attention seeking. That's all it is. You want the performer to know you enjoyed their delivery of a line so you can then go to the stage door and bring that up in conversation with them. Trying to force a friendship with a cast member is just weird for everyone involved.
Please note, my post is my own opinion and is not directed at anyone because I have no idea who does and does not visit the stage door.

The wigs, costumes and set all look like they are from different shows, thrown together for this production. It doesn't work well, just looks cheap and tacky. Not at all Elle Woods. The cast seem great though.

Seen this on Tuesday evening. Had tickets for the back of the upper circle but was moved to the front of the circle, as they closed the upper circle. I didn't notice too many changes to the production but thought it was a very good touring production. My friend who hadn't seen the show looked over at me in shock after Kim's nightmare.
Overall the cast were very good:
Sooha was very good as Kim, however her accent is quite thick and her voice is not as powerful as Eva's. I sometimes felt she had no connection with the lyrics she was singing as she did sound a bit emotionless at times, but she was still very good.
Ashley was probably the best Chris out of the three I have seen.
After reading a few comments on here about Zoe, I was expecting to be disappointed with her performance but I thought she was a much better Ellen than Tamsin or Carolyn.
I much preferred Red as the Engineer over Jon Jon. That said, the Engineer is not my favourite character, but overall I felt Red gave a more rounded performance.
Gerald Santos was fine as Thuy, a little wooden but he did the job.
Ryan O'Gorman was a very good John. Really enjoyed his performance. It was nice hearing Bui Doi without all those crazy riffs.
Na Young Jeon was quite good as Gigi, although her voice cracked slightly in the movie in my mind.

A full audio recording of this has appeared on youtube. I'm quite sad I didn't get to see Miranda Hart now. Madeleine is Annie in the recording and it was PAINFUL listening to her singing 'Tomorrow.' She is going to destroy her voice singing like that.

I just watched a few youtube videos of Ruth and quickly noticed she has so many bad, so many bad, so many bad, so many bad, so many bad habits (Hopefully someone gets that terrible joke after watching the video below). Girl has also got some pretty serious timing issues. It is a shame that she riffs so much, because when she strips it back her voice is actually gorgeous.

I really like the poster, but Alice's eyes don't look how they normally do. It looks like one eye is away to the shop and the other is coming back with the change.

Does Amber normally do the Wednesday evening performance, or is it Marisha or Karen?

Didn't fancy this or think it would be for me but was worth it to see Karen Mav move me to floods of tears at the end of the first act..... The whole show not a patch on 42nd Street for showmanship or precision although the lighting sequences and usage were brilliant. Some good voices but the diction was poor in first act - but worth it for that one moment at the end of Act 1 - enjoy That was much better than I expected. Karen does have a few weak moments where she doesn't support her vocals but I actually think she has a nicer voice than Marisha.
