I really liked it. IMHO Andre de Shields needs to step it up a bit. Trying to figure how to do spoilers. Wait. He’s listed in credits as Hermès so he’s a god FFS. I think part of the issues with the Orpheus character is that, in the legend, he is the weakest link. {Spoiler - click to view} And that la di da tune for the one who woke the gods love was lame Also in regards to the comparison to Sammy Davis Jr, his stage presence could only be overtaken by Frank Sinatra, when they were on the same stage. No comparison to this

How horrible!! I can't even imagine how they feel
Guess I'd better start trying to get my money back for that very expensive pit seat in Boston. The fates are conspiring to keep Andrew and I apart......

Saw today and her co-star had much more of a presence than she did. Was surprised that most of the audience was older than my 63.

On a more cheerful note. Going to Hamilton. Any recommendations for not too expensive place near there for early bite and a glass?

I really really don't like Ted Cruz. Whenever I see his name it makes me think that it should be Ted Cruise but he got confused by all the vowels and gave up. Is there a UK version of “creep factor”? I’ve tried to explain this to my male friends and they don’t get it. Whenever I see pic of Cruz my Creep Meter goes off the scale

Just came back from seeing this and I enjoyed it. I just relaxed and went with it. It was fun. I love 1950's sci-fi and Japanese monster movies so disconnecting from reality and not noticing the plot holes as I trip over them is easy for me. It was a fun ride

Yup. I really really don't like Ted Cruz. I haven't met anybody outside of Texas that does. That would be amazing if that weasel got kicked to the curb

I knew it was probably a bad idea to book this after a red eye flight from the States but thought I could handle it, Nope. I kept nodding off and pinching myself to stay awake. I ended up leaving at interval. I was disappointed at what I did see, especially Lady Macbeth. Just rushing around without conveying that you actually had some intellegent thought behind it just didn’t work

I got notified that my mail in ballot has been received to the voting office back in the US. Now it's time to wait for November 6th to see if the truly awful senator from my state gets voted out. Are you from Texas?

I almost feel guilty posting that it was a good day. My last day of work before vacation (work remotely) and the office email wasn't working and didn't get working until I logged off for vacation!!!
Another hour and I can check into my flight for Gatwick and I swear it doesn't even feel real. I was able to use all the overtime I've worked lately as comp time so that is 4 days less of vacation I will have to use. Will make sure that I walk my granddaughter to bus stop tomorrow morning and give her big kisses and hugs. She wants to make sure I bring her Peppa Pig something from London.
These new knees better be prepared for all the walking I plan on doing!!

Have been wearing coat at work on and off for several weeks, have moved into a different office, the heating doesn't work, it gets no sun and is battle ship grey to add to the cheery feel, one day I even wore my woolly hat. Heating has broken at home, gas man ain't coming until a week on Thursday. My mother has pointed out I will burn my calories shivering!\ You could tell your mother that it also means, if she makes anymore of those kind of cracks, that the cold will preserve her body long enough for you to spend all of her money and come up with a good alibi.

Not about the play but I just noticed that the Lord Mayor's fireworks are going to be going off on my 2 play day of Oct 10th. If I'm reading it right it should be starting between shows. Does anyone know if I'd be close enough to be able to see some of them and get back to theatre by 7pm for 7:15 play?
Thank you !

Had a very productive day I'm now ready for Armistice Day. Got 1st time slot for Churchill War Rooms (I know wrong war) and then will tour IWM. Then tickets to see Bury the Dead at Finborough Theatre matinee. From comments I've read here I'd better go to loo before going to this little place. Then off to the Tower for the Beyond the Deepening Shadow and watch the lighting of the flames.
Plus got my packing done for London trip. 8.5 kg in a carry on. Pretty good for 24 days. Thank goodness my lodgings have washer/dryer. Just have my computer bag that I can't pack until Friday morning and it will be very light.

Just heard that 93 year old physically frail but mentally still very much with-it father-in-law has had a fall and broken his hip so is currently undergoing surgery, which is rather worrying. On a lighter note, we had a goshawk land on the fence outside our living room window a few moments ago, which was fabulous. My frail 91 year old father broke his hip a couple of months ago. He was lucky that it broke where they could fix it by hip replacement. He still uses a walker but he should have been using one all along. It took him quite awhile to get all the meds out of his system but he is so much better now. And with the walker he gets around better than he did before the fall. Best of luck to you and yours.

The Wild Duck at the Almeida on the Friday or Tuesday evening? A great director, lovely intimate theatre and just about to start previews. White Teeth at the Kiln theatre might be good and would fit those times too. Oh! That reminds me I want to book this.

I had to stop my drinking game that went with "famous people you've seen in the audience" thread. Take a drink whenever I didn't recognize a name. Kept getting too sloshed as I didn't know hardly anyone. But I've known of LuPone forever

Sheriebythesea You are amazing and I recently did a 24 day 35 show visit. Most of the time I get tickets when in London, except with National shows and Royal Court. Tickets in advance like you did are possible, but I hope you got some good discounts. I live in N.Y.C. and travel to London twice a year lately. 35 shows?!?!?! Now that is amazing. Thanks to this forum I got some very nice discounts. This will only be my 2nd trip to London / UK and have fallen in love with it. I live in Rhode Island so only 3 hours from NYC but it is so expensive, money and time wise, just to see matinee on Broadway. I’ve lived here 5 years and have only seen 2 shows there. We get the touring companies in Providence and most of the productions are great

‘Dark’, ‘Weird’, ‘Mental’, potentially offensive. The sort of comments that are more likely to have me looking forward to it, to be honest. Sounds even more interesting........

2 weeks from today and I start my second London adventure. 23 nights. I'll arrive Saturday morning and then it's off and running. I won't have the knee pain I had on my visit last year because I have NEW knees! And I plan on getting my moneys worth out of them. I have tickets to: Macbeth (RSC) The Trench (Southwark) A Very, Very, Very Dark Matter (The Bridge) You and I (Hampstead) Hamilton Company Something About Jamie King Lear Hadestown The Height of the Storm Bat out of Hell 42nd Street Romeo & Juliet (RSC) Pack of Lies The Inheritance (pts 1 & 2) Summer and Smoke War Horse Tina-The Musical Madness of King George (Nottingham) The Funeral Director (Southwark) Don Quixote Measure for Measure And I still have a few spots open that I can book something on the spur. And room to do my sight seeing. Also spending 2 days in York. The past year has been spent making the plans and getting the tickets. The planning made my knee surgery recovery go so much better. I've been so busy with work that I'm just now starting to breath a bit and the excitement has hit. Can't wait to be able to post on the "what I'm seeing this week" thread

I was on the fence about this one but guess I'd better get my ticket so I won't be kicking myself when it is a hit on Broadway and I won't be able to afford to see it then. Especially if anyone knew I had a chance to see it in London and didn't. So clicking a box for this. Because I'm shallow like that

Looking forward to this. Only 3 weeks from tomorrow until 23 nights in London. Actually 21 nights in London and 2 nights in Kent. Am beyond thrilled. My family wonders how I can be so organized for my trip but yet have a hard time navigating from one day to the next.

The 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredrick March still works as a tear jerker. And you don't have to put up with those annoying "Oh look, it's a real concert" scenes. But Kris Kristofferson was at his oh so doable best in the 1976 version.
