So for a "witch switch" happening pretty seamlessly, does that mean the standby is ready every performance, greened up ready to go? No, usually the principle Elphaba will tell the stage manager they’re not going to be able to finish the show and they’ll decide where the switch will be to give the standby enough time to get ready. Sometimes it’s after Popular, sometimes it’s during One Short Day, etc. It really just depends where the show is. The principle Elphaba will push through until the standby is ready to go then they’ll switch out. Getting a standby ready for a show can take up to ten minutes in an emergency situation. I’d highly recommend reading Unnaturally Green by Felicia Ricci, it’s her account of being an Elphaba standby. It goes into great detail about the casting and rehearsal process and then what it’s like to actually be a standby and be called up in the middle of a performance.

Could Idina Menzel be doing the London dates of Anything Goes? She just posted a pretty cryptic picture about doing something in London, and that the answer was in the picture. The background looks similar to the Anything Goes set!

I’m confused - is the cast that’s been announced ONLY the London cast? The tour cast are still to be confirmed?

I can’t believe you lot guessed half the cast based on a small teaser! I’m surprised you guys haven’t figured out who killed Jon Benet Ramsey with those detective skills! You’re an amazing bunch.
I’m enjoying Keala’s stay in the UK but I feel like the roles she’s taking aren’t quite up to her talents. I really hope she gets a leading role worthy of that insane voice.

I agree but the majority of non professional productions have cast white performers in the role. The rights holders won't permit any changes to the lyrics or the dialogue. I strongly believe that if you can't cast the role appropriately, then you should choose another show. But many amateur groups have taken the decision to just go for it. There was a very well known amateur group in Glasgow that did a black face Delores and it makes me cringe every single time I see the show in their marketing for past shows.

I’m surprised that anyone who’s read the book wouldn’t think there was queer subtext between the two main characters. Especially since virtually every character is queer in one way or another.

I wouldn’t see the show if Marisha was Delores. The two shows I’ve seen her in left me feeling underwhelmed by her acting. Her singing was obviously incredible but the acting was a completely different story.

Excellent. I had plans to see it in Inverness on the 5th… urgh. Yes, it's frustrating. I received an email from Eden Court this morning, as I'd booked tickets as a Christmas present for my mum. I had wondered if this was going to happen though, as I checked the website last week and it hadn't sold well. I never even checked the other days but I was planning on seeing it on the Tuesday and it sold relatively well. It’s going to Glasgow the following week so we’re going to try and catch it then as we’re only in Fort William, although we DID check how well it’s selling there and it’s not ideal so good knows if I’ll even get to see it in Glasgow.

Waitress UK tour have cancelled their Inverness dates, 5th-9th April. I suspect due to ticket sales. Excellent. I had plans to see it in Inverness on the 5th… urgh.

I truly, truly cannot see it being Gemma Collins and sincerely hope it isn’t. If she is cast then shame on the producers for signing it off. It’s well known by those who work with her that her erratic behaviour and mood swings are caused by something quite serious and putting her on stage eight times a week and under that amount of pressure is just cruel. She will not cope and it she was crack and the world will enjoy watching it.

Was she in the filmed version? Perhaps that’s why it never been released..? No, I believe it was Isabelle McCalla.

Have to share my experience.
I was in Inverness yesterday getting some bits and only planning to stay a few hours before driving back to my little Scottish town. My partner and I went into a lovely bar called Scotch & Rye (highly recommend if anyone finds themselves in Inverness) and at the table next to me was Stephen Webb!
I say hello, that I’m a big fan of musical theatre and that I’ve seen him in a few things over the years. He asks if I’m going to see Rocky Horror at Eden Court and I tell that I contemplated it but all the good seats were gone so was just planning on heading home after shopping. I said that funnily enough we did have tickets to see the show in York but because of me starting a new job as a restaurant manager and not having enough staff to run the place properly I wasn’t able to take a few days off to go see it so we exchanged our tickets for a credit note which we used to buy tickets for The Cher Show, which stars Stephen’s girlfriend Danielle.
He tells me that he will sort some house seats out for the show that night for me and my partner completely free of charge! He took my number and about an hour later messages to say I have two tickets under his name at the box office!
We throughly enjoyed the show as it was my partners first time seeing it. I genuinely couldn’t believe that someone would do something so nice for a complete stranger! Absolutely fantastic guy.

My dream casting for London would potentially be Mary J Blige or Queen Latifah as Deloris and Snoop Dogg or Harvey Keitel as Curtis Shank Jnr Latifah has zero interest in doing theatre, sadly. That’s a shame as she’d be one of the few names I’d actually want to see.

I'm poised to request a refund when casting announced. The original pricing (more than) reflected the star name. Leeds Grand just announced new dates so hopefully some casting news will be announced soon!

My point still stands even with Vanessa Kirby playing Josephine. She’s 14 years younger than Phoenix but her character is six years older than Phoenix’s character.

Cynthia and Harry just do not look like they go together. She looks way more than 7 years older than him. You're not a fan then? In every Hollywood movie, the guy is always years older the girl, sometimes creepily so. Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones comes to mind. Also, in the stage version at least, that Green make up makes every Elphaba look amazing and the screen version wont be any different. The worst age difference example I can think of is the upcoming Napoleon biopic with Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon, aged 47, and Jodie Comer as Josephine, aged 28, despite Josephine being six years OLDER than Napoleon in real life.

Harry wouldn’t want to do this, would he? Isn’t it a bit of a thankless role? He very nearly took Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid which is another thankless role so maybe?

The older I get the more I have a deep appreciation for the movie. It’s easily the best Lloyd Webber movie musical and Madonna is actually fantastic in it.

Hi when do you think more cast for wicked movie will be announced 🧙♀️💚🧹I’m so excited for this movie!! Can’t wait to hear Cynthia as Elphaba! Production is due to start this summer so I’d imagine we won’t have to wait too much longer.

It’s insane that Lucie has been auditioning for Elphaba for years and years and now that she’s finally playing the role she’s getting fantastic reviews. What were the casting people thinking?!

Is he too old to play the Wizard in the Wicked movie?
Because I’d love to see him in that role.

So is this actually a good musical? It bombed in NYC.. I like some of the songs but it doesn’t blow me away. Interested to hear that everyone is wetting themselves over this concert. My guess- it’s going to be doing a run at the Menier.. Reaching for the stars then! 😶 Apparently it was selling well in NYC when it closed and that producers were spooked by the rotten reviews it got which are said to have been because anything Wildhorn does is automatically panned. Other than that it was doing well.

Enjoyed this tonight. Managed to pick up a front row rush ticket this morning, pretty central (well actually it was Row B and it turned out there was an extra fragmented row in front with only a few chairs and only one taken, the gaps I presume intended as wheelchair spaces, but I had no one in front and a clear view level with the stage). Louis Smith was away, so the role of Cameron was played by Oliver Adam-Reynolds. He was on stage a lot in different roles, so based on what I've read I presume he was doing an ensemble role as well as Cameron. Kenedy Small was on as cover Bridget and was excellent. For me, the highlights were Vanessa Fisher as Danielle and Chloe Pole as Skylar. Fab to see Marvyn Charles, one of my Jamie cast favourites, rapping and showing off his dance moves (and his many tattoos) as well. This is very much a high energy performance, with a young athletic cast, lots of flipping around and men throwing the women in the air. It uses the large stage in the Queen Elizabeth Hall well. I saw the Australian premier a few years ago and also the non-professional production at the Southwark Playhouse. In terms of dance and vocal quality, this was very good. I'm still not completely convinced it is a particularly good musical (and I normally like teen high school musicals), but it really comes alive with the LMM numbers. The theatre wasn't too full and the audience was rather spaced out. Some did move forward during the interval. This one is quite pricey and it's a short show (all done by 9:50pm with a long interview). Rush tickets are good value, but I guess most people don't know about them. This is one of those theatres where my Covid pass was checked, but the ticket wasn't, but at least the people around me were wearing masks. Don't know if I'll be inspired enough to see this in London again (even though I missed seeing Louis Smith), but it is touring for quite a while so I may catch this down the line. I saw the Australian tour too! Saw it in Sydney. I absolutely loved it at the time but thinking back there was a lot wrong with it. I’m really looking forward to seeing this tour when it comes to Aberdeen.

There is very little Spanish in the film. No more, for instance, than there is German in a World War II film, in which you hear German soldiers and officers speaking German. The Spanish is there mainly for dramatic effect. It is there to highlight a sense of alienation in the Puerto Rican community. It's used mostly in scenes of strong disagreement or violence in which the body language and pitch of voices are more eloquent than the meaning of the words themselves. Anybody can easily recognise anger, or love, or fear, - be it in Swedish, Japanese or Greek. Actually, in real life, my experience is precisely the opposite, when people are angry - or the very opposite of it - they suddenly become very fluent in the language they daily struggle to communicate in, as if to be 100% sure the receiving end understands very well what they mean to say. I agree although I found it interesting that Maria, Anita and to an extent Chino spoke a lot more English compared to the Sharks. Actually did Valentina speak any Spanish, I know she did in one scene to help Tony but not sure if she spoke to anyone else. She briefly spoke to Anita in Spanish when she saved her from the Jets.
