Finally getting to visit London from Scotland in September if all goes well. Other than seeing some shows we haven’t got much planned but I’d like to do some things that aren’t your typical tourist haunts.
Can anyone recommend any unique restaurants to eat at, interesting things to see or do, etc.
Also looking for suggestions to have pre-theatre dinner.
Much appreciated!

I have no inside information but it is cheap to put on (small cast/band/crew) and hugely popular so I can't imagine it won't find a home. Exactly what I thought! I assume once everything is a bit more settled a new home with be announced but it’s a bummer that performances are stopping just as theatre is starting back up again.

Is the show closing in August completely, or is it moving to a new home? Finally getting down to London in September and would love to see it.

...if she wasn’t happily settled in L.A. I’m sure she’ll go where the work is. Never even thought of Siobhan Dillon but she’d be a fantastic Jenna!

It's been announced that the Broadway production of this won't reopen after the lockdown. I suppose it's also likely the London production will be delayed? I did read that the Broadway production closed so other productions of the show could utilise the sets and costumes and save money. So there’s still a small hope that it’ll go ahead as normal.

Yes, I’m looking forward to Suzanne Shaw’s SUTBM a great deal. 😂 I heard it was Kym Marsh... Didn’t people on this board also say they’d heard it was Charity Dingle playing Jenna in the West End? I’ll wait for a casting announcement.

Amber is confirmed. Also to star Louis Smith. Louis Smith is a really odd choice for a musical but I’ve seen just seen he’s playing Cameron which is a relatively small role. No doubt we’ll see him jumping all over the stage doing what he does best. Amber will be great. She played the same role during her time at Urdang.

So own your comment and explain it, rather than lobbing hand grenades into what is an otherwise civilised thread. Civilised? Lol. Don’t ever talk on behalf of another person.

Slightly off-topic but I'm really tickled by the thought of this visiting the normally safe, staid Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford - where of course it has sold out, not due to the venue but the show. The theatre won't know what has hit it and I'd love to see it thronged, for once, with a lively crowd of all ages; panto season is the only other time when the typcial audience varies and then it's more family-focused. The YA really needs to attract a more diverse audience so I hope this helps - though they will need more productions of the type likely to have that appeal if they are to build on it. They have recently revamped the membership scheme but it's still very old-fashioned and now costs twice as much for fewer benefits, so that won't help. Wonder if the show is having a galvanising effect at other tour locations?

Could you elaborate on it then? Well I’m glad someone asked... The Queens constant seem to play the roles as if they exclusively listen to gangster rap. Their body language seems to suggest they are inspired by RnB entirely. I’d have hoped for some sort of different characters since their audition calls for originality and uniqueness - yet every version of the characters seems to be the exact same.

I assumed everyone was on the same page with Whoopi in Sister Act. No one is expecting her to be good or to be convincing. It’s just going to be a once in a life time opportunity. It’s like if Patti decided to play Evita one more time. Maybe a better comparison would be Gloria Swanson reprising her role as Norma Desmond in the recording of the proposed musical Boulevard!. Iconic actress recreating iconic role in a musical. Get the CD of Boulevard! and see how well that worked out.... Where Bette and Joe had a happy ending once Norma gave them her blessing!? That’s another thing I’d pay to see! It’s a shame that never went anyway, nor did Sondhiem’s version. But yes, I understand that’s maybe a better comparison.

It’s like if Patti decided to play Evita one more time. Well I’m not on that page. however I’m not going to see it so I’ll stick with Brenda Edwards who I expect to be both good AND convincing. I look forward to referencing this travesty the next time someone wholly unsuitable gets cast for a musical by Bill Kenwright 🙂 I’ll hopefully catch Brenda when the show comes through Manchester or Glasgow. Thoroughly looking forward to seeing what she does with the role. As excited as I am to see Whoopi in the role I think Brenda deserves better than being demoted to alternate during the strange train wreck. I also feel bad for the tour’s Mother Superior, I assume Jennifer Saunders won’t be doing the tour, who will probably not have a role at all in the London run.

I think they mean that none of the Queens are girly pretty or sweetly singing a drippy ballad....like in a 1950’s musical. No victims here. You think wrong.

If the show wanted to star cast I wouldn’t be mad with Joel Dommett as Corny Collins.

Managed to book the only tickets left availed - the very last row of the balcony. Urgh. At least I’ll be in the room!

What!? That’s such an invalid argument. It’s their job, they’re being paid to be at the theatre while audience members are paying good money to attend. If they want to get up and leave whenever they want then they’re perfectly entitled to. I truly do cringe when I see posts like this. People in the industry really need to get their head’s out of their backsides and stop pretending they’re doing life changing work and they certainly don’t need to be “thanked” for doing a job they’re getting money for. Jesus.

Strange choice for a musical. Then again there’s a Schindler’s List: The Musical...

It's been announced that Cynthia is due to play Aritha Franklin in a film about her life. No, she’s due to play Aretha in Season Three of National Geographic’s GENIUS. The first season was about the life of Albert Einstein starring Geoffrey Rush, the second season was about Pablo Picasso starring Antonio Banderas and the third season will focus on Aretha Franklin starring Cynthia Erivo.

Sheridan would be a decent Kit but she’s no Vivianne. I doubt she’d ever do a supporting role however.
