I saw this last night after seeing the production during its original run at the Open Air Theatre. I thought it was phenomenal then but was even better last night. Ricardo Afonso was a particular highlight, his Judas was perfect and that voice, wow!! Enjoyed Robert Tripolino's Jesus; I think he just about go away with his take on Gesthemane, it came accross as a bit chaotic but it worked. I liked the way he seemed to be playing it with a particular arrogance at the beggining, that he really beleived the hype around him. Sallay Garnett I found a bit hit and miss, thought she was better in the second act, always nice hearing a different spin on very familiar songs though. The rest of the cast were superb too, Cavin Cornwall and Nathan Amzi were really watchable with amazing voices. Matt Cardle also great and another breath of fresh air.
The production as a whole is just so so good. I loved the choreography even more than I did originally, they were very tight.
I sat through it wishing this cast would be immortalised on a cast recording but doubt we'd get that.
I really think, if you're thinking of going, just book. It will not dissapoint.
Great night out.

Still nothing on this casting wise which does seem a little strange but don't think we can be too far off now. They had casting call backs mid June ish. Very intruiged by what this tour will be like. I do miss the show at the Dominion.

As Pharaoh's Story comes to it's peak and normally the Narrator belts out "a star" over the chorus repeating "strange as it seems" (usually a total goose bumps moment) - Sheridan stops singing, asks the kids to do the robot and then leads the kids along the front of the stage doing the Peter Crouch robot dance as the adult chorus take over. And that kind of sums things up! WTF? This really happens??Whats the robot got to do with anything? Apart from covering up the fact that you can't sing.... Thats exactely why i'm not seeing this version. I wonder if the understudy has to do the same? Yeah. I'm out.

Wow. That was a really tough read and definitley brave.
Surely the YV or someone involved has to make a statement on this? Hopefully this gains traction too.

This thread is making me so torn. Love the show and I love the sound of the new orchestrations. Not so keen on a narrator seriously hamming it up and then not even belting/keys being lowered etc. It's not an anti Sheridan thing but equally not sure I want to go see 'The Sheridan Show'. Loved Jenna Lee James as the Narrator at the Adelphi. Some of my favourite bits are sung by the Narrator and they seem to be lines that have been specifically picked up on as not being sung the 'normal' way. D'oh!

There's a good one about Mary Poppins during its original West End run. There was a lengthy show stop that went on so long that the show would have ended past the legal working time for the two kids playing Jane and Michael, so they sent on the shortest adults in the cast for the last few scenes in the show!

A bit controversial, I suspect the very high note at the end of Defying Gravity, Wicked is pre-recorded. It would not be healthy/safe to sing that very high note eight times a week. It's not pre-recorded. In fact there's a long list of people that have played Elphaba and it's wrecked their voice for a while. Same happened to a few that played Scaramouche in We Will Rock You.

Sound design is not my thing at all.Any tech experts on the board able to explain why there may be such big sound issues in a stadium setting for the Spice Girls? The main element is that none of the stadia they are playing in are designed primarily or around having anything other than sporting events held in them. It's not just been an issue for The Spice Girls, numerous tours have suffered with it. The problem is, is how you balance it out. You'll notice if you've ever been to a concert in a stadium that there are often towers of speakers towards the 'back' of the pitch. These are referred to as 'delays' and is designed to offset the delay of what you're seeing happen on stage/on a screen and the sound reaching the back of the stadium.
I'd be interested to see a concert at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as I beleive that's been designed from scratch to be fanatasitc for concert accoustics as well as sporting events.
It's a really difficult thing to get right and it really has to do with where you're sitting/standing. Even the Royal Albert Hall really suffered until they put the 'mushrooms' in the roof and even now the sound there isn't great a lot of the time.
Hope this explains a bit? Sorry for the ramble.

Surprised only one brief mention on Mary Poppins. For me that's one of the best. The production values in that (both touring and west end) are fantastic. I do love the Lion King a lot, but I'm not sure if it's more the score I appreciate than the stage show itself.

Mark - Rent Galileo - We Will Rock You (getting to sing queen songs every night with a talented band and every so often with Brian May!!!) Judas - Jesus Christ Superstar Sam - Ghost
These are all part of my shower repertoire.
Also, Elphaba. Ahem.

I've worked for ATG on quite a few occasions in a number of roles over the years and have always found them a brilliant company to work for. This was always during the Panter and Squire years, so I can't speak for the company now they're not on board. They also paid well.
For those interested in getting into theatre producing or similar they offer a very good paid internship and a paid graduate one too. Definitely worth looking into. If you'd like more info but don't feel comfortable posting it on here feel free to private message me.

Guessing this is likely to be eying a limited run in the West End. You'd have thought so. Always does well. The last production of it I saw was the production at the Savoy with Henry Goodman. He was fantastic.

This is interesting! I do love me a bit of Fiddler on the Roof. Not sure how I'm feeling about Omid's casting, but I'm sure he can pull it off. Will definitely be looking at booking this.
For the record, I don't find it dated etc. I agree with the comments on it being relevant and I do love the score.

So there's always hope that they could return there for Junkyard, the Theatr Clwyd musical offerings this spring. This is true! Northerners reading this I encourage you to cross the border to see the goings on at Clwyd this spring! The lighting will be good for Junkyard. ;-)

Just to amuse the board members who helped so much with their experiences of booking for this: someone just emailed me to say that they read the resulting blog, and it worked for them... ... so well, that they used identical tactics yesterday to get "Lady Gaga" tickets at the O2 Arena. Apparently it worked equally brilliantly. So, give ourselves a round of applause for finding a way to beat both touts and "the system," I think. I too did the same this morning to acquire Gaga tickets.

All of the above is the realistic and sensible approach surely? you can avoid much of it if you try- mute/unfollow accounts, don't read reviews etc etc. I mean if I were THAT concerned about spoilers (occasionally have been for TV rather than theatre) it is possible to remove yourself from the relevant social media (as Baemax said above) and just not see. If it's that important to you, it is possible to live without social media until you see the thing. But equally, over a year since the show opened, with the kind of profile it has, it's unreasonable to think people aren't going to be talking in detail. Personally I'd heard the music once or twice but didn't know anything about the style/staging. I love seeing a show 'unspoiled' at times but I think it's unreasonable to ask the whole world to refrain from talking about it for me, if it matters to me, I should be responsible. And anyway, there's a tiny matter of the issue in question being a matter of historical record. Y'know like watching Titanic the musical and complaining you knew it sank at the end. Agreed. I watch Grey's Anatomy but like to wait until it's on in the UK but as the US is often ahead, I've muted, unfollowed, etc relevant accounts/sites. It actually isn't hard. With Hamilton I've also avoided reading/watching any articles or videos on it as visually I want it to be a surprise too.

I've listened to the cast recording a few times and the mixtape once. I'm not going to listen to either again until I've seen it, around a year from now.

No, it shouldn't be changed, it's fine as it is. There's a large contingent of people who understand that "soundtrack" is technically wrong in this context but, as language evolves, it is nonetheless acceptable use, and I think the joke is at the expense of the people who feel quite strongly that as a cast recording is *not* the same as a soundtrack, the term "soundtrack" really shouldn't be used in place of "cast recording". I'm one of these people haha. We also had a couple of good threads going on the subject of cast recordings here, in case you were interested : www.theatreboard.co.uk/thread/216/collectors-items-cds-etcwww.theatreboard.co.uk/thread/346/cast-recordings-collections

I don't think they *need* a name for King George, but I've been saying for months I reckon they'll get one anyway. Not a Chicago-style celeb who is cast purely for their star factor and not for their ability, they'll get someone who's thoroughly capable of doing a good job, but they will be at the very least well-known to regular theatre-goers, and possibly even an actual household name. What's John Barrowman up to?

Fantastic article @theatremonkey. However isn't the limit 6 tickets and not 4 for the general sale? Just something I noticed in the article where it says:
'Do remember that while in line, people can only book 4 tickets, and most will only want 1 or 2, so there will be plenty left when you get to the front – so relax a little…'

Which would you remove? I think the only one I'm surprised at is the screenplay one. I'd remove screenplay, sound mixing and sound editing. The sound in the first song was awful. Think I can agree with that. I did find the vocals a bit low in the mix a lot.

The call went out as you posted it? Including the green underlined grammar errors AND the green underlining? Very amateurish. It was shared by a well known casting director on Facebook. It appeared on my timeline from this person so no idea if it was posted elsewhere in that format or just to his facebook friends.

Open auditions for Tracy Turnblad. Wonder what they're filming? Unless it's just for Promo but rare to have the audition stage filmed.
