This is the sort of thing London needs at the moment. I can see this going down well with london audiences - loved it when I saw it on Broadway. I've said it before but I'd love to see Cassidy Janson play Jenna. I think it would sit well in the Gielgud or the Aldwych.

When glow stick-gate happened all I could think about was how it would be discussed on this thread.... I can't get over the SPEED of the ushers. It was just so uncomfortable.
Considering I really wasn't looking forward to the show tonight, it turned out to be one of my favourite shows of the 56 I've seen.
Suzie stole the show for me - her voice is absolutely flawless and her acting choices are so unique, just when you think you've heard a line a million times, she delivers it differently and it takes you by surprise.
Willemijn is SUCH a class act. She didn't do many riffs but she didn't need to. Her performance is so refined and classy. I think the producers worldwide will struggle to find someone who can deliver the role like that ever again. Absolutely classy from start to finish with everything she did.
Loved Sarah McNicholas - she has really grown into the role and I really enjoyed her performance. However I didn't like how pantomime Sue Kelvin decided to play it tonight. What was that about?! She peaked on her mic at least 3 times....

I was just thinking about Carina and how she's been off so much. Doesn't bode well when she's heading straight into another contract...

I've never seen an Elphaba quite like Idina. The comments on the previous page say it all "I've never seen her live" - everyone that did see her live is unanimous about the fact that her performance was in a league of its own.
Sat on my sofa, 2 hours before curtain up, I am the least excited I've ever been about a cast change. I think because Willemijn is so incredible every time, surely she won't be able to go much better? Hope there aren't too many riffs.

I have my ticket....and I will be arriving at 7.20 and leaving as soon as the curtain comes down. Being front row or meeting Willemijn will not add anything to my experience. Fair play to them though, if they want to waste 3 days of their life, that's their choice. Weather is supposed to be nice too!! Sort of jealous they get to spend the day outside in the sun rather than at work....

I'd love to see a pic of Elphaba in the INTG costume. Something about the vulnerability in that scene that could make for a really lovely contrast with the promo pics.

Melanie took the win with her fierceness. Amazing. Liked the Sophie pics but think Alice's shots could've done with looking darker, more emotive and (dare I say it) More professional??

Have heard a couple of songs on EP. Anyonew think the lead guy sounds like Aaron Tveit? Not overly. Ben has a similar smooth, silky timbre to Aaron Tveit but their tones are quite different IMO. I think if this show comes over to the UK I would like to see the book rewritten. The book seriously leaves a lot to be desired - considering how great the songs are, the book seeeeeriously isnt of the same standard. Most of it feels like they are just saying words in between the songs.

Hmm for me I'm really hoping this new cast will bring back the love I felt around 2012, when Hayley and Lucy were standing by.
The peak of my obsession / love for the show was 07-09 but around the time of cast change 2012 I developed a different kind of enjoyment for the show.
I'm hoping that a few fresh faces (even the people who are disappointed by this casting cannot deny that there are a few fresh faces) will give it the refresh it needs.
I'm going on Saturday, and will head again in a month or so to see the new cast once they've settled in.
This show IS still as magical as it once was - and I can't wait to see it again actually, having not been since the start of Willemijn's run. In a strange way, it feels like I'm going home to see my family for the first time in months. You know what to expect, what's going to happen, everything will be the same but you still can't wait.

Only live 10 mins from RAH and free on Friday afternoons, have no doubt I'd love this but still holding out for a full cast list before booking for some reason.

Cast sounds pretty good - not sure I love the dancing though! Hair runs the risk of looking twee and inauthentic if there is too much synchronisation.

Can I please bring up the fact that Joseph Fletcher is in the ensemble and is deaf?! It's amazing a show of this stature includes people with disabilities such as this, especially in a musical. No I'm not a fan boy, I've never seen the show in London, only the UK Tour Love this. He's so talented and SO lovely too. Met him a couple of years ago through a friend and took me ages to twig that he was in Wicked.

Hey collinsk - could you elaborate on that? As far as I was aware she was doing well, thanks to her planned show(s) off each week. Everything I have heard of hers sounded strong. I personally liked her Elphaba and thought, from the sounds of things, she was becoming stronger in the role.

I've heard its just the 5th cover midwife doing the top ten nose riffs of all time for west end live This. Super annoyed - I live in central London, 20 mins from Traf Sq and have been out of London at the same time as WEL every year since I've lived here! Typical!

Any word if this is coming to London in the Autumn? Thanks for any help you can provide Certainly nothing announced for this autumn. There were talks about it happening in the next year or so though for the anniversary.

As a classically trained singer, I can categorically confirm that that is not a thing. I've tried to sing through the DEH score and most of it sits on my break - Ben has an extensive and effortless top range. He doesn't need to shake his trapped nerve to hit a B flat 😂

Is it confirmed that Willemijn is going? Wouldn't be surprised if they sent Alice seeing as it's so close to her taking over..

Meh. Anyone else struggling to muster up any enthusiasm for 'Hamilton' at the moment? There'd better be a tap routine in it to make it worth watching. Yeah - haven't got a ticket, haven't tried, won't until the initial rush is over or if I win the lottery (if they're doing that here?). On the casting note. If you say to someone 'I'm going to see X musical' - most responses are the same. I would love to change the culture in which we live where the first response from most members of the public is 'who's in it?'

So it's hugely rare for a show to come round like this with so much buzz even before all the tickets have gone on sale - so a perfect opportunity not to stunt cast, and to give some unknowns an opportunity to smash it. Love it.

Interrupting all of your well thought out and well written posts to be silly and ask that if we're going to have a mental health musical that wont sell in London, can it at least be the really good one? Yes I know about the rights issue. BUT COME ON. I need to see this show live again. I'm with you snutte! In response to the other posts - I thought theatre was an opportunity to see other points of view, other stories, other people. How popular is Les Mis? It's been open for years - I'm gonna hazard a guess and say that most of the people in the audience have never been a peasant in the French Revolution.... I don't think success of a show is based on how relatable a character is. I do agree with Martello - it was the book that let DEH down. I love the score, I loved the cast (and I saw it without Ben!) - but I left feeling dissatisfied and like I needed more, and it wasn't until after I'd had a chance to reflect on it that I realised the book was lacklustre. I don't think it's do with the story / plot, it's to do with the actual words said between the songs. The exchanges between the characters didn't feel strong enough considering the weight of the story.

Saw the show Saturday matinee in NYC and Ben was out on vocal rest - having seen the show without Ben, I am a firm believer that with the right casting this show will do well in London even without Ben. It's not an easy sing and there certainly isn't any leads in London at the moment I can think of that could sing or act it - it needs someone phenomenal, a recent grad maybe, who can be discovered and propelled to stardom. No need for a TV show though!!!

Think that DEH rightly won best music and lyrics but personally thought the book was what let the show down.

Based on a 70-page portion of War & Peace in which Natasha (engaged to Andrey) has an affair with Anatole which leads to her ruin in society. Meanwhile, Pierre is going through existential depression and finds a reason to live in a moment of compassion with Natasha at the end. Significance of the plot? It's Tolstoy, there's a reason why War & Peace is still read by millions around the world. It's Tony worthy as not only is it excellently designed, it has a brilliant ensemble of a cast and the music and lyrics - although divisive - are groundbreaking, innovative, varied and unlike anything that's ever been on Broadway before. Like any other show that prides itself on being unconventional, it wont be for everyone, but I happen to think it's pretty much a masterpiece and it moved me more than any other show this season. And I greatly admire the courage to bring something like this to commercial, Broadway theatre. Thanks but my original post was sarcastic. I totally got the plot and the fact it is based on the 70-page portion of War and Peace - but didn't understand why that 70 pages. It felt like it could've gone on another hour or ended half an hour sooner and not made any difference to the story. There was no beginning, middle or end, the songs were forgettable, the size of the cast (albeit fantastic) felt unceccesary. Why have 9052892 ensemble members when the show is based around 4 or 5 main characters? The ensemble didn't add anything to the story (however they were incredibly talented and had infectious energy). Don't get me wrong I loved the production and the cast but I feel like the actual piece (ie book and music) wasn't as groundbreaking as the staging of it.

I just saw great comet. If someone could kindly explain to me exactly what happened, the significance of the plot and what makes the show Tony worthy (aside from the innovative staging) I would appreciate that. So many questions....
