For those keeping track, Lindsay Mendez has just joined the rare group of Idina Menzel, Kristin Cheoweth, Annaleigh Ashford, Megan Hilty and Stephanie J. Block as the few Wicked leading actresses to ever be nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Carousel. Based on word of mouth she is the likely winner too, leaving Stephanie the only one to be nominated but never win (though arguably she should of won for Falsettos depending who you ask).
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone else who's been nominated, but I believe thats it?

Though we should say Kristin should have double wins by now, if they hadn't given Kelli the Tony because she had never won when Kristin truly deserved it for On the Twentieth Century.

She seemed to have a problem with the "u" vowel, there were references to "speck-er-lation" and "rep-er-tation", but then was fine in "pop-U-lar" so I don't know why that was. That’ll be her Welsh accent - probably doesn’t realise she’s doing it when she’s speaking , or hasn’t been asked to change it because who’s to know the Upper Uplands are not in Wales? Nice review as always Martello!

Who would turn down a scheduled Elphaba show?

Who would turn down a scheduled Elphaba show? Wish I knew why, this is just what I was told. I don't think it'll be true and if it is, can I do her scheduled Elphaba show instead?

She may not get another chance.
Jennifer Tierney never got an Elphaba show and she was a cover.

I don't understand, do all understudies get a guaranteed show? typically no, but it can vary. Usually the 1st cover will get at least one scheduled, but it is rare for a 2nd or 3rd cover (in the case of the touring production) to get a scheduled show.

I don't understand, do all understudies get a guaranteed show? If a cast member stays for two contracts and aren't first cover for the role, they're offered a scheduled show as a courtesy. Very occasionally they'll give someone a scheduled show in their first year (Lauren James Ray got one as Glinda) but for the most part they don't.

Annaleigh Ashford was a memorable second understudy who got the chance to go on for one scheduled performance in Legally Blonde on Broadway. She was the first of the main cast to leave, and given she had played Margot since the beginning of the out-of-town tryout and played Elle in a couple workshops but never got to go on as Elle on Broadway, they scheduled one performance specifically for her to go on as Elle. To link into this thread, she left the show to star as Glinda in Wicked!

Really really wish I could see Rosa as Glinda next week but no way I could get into London in time as I don't finish work until 6 that day!

Rosa’s basement must be pretty large. Sarah, Sophie, Maria and Sam all held hostage at once, huh. (I know this jokes getting old but I couldn’t resist)
What would happen if Aimee and Rosa were Elphaba and Glinda together? Would Lauren be called in, or would Nessa just be written out?

I would imagine they'd send Alex on as Elphaba. Or, get in an emergency cover for one of the three roles, whichever was the most forthcoming!

There's always someone around they could call in, especially for the role of Nessa. I think even someone from a few casts ago could do it! What's KRJ up to nowadays...

I'd love some insight from behind the scenes about how they they come to these decisions.
Who do they decide to call and in what priority order (as I imagine with the business being as it is there are probably several viable options available at any given time.)

Michael McCabes big book of Nessa’s and Elphies has been red hot over the years!
Although not sure it’s as good as when the first UK tour was on and they were shipping Nessa’s and Elphies up the motorway from London to cover the tour!

Louise Dearman and Katie RJ are bound to rejoin at some point as Morrible. From what I’ve heard about Katie, by the end of her run she was playing the role of “Depressa” rather than “Nessa”.
...I’ll get my coat.

I saw him as Link in the Curve production of hairspray (the original not the tour) and he was pretty good in that. I don't recall him being vocally outstanding like Bradley but that doesn't seem a concern for most castings of Fiyero so.

I'm actually very annoyed that both the tour and London are getting actors known on the basis of their time in eastenders, especially with how little I like Aaron Sidwell as Fiyero. I'll naturally give him a chance but I really did want another treat after Oliver Savile and Bradley Jaden.

Hmm, the fact they've announced a new Fiyero but nothing else could imply Elphaba and Glinda will remain the same.

Remember when the tour was annouced and they announced it seperate fron everyone else around a month in advance because Aaron Sidwell is a 'known face', the same thing will happen here. Some guys from eastenders are apparently important enough to warrant their own press release. In a month we'll get the rest of the cast, how ever Elphaba and Glinda are staying the same anyway I'm around 80% sure.
