Oh boy, the "everybody look at me I'm desperate for attention" club reached new levels tonight....during For Good, a large portion of the front centre section of the stalls proceeded to pull out green glow sticks and hold them in the air. Pathetic.

If that ever happened at a performance I was at, I wouldnt have give the ushers a chance to confiscate them, and I know exactly where I would have put them. Then I would probably be escorted out for GBH.

Glow sticks? Really? Are they all 5 years old?! I don't understand how they aren't embarrassed to do something like that, it's utterly pathetic.
How full was the theatre tonight in the end?

For the ushers to respond so quickly suggests they were aware it was planned

Sue Kelvin almost outdid them. Like I'd give her some kind of award for that tonight. Utterly brilliant 😂 Sue Kelvin's one woman show "Bette Midler And Me" is a lot of fun. She's got plenty to say for herself!

I didn't go to cast change today, it's the first "proper" one I've missed since Rachel's last in 2012, and honestly I think it was the best decision I could possibly have made.
First of all, camping out for two days for tickets is crazy behaviour. Yes, I know there were the "weekseaters" at Rachel's last, but the difference was, that lot actually liked Rachel. I know a large proportion of those who camped this time round actively dislike Willemijn and did so just so that they could be front row for cast change. It's a pure power complex and as someone who actually really likes Willemijn's Elphaba, it disheartens me that I could have spent 12 hours on the cold tiles outside the AV only to not get a ticket because somebody who was trying to prove a point out of vanity was gonna get one instead.
The glow stick thing is beyond parody. Someone told me a few minutes ago that they'd heard on Theatre Board that people had taken out glow sticks during For Good and I thought they were joking and had to come and check for myself as I didn't believe them. How attention seeking and self centred can you get that you feel the need to cause a giant distraction for the performers and the rest of the audience just so that you can say "hey look Suzie, I exist!" in the most egotistical way possible? I remember hearing about how people waved glow sticks at the closing performance of Rock of Ages, but it was a personal thing to that particular show on the night that it CLOSED and was full to the brim with fans, not a half empty cast change performance in which the majority of the audience must have been sat there thinking "what the actual f**k is going on?".
I'm glad that I chose to stay in bed and watch some Netflix rather than go today, it's a real shame that it's an ever larger group that feel the need to ruin the show for everyone else. I hope everyone who did go had a great time though, and didn't have the experience tainted by people with no respect for those around them.

I wonder if it hurts to have a glow stick shoved up your arse? Fortunately I wasn't in so none of the front row had to find out Edit: Just realised that James.92 beat me to it

Was my first cast change show tonight and luckily, being in the circle, I missed the glow stick fiasco.
Interestingly, did anyone else notice the little embellishment by one of the keys players in Defying Gravity. Comes in at around 4:46 on that video. I've never heard it before
For me, this is the fourth and final time I will visit Wicked. I really begin to find myself switching off at parts in the show and tonight my only real desire to go was to see Willemijn play Elphaba

I've flipped between going and not going so often today myself martello736. I was at Brighton station at the last possible point I couldve got to Victoria by 730 even though at 4pm I had been definitely not going. All this talk of glow sticks tells me I too made the right decision. I do feel some sadness at missing it though I'm certain that I've fallen out of love with the show itself. Never say never I guess but for now its good memories of shows gone by for me. I won't depart this thread though, I dont want to miss 5th cover midwifes Elphaba debut

And as you can see, my attempt at not quoting a whole thing and just a bit didn't go well, sorry Dan!

When glow stick-gate happened all I could think about was how it would be discussed on this thread.... I can't get over the SPEED of the ushers. It was just so uncomfortable.
Considering I really wasn't looking forward to the show tonight, it turned out to be one of my favourite shows of the 56 I've seen.
Suzie stole the show for me - her voice is absolutely flawless and her acting choices are so unique, just when you think you've heard a line a million times, she delivers it differently and it takes you by surprise.
Willemijn is SUCH a class act. She didn't do many riffs but she didn't need to. Her performance is so refined and classy. I think the producers worldwide will struggle to find someone who can deliver the role like that ever again. Absolutely classy from start to finish with everything she did.
Loved Sarah McNicholas - she has really grown into the role and I really enjoyed her performance. However I didn't like how pantomime Sue Kelvin decided to play it tonight. What was that about?! She peaked on her mic at least 3 times....

Just shows it was very much pre planned and the ushers would have been expecting it. They coild at least have got proper ones rather than the cheap necklace type. Perhaps their budget went on nutella and similar type gifts for the cast

So not only did they do something that's incredibly childish, embarrassing, attention-seeking and a complete waste of money, but in the accompanying note they simultaneously assume that people know the show and spoil a plot point in the show for those who don't! They really are about as far from proper fans as it's possible to be, I feel so sorry for the cast having to put up with them today!

The fact that they actually planned to the line when they were going to get them out. I would say I can't believe it but the sad thing is I absolutely can. I give up, I'm off to bed and hope this whole thing was a crazy dream from drinking too much green elixir.

Also just seen the exchange between the original tweeter and someone else below. Person: Is that allowed? Tweeter: Who cares Maybe the 2,000 other people in the audience? Disgusting.

Found it an odd cast change. Empty seats everywhere & was missing something, can't put finger on what though.
Particularly during parts of Act 2 found myself thinking about what Im doing tomorrow .bit bored lol. Not to say cast weren't great they were fantastic, just as a show it bores me in places
And then those glowsticks just ended an odd night of Wicked.

These idiots claim to be fans but what theyve done is so disrespectful both to the cast and their fellow audience members

Whether they were going for a Harry Potter wand salute style thing or what I have no idea, but it was an almighty distraction and like nothing I've seen before. You really couldn't make it up. God bless the army of ushers who pounced almost instantly and confiscated them all. This annoyed me so much! I was sat in opposite them, with the aisle separating us. So so distracting, selfish and to be honest, rude. What makes it worse is that they got them out in the interval and asked a FOH if they could wave them, to which FOH obviously said no because its distracting. FOH did say however they could as the curtain went down.. but they obviously chose to completely ignore it. But FOH were quick to sort it thank goodness.

These idiots claim to be fans but what theyve done is so disrespectful both to the cast and their fellow audience members I wonder if a lot of them are maybe just Wicked fans and not general theatre fans? It is a show that seems to attract people who love theatre or who aren't bothered with it. It's still not acceptable to behave as they do but it might explain why they don't know basic theatre etiquette and how not to p*ss off the rest of the audience, especially if they usually just go to pop gigs. But obviously I don't know any of these people, maybe they're all big theatre fans anyway.

I've always hoped they're theatre fans or at least will become theatre fans as they grow up. Sadly I'm convinced the current crop are just into Wicked and won't in many cases progress to other theatre

They can't be theatre fans because anyone who cares about theatre in the slightest would know that what they did is clearly not acceptable behaviour at any theatre show. And even if they're not theatre fans, they clearly go to Wicked often enough to see how others behave in a theatre, and the vast majority of every audience will sit quietly, watch the show, and applaud where appropriate, nothing more.

I mean it's hard to find time for anything other than Wicked when you go three times a week plus anytime the third cover goat or fifth cover midwife is on.
