I don't know if I've been locked down too long, or had a bang on the head, but I today braved the inclement weather, the remnants of the Tube strike and Covid, and took advantage of the New Year sales to finally see this - and really enjoyed it! It is bonkers, as CHF said, and is a bit over-long, but it doesn't claim to be great art and it's fun, just what I needed.
Incidentally, the best behaved audience I've seen in a long while!

I have a couple of friends who are 'doomed' - we joke about never booking for a show on the same day as them. The principals are off without fail when they go, whatever the show is - either holidays which they didn't know about, the day the alternate is on (they don't research things like some of us do!), or just plain illness.

Slightly off topic, but re fighting, my friend was on a train recently when a fight broke out between a group of women, involving hair pulling and throwing punches. She mentioned this to her daughter-in-law later in the day, and was shocked when the young lady replied, "oh yes, that's how I fight!"

I don't go to gigs any more. The last time, at the Royal Albert Hall of all places, I seriously wondered if we were in the row for the incontinent, the number of times we had to stand to let people go to the loo. Plus the latecomers who, no sooner settled in their seats, got up to collect more supplies from the bar.

This is one of my all time favourite books. I hope they don't murder it.

I've just been looking at the dates Peter Andre will not be performing. It might have been quicker to post the ones he will be doing!

The nearest theatre to me in this scheme is an hour by car, and I don't drive.

Earlier this month my Covid pass was checked at both the Palladium and the Sondheim. A bit strange at the Sondheim - they checked the pass, then handed me a piece of paper with a tick on it, which I then had to hand in to another member of staff further along the line!

I was there this afternoon too. Thoroughly enjoyed it, with my £15 Todays Tix Row G seat. I'm not a Donny fan, so he did nothing for me, but he was good, although he was drowned out by the music at times (maybe it was where I was sitting). I loved Julian, and for me this was his funniest panto (if you can call it that). Paul Zerdin really does need to change his scripts though - I was nearly joining in with him, I've heard it all so often over the years.
The amount filming around me was appalling. In Donny's opening number, a woman in the front row videoed the whole song, not helped by the fact that Donny acknowledged her with a little wave. Then, later, a couple of ladies two rows in front of me were taking photos non-stop. After the interval, the usher hovered by the end of their row, but they were oblivious. At one point, Donny encouraged everyone to stand - when we sat down again, one of the women remained standing and filming. The usher indicated to her to stop, so she sat down - but carried on taking pics! The usher then virtually climbed over the people sat next to her to make her stop, which she eventually did. Her neighbour still sneaked in a couple more shots, though. Just a pity it wasn't nipped in the bud right at the start.

BBC Radio 2 have the new soundtrack as their Album of the Week. I've listened to a couple of tracks on Ken Bruce's show, and have to say not impressed with what I've heard so far. Maybe they come across better in the actual film.

Where has that person whose ‘friend’ refused to take a test gone? That was probably me. As far as I'm aware, my acquaintance hasn't gone yet. We're not that friendly, so I'm not 100% sure of exactly when they plan to visit. I would have thought fairly soon from what they said.

I can't make it this week, and to my surprise and disappointment it's not being shown in my local cinemas beyond Thursday 16th.

Ah, you've copied it, thank you! Being technically challenged, I laboriously typed this out in the Bad Behaviour thread!

The last time I tried to copy something from Twitter it all went horribly wrong, so I'll just retype what Beverley Knight tweeted yesterday:
"OK, if your intention is to come to the theatre, get rat-arsed, make a scene, disrupt the show thus causing a show-stop? My advice is stay your ass at home. People come to the theatre to be entertained, not to endure your foolishness. Done."
What gets into these people - apart from alcohol, obviously?

When I saw 'Preludes' at the Southwark Playhouse a few years ago, I had about five 'creatives' sitting in the row in front of me. They were taking copious notes, with one of them writing what looked like War & Peace, the amount of writing that was going into his notebook - all beautifully written with a pen with a very bright light on the end of it. I noticed a couple across the aisle complained to an usher during the interval. He explained who they were and what they were doing, the couple stayed put and the 'creatives' carried on writing.

I was unfortunate enough to have to catch a bus full of teenage schoolchildren this afternoon. Not a single one was wearing a mask.

I have an acquaintance who is booked to see this shortly. They are unvaccinated and will not take a test of any description. I would like to be a fly on the wall when they try to get in! Are they expecting to “style it out” when they get there or something? Doesn’t sound like that’s going to work. Hope they’re not going to be too disappointed! It will be interesting to find out!

Well they will be throwing their money away as they won't get in and won't get a refund which is clearly stated on the e mail they will receive in advance. I know!

Going back to the coughing discussion, this isn't a theatre story, but I remember right at the beginning of the pandemic (about a week before the first lockdown, when we had already been told to keep our distance from people if possible) I was standing next to a lady in the bus queue. She was coughing badly, and must have seen the look on my face, when she said it wasn't coronavirus, but she had been told she had terminal lung cancer and was on her way to visit the bank manager to put her affairs in order. I felt terrible.
