I assume this is the Curve production though, so different to the recent tour?

Crikey, is there really demand for a new tour after the long one last year?

Or some curious hybrid. The Curve production was choreographed by Nick Winston and directed by Nicolai Foster - whereas Arlene Phillips did the choreography for the 1993 London version which has been the one touring ever since.

Oh god. Peter Andre in this seems like something nobody asked for.

Peter Andre on BBC Breakfast and said he can’t commit to a full run so is glad to be able to dip in and out of shows!
He’s also said it’s a new grittier version....

It's not the version that toured before or was on the west end before. The Curve production had some new (old) songs/scenes/dialogue. It's certainly a little bit of a different style to the regular version. I don't care about Peter. It's only a small role in the grand scheme of the entire show.

I’d pay good money just to see those two onstage together and try not to kill each other

I got Price confused with Hopkins for a second and was like “ooh that is some interesting casting” - She’d probably insult everyone on stage, and backstage.

Saw the Curve version a few years ago and it seemed to drag compared to the version that started back in the day in the WE with Debbie Gibson And Craig McLachlan and then toured.Wonder if this is the same Curve production. If so it lacked drive,I felt.

It's hardly a big role and one song. I don't really get what is so off putting about it to be honest.

It’s the smug self-obsessed fakery that he exudes that probably puts me off.Not sure about anyone else?

Hopefully you don't have to change your ticket. Yet to book! However I am reconsidering - they haven’t stunt casted any of the other cast and so I’m willing to put up with him for one song. If there’d been others like in the last tour I would’ve gone into total overdrive 😂

If these excerpts whet anyone's appetite, there is currently a really good deal on Travelzoo that reduces Monday to Thursday performances to just £20, with Friday and Saturday performances at £25. The price even includes a drink and programme! (Even though we've now unequivocally established that Leeds is your patch. BurlyBeaR, you can have these on me. )

Is this basically a re-run of the Curve production from two or three(?) Christamases ago?If so it was a lacklustre drag imo.

I caught up with this on it's return to the Curve. It's really not my fave show. I appreciated the choreography a lot more than the first time around when it was on a few Christmases ago though, Arlene Phillips has done a good job. I didn't enjoy Dan Partridge as Danny all that much. I don't know what his accent was but it veered into Irish, it seemed to me, a lot of the time. His acting a bit over the top and he struggled with some of the songs. Just wasn't for me. To be fair i remember not being that enamoured with Dex Lee either when he played it though as well so maybe it's just the role i don't like. I did however enjoy Martha Kirby as Sandy, i believe this is her professional debut and she is someone to watch, fantastic voice. A much stronger and less innocent Sandy than we are used to and compared to Jessica Paul in the first run. The others were all quite good but i think in the main i preferred the cast of the original Curve run. Peter Andrew was on but there's not really a lot to say. He was Peter Andre.
Not my fave but it was still an enjoyable couple of hours.
Btw anyone who did watch that original Curve production of this....i'm sure the teacher had a song? Right? It was Shobna Gulati and i distinctly remember her singing. It appears to be missing from this touring version so seems they have cut that one.

The Curve version was much grittier than the Debbie Gibson London version and had more songs in it,if I remember.Did like the glossier, more commercialised London version.Think Shane Ritchie was in it.Programme somewhere in loft with bright neon pink cover.

Also do i remember rightly that the first Curve version had a car race scene? The drag race, right? Because it didn't appear here. I feel like some bits had been cut. I remember that being quite a good scene. Or am i remembering wrong?

This was just on in oxford new theatre last Week. I hate to slate a show but it was the second worst touring production i had ever seen. The first being hairspray. I went during the Week and people had got up and actually walked out. I admired the cast and thoroughly enjoyed reliving the songs from the film that i Watched until the video tape could play no more. Peter Andre was a crowd pleaser and had everyone on their feet, the finale was the best bit.😂🤣
