Plot twist - what if its actually the horse under that chandelier cloth?
Would explain audience screaming the house down if a giant horse was being lifted up into the gods...

Lucy St Louis is quite a bit older than Christine is supposed to be. But I suppose it's unlikely to get anybody the right age who could actually play the role. How old is Christine supposed to be?

I thought that was Russel Grant on the right on the fourth photo after a quick glance! Now I'd pay to see that...

Only a week or so to go now. As I said a while back, I returned my opening night tickets. Figured I'd let others discover what the situation is before committing to visiting myself.
I look forward to the memoirs of someone or another who's been in the centre of this show to come out, we might get a bit more context than the random press reports.
On that point, when is ALW going to publish the 1986-onwards edition of his autobiography? (and if he can get a few fewer references to his sexual prowess, that would be welcome).

It seems like there possibly is a solution to the access part but they just aren't willing to invest the money? (see whole twitter thread) Yes, I personally think the entire theatre should be rebuilt so it only has wheelchair spaces. And I think the audience should be paid to go, and paid per clap, and they should be given free back rubs by the Chippendales during the show. I was worried you were going to propose back rubs by the Clapindales for a moment there...

Gosh maybe I'm having a very senior moment. Were you there on Wednesday evening too? I'm guessing so due to the reference of shop stop. If so, Ugly was definitely in.

I doubt they'd be socially distancing for end of August realistically. Or at least the moment restrictions are lifted they'll release all seats even if right now they're selling socially distanced only.

There was a big issue for us in what seemed to be a throwaway bit of "one upping" based on how many miscarriages they've each had. How tone deaf can you be? They address that in the actual musical, don't they? Seems to me it challenges the idea of constantly making women compare/compete with each other Well briefly, yes, but surely there are more sympathetic ways to do it than using miscarriages as a starting point. I don't agree the show challenges the idea of constantly making women compare/compete with each other though, three quarters of the show is based on the idea that they are competing to see who suffered the most. The fact that it's touched on as a bad idea for 3 minutes doesn't excuse the rest of the piece if that's the message they're trying to deliver.

I tried to pay up for it yesterday but the website wasn't having it. Am I right in saying all streams are available to watch on demand for the next couple of weeks?
Seems a brilliant way to show us all much more of the rehearsal room and process. Very impressed by the concept.

Thoroughly enjoyed it this afternoon - am very glad to be able to be back in theatres again. It's served as a great reminder of the fact that I want to see half of these shows again and a showcase for newer productions.
Orchestra especially were top drawer - there was only one orchestration which I thought missed the mark entirely (When I Grow Up) but 15 out of 16 is a good hit rate for a concert like that!

Got around to seeing this tonight - I'm still processing my thoughts. Overall though it's a very confused show. Generally strong performances, some excellent wordplay and good music, but the overall structure didn't sit well for me.
Is it trying to be historical or not? There's some genuine history in there but mixed up with lines about writing Shakespeare and forming bands that didn't exist. We're going to end up with a lot of people who are both more aware of who the six wives were but also totally confused as to what happened. Presenting the six wives as contemporary of each other (at least in terms of death ages) also leads to a confusion. If it's trying to be historically accurate (which I've seen in interviews that they say it is) there are some major problems.
There was a big issue for us in what seemed to be a throwaway bit of "one upping" based on how many miscarriages they've each had. How tone deaf can you be?
Speaking of tone deaf - sound mix was chaotic, and I was very close to the desk so in theory in a prime spot.
What is the musical trying to do? Show that you can change your story or show that you're stuck in where history places you? It seemed to ebb close to saying "we're better than what history makes us out to be" but then drifted away in a couple of minutes.
Also - I'm guessing there was no budget to get a new curtain after the move from the Ambassadors? Everything just looked slightly off of scale - I'm assuming it was picked up and walked down Shaftesbury Avenue without any alterations.
All of that said, anything is better than Thriller Live so I'm more positive than the last time I left the Lyric!

Good debate all, keep it up.
Separate thing entirely...
Has anyone yet heard about moved tickets from the originally scheduled June performances?

It will save Cameron about 20,000 a week. Les Mis did it and years later most of us have moved on. Technology changes! I’m against it really but will it sound the same? No it wont sound the same. I'll admit that a while ago the internet provided me with an orchestra mix (no vocals) from the sound desk of the UK tour (reduced 2012 version) and it's reallly flat in places and lacks the dynamics and power of the full orchestration. I'm suitably intrigued by that.. Sound board mixes are sometimes surprisingly strange to listen to - it doesn't always sound the same as the theatre does. I don't remember being as struck by the 2012 tour's orchestrations (or anything about it, but that's a different story) as I was with the London staging. May well be mixed differently, who knows.. I remain hopeful.

The thing I still find amusing is Laverty's body is still the longest running plot point.
I wonder why the OCG moved Terry out of Kingsgate - they must have left him there for a long while after leaving the print shop so it seems a strange time to move him. Possibly as the unit we're used to has been mostly inactive until recently and are now back in action.

It makes sense to an audience. I’m not sure that completely losing any semblance of a weekend will be popular with performers at first. Or crew. That said, two clear days off on Monday and a Tuesday is an improvement from the current situation in that sense for a "weekend". It would cause more childcare problems though.

What surprises me is the fact we've been in this situation for a good few days now and six weeks of early bookers are in limbo unable to do anything because of the lack of communication. Even a "we're working on it, we'll get back to you soon" would have been appreciated.

When is this meant to open? April, but producers have publicly stated they'd delay opening if social distancing is still a thing by that point. So there is a big caveat in play.

I'm still not sure I entirely agree with charging an extra fiver to sit on Zoom completely muted for an hour, although you do get to have a chat with Jonathan Sayer an hour before which is nice, he's a lovely bloke. It's a supply and demand thing in my mind. Considering the numbers they've got watching they could charge way more than a £5 premium and still fill those tickets. It's not my kind of thing really but £5 is a steal if you wanted that.

Not surprised they're bringing it back - the news the rest of the London season was cancelled hitting today just felt too much like a coincidence.

I guess it'll come down to finances and whether this is viable or not. Jonathan did say "thousands of people" watching earlier in the week.
I'd be hopeful that they do more - it's an interesting "event" to deliver online and does seem to land well. In a way it almost works better like this than it does in person.

Apologies if this has already been covered. I have signed up to view this show on New Year's Eve. Can anyone tell me how I can view it on my TV rather than a laptop Easiest is going to be to connect your laptop to TV via a HDMI cable (instead of your Sky/console/VM etc), then have the video in full screen on your laptop, which will also duplicate onto your TV. You might need to use Ctrl + Windows + P to select "duplicate" to make this work (or "Second screen only").

When are they contacting the audience members? I’m due to go Dec 22 and haven’t heard anything. What a disgrace! Seriously? When you posted this everything was gossip and rumours. Until things were officially announced they couldn't do anything. Now they have and have already emailed patrons asking for refund details. Theatres will have to wait for the official announcement before emailing the public - plus I would hope they have spent the time contacting all the staff involved first and foremost. I'm so glad I made it there on Saturday, if there were a single seat for tomorrow I'd grab it! Judging from the reactions to Baz's tweets it looks like a lot of actors got the news from him, which sucks At that point it was still unconfirmed, just like most things he tweets. Still not ideal (although how performers missed the rumours over the last few days about potential Tier 3 amazes me), but again, their employers couldn't really have sent out a "you might be unemployed in two days time. But you might not be. Tune in to BBC News to find out" email!

Also the mechanics in there were old, broken and very creaky. What had charm in 1986 just looked in huge need of an update in 2020. . I don't quite get this - aren't you saying it's going to look the same? In which case, won't it open looking like it needs to be updated? I think you're mixing what I'd refer to as a "visual update" with a "mechanical update". A visual update, as such, is a redesign of everything a show looks like - this is often referred to as a new production. A "mechanical update" as I termed it is updating the mechanics underneath what we can see to improve safety/efficiency. The language coming out of the theatre at the start of closure was the set was falling into disrepair/bits were in need of being replaced. That doesn't mean it would appear different to an audience, but it would be a new physical set. The fact the theatre is currently bare indicates it will physically be a new set. How closely it resembles the original whilst still being called the "Brilliant Original" is the subject of the debate at the moment.

I think this must be based on Nativity Goes Wrong - couple of reasons: 1. Chris is at a piano, and the character played links between scenes in NGW 2. The writers have been quoted in the past that they may well revive it in some form in the future.
Most of the characters in Nativity were not the usual unit, so it'll be interesting to see how it's been adapted. I assume the whole "we've got a car as a generator" segment has gone as I can't see how that'll translate onto screen.
Well worth getting a copy of the script from Nativity Goes Wrong if you can - I've read it through a few times and had a really clear picture of how it "should" look in my mind. Some cracking moments, even on the page.

Why the negativity?
After what will be a year of not having much theatre at all - the important thing will be getting money flowing through the system and building up consumer confidence.
Investors are not going to be backing "iffy" shows at the moment, they will need to build up their own war chests again, hence the crowd pleasers. Once that happens, we'll start to see a return to the usual mixture of shows (although who knows what will happen at the new Trafalgar Theatre, as we will lose a studio space there).
Next year it'll be mainstream big hitters or no theatre. I would opt for a trip to New Jersey any day out of those two.

Hopefully he's back on form for next week.
I'm not joining in this time - Zoom didn't work well last time out in terms of video quality, so I don't hold any confidence it will be better this time.
If you're going to pay a decent price, you'd expect a decent stream - not much point paying for a pixelated mess.
