I’m taking one for the team with this and so far it’s not looking promising. I thought Todrick Hall was choreographing it but now I gather he’s actually IN it. I can’t stand him and this girl is sounding less than competent. * fast forward to June when I’m posting from the interval squeaking “I love it” 🤪 I'm there on opening night. Beginning to regret getting a ticket

Looks like this hasn't sold as well as expected in Manchester. Have been keeping an eye on availability and today all the grand tier seats have gone off sale, and theres still loads of seats left in the other tiers. Maybe moving from the Opera House to the Palace wasn't a clever idea.

Curious as to what they've shaved, since it was more like 2hrs 50 mins at Southwark. It was nearer that at Salford too as we didn't get out until about 10.45

Finally saw this in Manchester last night. Got a last minute cheap ticket after reading about it for the last few years, and have to say I was distintly underwhelmed. From my very uncomfortable seat high up in the grand tier, the stage looked extremely bare and the set pieces they dragged on were pathetically small although I did quite like the yellow brick road ones. I guess a lot of the scene setting was down to the reliance on the video screen which wasn't fully visible where i sat. The cast were pretty good, mainly overshadowed by The Vivienne hamming it up to the extreme. Overall, glad to say I've seen it as a piece of entertaining fluff for a Friday night, but only at reduced price. I did sit there thinking how the heck they could justify charging West End prices for this when it transfers to the Gillian Lynne.

This made me laugh. Is it bad behaviour when you're just sat there watching the show and you're so darned handsome you distract one of the actors?

Not sure if it's bad behaviour but I sufferred extremely annoying behaviour at the Lowry for 42 Balloons last night. Two ladies sat to my right, one in the next seat but one to me spent whole of first act swaying not just her head but whole upper body. Second act, waited until the lights had gone down to rummage through a plastic carrier bag on the floor under her seat to bring out a succession of food and drink which she ate and drank loudly non-stop,hardly stopping for breath during the next 30 minutes. Her companion, sat next to me, had obviously only come along to keep her company as she was evidently bored. Had her phone on her lap and tried to look at it several times. Took off her sweater then put it back on again at least twice. Then started rubbing her hands together for at least ten minutes- might not sound bad but they were raised to just under her chin so it was right in my sightline and very distracting.
Thankfully the show was so good it didn't distract me too much.

I am curious to hear thoughts from someone who has seen this at the Vaudeville and now, as I remember listening to a podcast where they mentioned that Act 2 is almost entirely new songs. I loved this at the Vaudeville and I thought it was in a really good shape so I hope the changes didn’t take anything away from it… There's certainly a big change in mood in the second act but I don't know how much was changed from previous versions. For a second preview this was in excellent shape and got a great reception.

Just out from the second preview, absolutely fantastic. I loved it, I'm hooked. Energetic performances from all thè cast, brilliant 80s vibes from the tunes and surprisingly bittersweet ending.

The Metro have rather belatedly posted a 5 star review in today's issue. "You have to really love theatre to get this show, but the rewards are there for those who do"

and she wasn't chosen to go up on stage, which was a relief. I've heard performers who routinely bring people up on stage say they ignore folks who are volunteering vociferously, waving their arms, etc. Having seen CoM several times, they tend to choose people sat in specific seats. I got chosen on one of my visits, and yes I definitely wasn't making any attempt to be noticed.

Please god, hope this isnt true. Seeing him as Frank was one of the worst performances I've ever seen on a stage. He was so bad, the audience were shouting his lines to him instead of the usual ad libs. This really does need a reboot.

I don't know if this passed me by but The Little Big Things is going to be on NationalTheatreAtHome. I'm glad it got a proshoot! Yeah it was filmed over two performances a few weeks before it ended. I was in the audience for one of them, look forward to seeing the result

It’s a very small tour (so far, as far as I know). I don’t think Sheffield audiences are going to be influenced by what’s on in Bolton, Windsor or Hull. They’ll probably just go and see it in their local theatre. I was looking at it from a more selfish perspective as someone seeing the tour in Bolton but who won't now be making what's usually an annual visit to the Crucible this Christmas. Think there's room for both. I've booked to see it at Bolton but will be giving the Sheffield production a visit too.

Very annoying whoopers during the bows after A Taste of Honey at Royal Exchange last night. Was very noticeable, it's not really the kind of play to induce such a response. Got a feeling it was a relative/friend of one of the cast who was seeking attention.

I was quite interested to see this when it was announced, but not so sure anymore. I did buy a ticket for Manchester but much like with Branagh’s Lear I was somewhat underwhelmed by the casting announcement. I have to be in the right mood for Shakespeare, so four hours squashed into the Opera House’s horrible seats bookended by a couple of hours on trains that may or may not turn up is really putting me off. I'm feeling the same. I got a cheap seat during the presale, mainly on the premise that I could finally see Mckellan on stage but then saw the running time. Really not looking forward to the prospect of four hours in a cramped seat and will probably forfeit the ticket.

I was expecting an exclusive from EP on tomorrow's radio show ....... EP is usually about 3 weeks behind everyone else so I wouldn't bank on that.

Caught this tonight at The Lowry and loved it. I've never fully watched The Little Mermaid so kind of went in blind but I found it hilarious. I wasn't expecting such a long fully staged show. Great performances from all the cast and brilliant puppetry.

The filmed matinee today was great and the first time I’ve seen the show since opening night. So glad I managed to catch it one more time. I did think it was an odd choice to film a performance with so many school groups in. There were some strange noises and talking but I suppose the AI will edit that out. Also, a shame to hear phones go off twice today. Especially at the literal moment of the painting reveal at the end. Throw in the now mandatory rustling and yeah… just felt a bit sorry for the cast. Otherwise, still a great show! It was also filmed in the evening. I was there and the audience were very well behaved. Still not 100% clear what the filming was for- one of the producers came out before it started and mentioned it was part of their commitment to make shows more accessible and thanks to help from the NT, but I didn't get the impression it was for future broadcast unfortunately. Glad it has been preserved though, I really enjoyed the show. It was my second time of viewing and I got more out of it this time. A friend was there with some of his friends who were on their 50th visit to the show, so it has built up a following!
