I liked Theatr Clwyd, it’s where I began my theatregoing, but it was a council-owned building that hadn’t really had any money spent on it since it opened. It’s undergoing a major renovation, so am looking forward to going there again once they finish. Only been there twice but I think the Barbican is easily my favourite London theatre. Regionally I also really like the Royal Exchange, Liverpool Everyman, Sheffield Crucible, and Birmingham Rep. All of them nice modern(ish) theatres where the only time there’s any restricted view it’s pretty much the fault of the creatives not the environment. Agree with the comments re:Theatr Clwyd. It's also my local theatre but have only made a couple of visits during it's renovations, so will be good to return when completed. Theatre Severn is another local theatre to me that has a welcoming environment.

A small win, but this sounds like the best featured use of a Hoover in a musical since ANNIE. *starts writing Shake'n'Vac - The Musical*

I'm currently reading [& enjoying] Robert Sellers book "When the British Musical Ruled the World". Also got this for Christmas and enjoyed the couple of chapters I've read up to now.

Now reading "Murder at the Adelphi" by Peter Gale which is a rehearsal diary of the original production of "Sunset Boulevard" in 1993. Thanks for recommending this. Got it for Christmas and really enjoying it.

I treated myself to John Wilson's Sinfonia of London recording of Oklahoma! before Christmas. High quality vinyl, limited run and signed by the conductor. Cost an arm and a leg but very pleased with it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but is the NT Live version from 2018 available anywhere to view/download? (legally, obviously ). I cant find it on the popular video sharing site although someone said previously it was there.

Just found out that a past member of my local youth theatre group Llangollen Operatic Young 'Uns is making his West End debut in this. Cassius Hackfoth playing Montello I believe. He is one of a number of past members to have gone into the industry.

Great concert in Rhyl last night as expected. Program as described by david J above. An added bonus for me and my two friends was as we were having our usual late night stop at McDonalds in Rhyl, in walked John and his MD. After he happily had a photo or two, they the came to sit with us (even though the restaurant was empty) and chatted away about the show, the tour, where we were from and even shared our chips as he had forgotten to order his during his wrestle with the touchscreen. Just as engaging off stage as on it.

Don't forget the new series of The Yorkshire Vet starts in exactly one hour on Channel 5, or YTV as we call it around here. Having our own tv channel is just like the old days. Which I tuned in to as usual and the first thing I saw was the dog unable to pass urine which is sadly what my lovely girl in my profile picture succumbed to only 4 weeks ago so not a great night for me . Will tune in to the rest of the series as usual though.

Just saw Music of the Night at New Mills. What a treat it was. Not only a brilliant singer as usual but a very funny guy. The show was half songs and half banter with the audience, with some jabs at two certain singers whose last names begin with 'B'. Even had a moment when he was pleased to hear an old lady who came from Burry Port, Wales, like him. The songs he sang included This is the Moment, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, something from 'Nine', Maria, Evermore, Till I Hear You Sing, Music of the Night, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Why God Why, Anthem, Loosing My Mind (well half of it whilst the guy on the keyboard whose name escapes me sung the first half), Al Jonson's Sunny Boy, I'd Rather Be Sailing from A New Brain, Tell my Father from Frank Wildhorn's Civil War, Stars, I Dreamed a Dream and Bring Him Home, and a song based on Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood Good to see the good reviews of his show. Seeing him in sunny Rhyl on Wednesday. His previous shows have been with a band of 6or 7 but I believe this one is more intimate with just John Quirk his MD on keys and a cello? Still a number of the songs listed were performed on his previous shows but that's how he likes to do it apparently, but good to see some new ones. I'm guessing the Dylan Thomas one was Eli Jenkins Prayer.

A friend of mine has said he's read this will tour to venues/cities in the UK but from what I've read on here that's just about impossible. Is its next likely venue (if anywhere) somewhere in Europe well into the future?

I don’t watch Britain’s Got Talent but from looking on Wikipedia they’re not listed as one of the acts in the semi-finals. Did they not get through? They're on tonight's semi-final according to their FB page.

Could any of the NW contingent on here please advise as to whether the multistory carpark at the Lowry is the best place to park for a Thursday matinee please. I have to drive there unfortunately. It's a good option in terms of proximity but as mentioned Salford Quays traffic is horrendous and there will be a lot of slow movement especially post-matinee as MediaCity office workers depart around the same time too. Depending on what direction your coming into Salford, you may want to consider parking at Imperial War Museum and the short walk over the bridge to Lowry, you'd be back on the road quicker. The only consideration there is the car park closes at 7pm, if you were planning on eating post-show. Thanks for the great IWM suggestion. Very easy to get to and plenty of spaces at 1pm ish. Took us seconds to leave after the show and had a journey home free from queueing traffic.

One further question, if I try the IWM parking and there is no room, is it simple enough to drive to the multistory (over the canal?) Or would I need to retrace my journey on the main roads.

What was Ian Botham like during his panto run. Not an obvious performer. John Virgo likewise? In Ian Botham's autobiography he lists a quote from a critic of 'the only thing more wooden than the beanstalk was Ian Botham'

Sorry to be asking that question but the Hope Mill website seems to be recommending wearing masks inside the theatre and supplying sanitizer. No requirements for vaccine or test status. Is that what people have experienced please?

They're setting it in post-war England. There's a real colliery band /kitchen sink film vibe from the snippets of orchestrations I've dipped into on the podcast. It doesn't feel wrong - could be very exciting! At last a proper musical vibe

Photos of children on office desks should be strongly discouraged. Taylor Swift should write some songs that aren't about ex-boyfriends. Unless they are Newfoundlands or St Bernards, rescue dogs are actually rescued dogs. Worse, when someone screenshares with you and we see the kiddies and dog on their desktop wallpaper. Yawn. Worse again, pic of kiddies and dog is their profile pic on Teams. No. One. Cares. Is a pic of a dog as your avatar on, say, a theatre based message board Ok? Asking for a friend....

This may be a stupid question so apologies in advance - can I access these deals if I'm with Tesco (on O2's network) rather than with O2 directly? I'm assuming not. It's through O2 priority so an O2 number is required (though not a contract as my mum has PAYG on O2 and still gets the offers). The theatre tokens appear to have sold out again. I'm also on Tesco so I got a free O2 sim from their website and put it in an old unlocked phone I had in the house. I did have to activate it with £10 of credit but still got a good deal with the tokens.

I've just completed the purchase of £80 theatre tokens for £40. Slight panic when after completing payment via paypal my SOLT order said not completed and cancelled. Fortunately the email with the voucher arrived soon after.

I had my 2nd Pfizer jab yesterday. Injection site was marginally more stiff later in the day than the 1st jab, but other than that a similar lack of noticeable side effects.

Seems Les Mis will sell well regardless of what format it’s in. Original, arena tour, 25th anniversary version, Concert.... people flock to it. I bet I could stand up on stage in a mob cap with a bucket In one hand and a broom in the other, miming to Castle on a Cloud and it would bloody sell out! You'd need to wear the raggy dress as well.

Thank you for providing this link. I thought I'd signed up to watch this on Sunday but sadly discovered too late I had only registered an 'interest' and not actually booked a ticket.
