Super surprised she isn't going to stand there in the black slip and sing the living heck out of AIWNSG with that incredible orchestra....

I very rarely click through to tabloid links, but the S*n are claiming that investors are worried they won’t make their money back and are threatening to pull out and therefore forcing it to close. Now I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how theatre investments work… 😂😂😂 LITERALLY not how it works.

The worst it can be for ensemble is equity minimum of £880 per week for 8 shows, plus the additional add ons for understudies, performances on etc. A basic of £3520 p/m isnt bad for your first professional job straight after college. Correction: they’re on UKT contracts so the minimum for Tier A is £527.13. Yes, I as going to say they're definitely not on equity contracts - Troubadour has some weird agreement with SOLT to make it eligible for Oliviers but otherwise it's not 'West End'

Thought this was a little tonally all over the shop.
It's trying a bit too hard to be Pride and Prejudice Sort Of, but also a serious play, and as a result doesn't land either particularly well.
Cast are very good (thought all three women were great) and it didn't overstay it's welcome at 2hr 5 mins inc an interval, but I did get to the end of it going...I don't think you achieved what you set out to do here.
3 stars

This was a bit uneven for me, but I came out having had a good time.
First half take a bit of time to set out it's ideas for me, but it really got into its own for act 2.
Cast are pretty good with one exception. Paul Hilton is as ever great, and I really liked Priyanga Burford too - both worthy of their Olivier Noms. I thought Smith was good, but I think it actually confirms for me that he's not a great stage actor actually and is much more suited to film... However, I couldn't get over how awful Jessica Brown Findlay was in this. Like, borderline offensively bad actually. It was like she was starring in a different play to everyone else, and she also had absolutely no idea what that play was. Bizarre piece of casting. Really unsettled that first act.
4 stars just, because I thought the second act was so strong and the audience participation, which usually makes me want to pull my own eyes out, actually really worked here.

Did you even SEE this show? We were all singing and chatting and eating. Why do so many have an issue with this? Because you're not the performers who people pay money to see! I don't care about the eating but stop singing and chatting, people pay a lot of money to see people other than you! This was exactly my fear with this production, the lack of enforcement and warnings about audience behaviour is encouraging bad behaviour and distractions. Fully agree.

Demand is...not great for this currently - it's very easy to get heavily discounted tickets and it's certainly not full by any stretch, so I would imagine that it will close up in August as currently advertised.
I would be shocked if it did win the Olivier but weirder things have happened.

A girl on my train home had just seen this, and said there was a huge queue of people trying to get a refund by the end - surely not! Well the box office go home at 8 so definitely seems unlikely.

The Girls sold infinitely more tickets when they changed the name to Calendar Girls The Musical... Can you share the box office receipts before and after renaming please? Certainly, it lasted less than 6 months in the West End and was on seat filler constantly, and it did a 2 year UK tour mostly sold out at venues on the road 🙂

To her credit, Freema was in New Amsterdam on American TV which can sign you up for 7 years at the off (I think she did 4 and then it ended) - she was good in it.

But a big QDOS panto runs for 4-5 weeks, does 12 shows a week, and is usually about 2.5 hours long. People do that every year and are fine (albeit needing a holiday afterwards!)
I'm not saying I agree with it, but we've been doing this for a while now - and I think theyre probably safe to give it less than 100% at a Tuesday 2pm show if they need to personally.

according to the presale, they’re doing 12 show weeks which is… insane I mean it IS, but also Panto does this for 4 weeks every year so...it's not uncommon

Do not get Grace Mouat as Karen at all. It’s a great comedic role Hard agree - I fully expected her to be in this, but as someone else surely. Janis?
