The website, which previously stated tickets were going on sale this month, now says the release is TBD. I hope the plan is still to open this in two months’ time, it seems late in the day for tickets to be selling, but then again I’ve not booked for the Almeida before so that could well be common practice? They did the same with Macbeth: maybe they are waiting to see if they have to extend Macbeth?

They can close venues of course, but they can forget about people not seeing their friends/family going forward

If its severe enough to get you in hospital, the yes you're more likely to have long term issues. Of course the percentage of people hospitalised is relatively low, and that was pre-vaccine, so the evidence links up

Fwiw no theatre I've been to in the last 2 months have stuck to staggered entrances. So I'd just turn-up 5/10 mins beforehand to get in if you're worried

Gove was very pro lockdown and he's cutting a rug in nightclubs now. Probably going to be fine!

Fifth day in a row with England's cases slowing down. Whilst Scotlands cases (with their mandatory masks) going upwards. Maybe masks aren't a silver bullet, and mandatory masking wouldn't make much of a difference?
Or maybe you shouldn't use statistically incomplete data? There's a reason the 7 day rolling averages don't include the most recent days.
Using the specimen dates it's going down

Four days in a row when the number of new cases decreased in England. Just to counter the doom and gloom

I'm surprised by how many people are not getting vaccinated. My housemates have both chosen not to get vaccinated, citing the usual "fertility" or "we don't know how it will affect us as it was rushed" nonsense. One of them is 46 and single so who he's saving his fertility for I don't know... Anyway, both are foreign nationals so presumably if travel becomes restricted to only those vaccinated, they'll have to if they want to visit home/family. It just surprises me. I had covid myself a few months ago, and whilst I did isolate and stay in my room away from them (they didn't catch it), I would have felt much better in the knowledge that they were at least protected by a vaccine, as if they had caught it and become very ill it would have essentially been my fault. And another surprising group? Fitness people such as personal trainers! I follow many on instagram and am constantly seeing stories about how they opt not to vaccinate as they're super-healthy and want to do things the natural way and their body doesn't need it. They're missing the bigger picture entirely. Loads of sportsmen and footballers aren't taking it either apparently

I went to the doctor today with heart rhythm problems. Blood test and ECG. While I was there they received instructions that owing to a shortage of suitable bottles no more blood tests can be performed except for things like cancer diagnosis. I've been referred to the cardiologist and I'm hoping that my blood test can slip in before the moratorium, because otherwise the cardiologist is just going to have to guess at the underlying cause. This is the reality of "I don't want any more restrictions; we'll just have to get used to it". Unless you also plan to stop treating Covid-19 patients and shove them all into a barn and let them cough at each other until the dying stops, the high number of patients means other people can't get normal levels of care. Everything is spread too thin. (And all the staff at the practice looked absolutely exhausted.) But the solution to that is going to be to put more money into health care. If we agree to ridiculous social distancing measures when most of us are double jabbed, instead of putting them in the bin where they belong, then we won't get rid of them (Masks are a sideshow really. Won't make a difference in terms of getting case numbers down really)

I think a great issue is that people are looking for the end point of COVID. There is no "end point". We must vaccinate and practise staying away from others when we are ill. Additional restrictions can only stay in place so long. If mask-wearing stays as long as COVID is present, it will stay forever. At the peak of a pandemic, fine, but once everyone has been vaccinated and the pandemic is being better managed, it should no longer be enforced. Yup. There is evidence that wearing masks lowers demand for leisure activities and therefore has economic consequences. Its not consequence free to keep forever masking And its not selfish to not want to wear a mask for hours. Im not an anti masker, but at the same time shouting at people who dont like wearing masks that they are selfish isnt going to be productive

But I don't see any issue whatsoever with masks in crowded indoor settings indefinitely until we are no longer in a pandemic. It is not much to ask, i think thats the point though. A lot of people DONT want to wear masks indoors indefinitely. If that's what people want to happen in society now, then its a big change in behaviour which will need to be justified widely. Saying COVID isnt enough with most people double jabbed

I'm personally fine with covid free passes. I'm also vaguely ok with masks, though I prefer not to wear them for hours. But covid is endemic and isn't going away. I'm not pretending it isn't a serious disease but if you're saying we all have to wear masks and social distance now, for an unknown length of time, then I feel that's unacceptable. But anyway, this has derailed things somewhat so I'll leave it at that! But I don't see any issue whatsoever with masks in crowded indoor settings indefinitely until we are no longer in a pandemic. My perspective on this is different. Everyone’s now been vaccinated and immune as they’re going to get. That’s it. It’s not going away any time soon. If any measures are introduced now there’s no logical end point. So either we are OK with masks and social distancing forever (and no working theatre industry) or we have to learn to not be nervous in the theatre I'll be trying for rush tickets for this this weekend! Well I hope you don't ever expect anyone to do anything for you, because you are being exceptionally selfish. There doesn't have to be an end date - this is pandemic, no-one knows what will happen next or how long it will take. The theatre industry can work fine with people in the audience wearing masks, the only thing preventing that is selfish people. With masks, then more people will probably be more comfortable without social distancing, so yet again there is no logical argument for not wearing masks, just people who can't be bothered to be slightly inconvenienced for the greater good. That says more about them than others I'm personally fine with covid free passes. I'm also vaguely ok with masks, though I prefer not to wear them for hours. So, it sounds like there are too many yes men (and women) at the NT and RSC and not enough arguments! But I suppose times have changed since Peter Hall - would an AD get away with having regular stand up rows with other employees now? Maybe consensus building means not enough risk taking and controversy, and less diversity in the sense of contrasting and intransigent personalities bouncing off one another? I was just thinking that we've also lost the platform talks that the NT normally does with writers, actors, etc. Surely those would be pretty easy to re-start, and another way of revitalising the building. At the least they can do it on the stage and stream it online. Very lazy from the NT IMO

The national firing their staff during the pandemic left a bad taste in the mouth
In terms of the shows, i found the highs ( Small Island, After Life, The Welkin) to be high, and the lows to be low. I do agree that they need to take a look at their programming and put something a bit more inspiring in. Saying that, am looking forward to Normal Heart
And the RSC really need to sort themselves out in terms of getting more shows out there
