Looks like the merchandise shop is closing too. Went in this week for tickets and they are not selling them anymore. Merch is pretty much all packed up. Lady serving said they are moving to a new location but didn’t know where that was

I’m interested in hearing how well they were doing when they just had the Cafe. It was always busy, it seemed really popular among theatre fans and was a great place to go before shows.
If they were doing well then opening the Diner probably put them into debt that they couldn’t get out of. But if they were already struggling to pay rent at the Cafe, opening the Diner was a baffling strategy to try and earn more money.

Why don't you tell Cameron Mackintosh he's not a business person; and I'll take cover before telling him he's not a theatre person. I'd suggest these somewhat campy efforts aren't run by 'theatre people' but are like the cafe equivalent of fan fiction. They're merely theatre-adjacent, trying to get in on successful brands. They're started by not very good business people, who think a sprinkle of 'West End magic' will have thick punters clapping like seals to see their favourite show represented as a burger or a milkshake - and a lot of the time....they're right. |
