Nowt wrong with an upfront tourist trap. I hope they find their audience.

Nowt wrong with an upfront tourist trap. I hope they find their audience. Not necessarily a tourist trap. I live in London and planning on going when it opens.

I walked past there again last night and this certainly so seem to be picking up the pace.
For anyone not familiar where it is, there is a music/record.CD store called Fopp, on the fringes of Covent Garden and diagonally opposite Harry Potter & The Cursed Child. The new diner is about 20 meters from Fopp.

Wasn’t this tried before in Leon on Shaftesbury Ave about 5 years ago? Do they still do it?

All seems to have gone quiet on this. Website says coming Summer 2022 but we are almost at the end of summer - the trees think it’s Autumn already!!

It's still happening.
I walked past the venue last week.
Just like the Theatre Cafe, that are large images of current West End shows. Back to the Future is one of them. I honestly can't remember the second image- possibly Hamilton? Or Frozen?
There was also a large recruitment drive a little while back.

Walked past today and it looks very nearly ready. They have the big Legally Blonde letters which I believe were on the Savoy, along with a huge S from Shrek. Very similar decor to the Cafe.

Don’t count on seeing anything you’re eating, the lighting level is that of a 1980’s provincial gay bar. I’m sure the impossible burgers will be lovely though.

I’ve been hearing mixed things about this place, has anyone been yet?
Had some teething issues post-opening with its booking system cancelling a load of bookings - but outside of that apparently the food is really good but overpriced (£22 for a burger, and £15 for a vegan hotdog - although it is London prices I suppose).
Also it’s apparently quite noisy (the Theatre Cafe itself is always quite loud with the constant music - I’ve always found it slightly overwhelming! So goodness knows what it’s like with live singing from the wait staff)

Just seen a post on MTAS (Musical Theatre Appreciation Society Facebook group) from a lady who went today and saw a mouse on the premises. Apparently the staff were pretty “calm” about the whole thing. Gross!

My first trip to the new Diner tonight, so a few thoughts of the experience.
It’s a really nice venue with great staff who provided great service with a smile and a song or two over my 90 minute stay. Being a solo visitor I got a seat at a bar which was fine for me until I realised I was sat directly behind the stage area where the staff do the singing so every so often I got a great view of the singing when it happened. Though being so close meant it was very loud from my seat. Thankfully the live singing was mixed with playing OCR’s. I wasn’t too sure about one attempt to start a customer sing along to “Let It Go” by one of the staff when we are tucking into burgers and chips. I’m all for a sing along but not while I’m eating. Even using the restroom, the music is piped into there so you can’t escape it.
The food I had was delivered promptly and presented nicely once ordered. Though I suppose you can’t really go wrong with burger and chips. I’d go back again but I wouldn’t want to do it with every London trip.
It was certainly busy in the Diner this evening and a nice way to end my London trip on.

It’s weirdly off putting and a little overwhelming if you’re looking for a brief respite from the constant music

I love the concept ! The venue looks great and the staff were all talented and friendly, chatting away to people. The food was really overpriced for what it was though. £18 for what was essentially a hot dog sausage from a jar, in a plain bread bun with 6 chips. The desserts were amazing though! I’d go back for cake and a drink but not for a proper meal.

I'd love to take my kids but the food sounds really basic and overpriced - why can't they make an effort?

Not great but we can't single out this venue for it

Not going well for the Theatre Cafe at the moment... even if the diner is a place I steer away from in my ongoing attempt to talk to less people, the few times I've been with friends the diner has always been lovely and the food's been great.
I do hate the "karaoke". I bet that turns away a customer or two.

It’s moving to a an ”exciting new venue”. Is that the same as “closing”? Fake news.
