Ballet returns to the Coliseum over Christmas, from 3 December to 3 January. In place of the planned performances of Nutcracker and Raymonda, English National Ballet will instead present Nutcracker Delights, continuing a tradition began in 1950.

Curve Leicester is re-opening from Mid November with runs of Concert versions of The Color Purple and Sunset Boulevard between then and the new year and then play Memoirs of an Asian Football Casual in Jan.

Arts at the Old Fire Station here in Oxford reopened to live theatre last week oldfirestation.org.uk/whats-on/Capacity is very limited 28 to 38 seats per show and only one show per day But it is a start |

ATG Theatres in Bristol, Manchester and Milton Keynes will be announcing on Wednesday some QDOS pantos for this year. Shorter runs and shorter running times than usual but still with an all star cast.
I’ve no idea of the casts yet though.

Oxford is moving to tier 2 and so Arts at the Old Fire Station have decided to close again. Even though they had everything needed already in place.

Frustrating That is voluntary though, as Tier 2 doesn't require any entertainment venue to close, people just have to attend in their households or bubbles. |

All work that cannot be done from home, so I don't see why they couldn't continue with appropriate distancing/social bubbles. There is no reason for rehearsals to be cancelled, but some producers may well use it as an excuse if they fear 2 December won't actually be the end of lockdown, or if they think fewer people will attend in December if they can open. Personally I would hope every producer opens something on 2 December so we can all have a bit of fun given the next month will be so bleak! |

Yes I think that from a business perspective it might be too risky to go ahead. A lot of shows were running at a loss anyway, the West End ones at least, so any further loss of income couldn't be justified. |

You'd have to be a very brave producer to continue to produce and promote an event for early December. March Lockdown was penned as "3 weeks" and lasted 3 months. I suspect this "4 week" lockdown is a minimum and likely to extend. |

A tough call for the Producers, do you continue to invest with a high risk of no return or throw in the towel until Spring/Summer next year.
A lot will depend on the contracts, personally would be surprised if a lot of the new shows announced over the last few weeks will now go ahead.
Will be interesting to see if the 6 shows booked for December how many will actually happen, fortunately since I went to the National last night instead of this coming Saturday only have one show impacted by the announced lockdown.

I love the commitment and hard work producers have invested into getting pantomimes off the ground this year, but I can't see them going ahead. The financial hit will presumably be too large.

Wouldn't it be marvellous if a couple push through just to get them filmed. Yes, I know its not the same, but I used to love the cheesy ITV panto years and years ago. So many kids/families don't get the chance to go and now it seems like a great opportunity to get that ball back rolling, bring panto home! |
