Apparently the script is in the early stages of development and Judy Cramer is hoping Meryl will return as she knows how much she enjoyed playing Donna.
I've said it many times and I'm gonna say it again- the storyline with take one of two directions; either a young Doona telling her mother that she's pregnant and Ruby kicking her out, or, it will focus on Donna's death- how she died and why, segueing into the song, Like An Angel Passing Through my Room.
I also predict this will include the songs, The Visitors, Under Attack and the Day before Your Came.
Possibly one or two songs from Voyage.
I also predict one or two new characters being introduced- possibly Sam's sons- just a thought.

So I'm hearing one of two things;
1. Donna has a twin sister, who will be played by Meryl Streep; or
2. The story will focus on how Ruby and Fernando Cienfuegos met, fell in and out of love.
Whatever they do, personally, I think we need to see Donna's death.
To bump off your female lead character without explanation, you're kinda robbing your audience of explanation.
(I've said it before and will continue to say it) if we see Donna's death, we can incorporate all of the younger cast members in the film we can incorporate the song 'Link an Angel Passing Through the Room'

I'm hearing rumblings. Looks like it's happening! #excited! Bizarrely, I am also excited, even though I thought MM2 was a blatant rehash of MM1, with Harry no longer seeming to be gay, and I hated Cher in it, she destabilised every scene she was in (yes I will tear up my pink card now). Both were fun, uplifting, and contained some memorable musical numbers -and I am old enough to grown up with the ABBA songs. They do need to progress the story though, IMO.
Sorry, but the Day Before You Came is one of the worst in the ABBA catalogue. It will be a challenge to integrate the remaining unused songs into the action. Most of the 'hits' have already been incorporated.

Filmwise, MM2 was so much better than MM1 , in terms of production values.
I thought the five younger cast members did an excellent job.
However whilst MM2 was better, for me there are still some gaping holes.
As previously mentioned, Donna's death. Why did she die? What did she die from?
And I want to see Ruby kicking Donna out when she announces her pregnancy.
(I've previously mentioned this) but when Ruby flies in on the helicopter, them not playing Arrival (on my opinion) was a missed opportunity.
Likewise earlier in the film where Sophie introduces Rosie and Tanya to Fernando Cienfuegos, they should have underscored Take of Your White Sombrero.
Unless they do it very carefully, they won't use The Day Before You Came, as the pace of it would slow down the up beat pace of the film.
I think they'll go back to some really early pieces, like Rock Me, or album songs that weren't singles.
Under Attack or The Visitors could be good choices, or one or two songs from the new Voyage albumn.

I’d just score the whole thing to the ‘Voulez Vous’ album but including b-sides (and call it) “Summer Night City”.

I actually liked the slightly less slick feel of the first film — with people's random tan lines, and Greek locals being used as extras. It really did feel like they were all living on the island together. (Don't disabuse me of this notion if the main cast were actually being helicoptered in each day!)
I love all the Lily James bits of the second film (Waterloo is a bit cringy, but in a way that makes me smile) but I hate Sophie's poncho and I don't think Cher added much. The scene in the church is lovely though, and a tear jerker. Andante, Andante works beautifully.
I think The Day Before You Came could work very well, but not sure for which character. Harry maybe? I agree you'd have to be careful not to bring the whole thing grinding to a halt with it though.

I think it assumes a level of ‘dumbing down’ to think that people would get bored by the hauntingly ace ‘TDBYC’. Yes it is long but it is a work of genius. There is still so much untapped brilliance left to use.

Well, Meryl might be busy making sequels over the next year or so as I have it on good authority that the DEVIL WEARS PRADA sequel has been green-lit and Meryl is onboard.
