This whole Roy/Murder thing will have people switching off in droves. It is cruel rather than thrilling and a total betrayal of these characters, and worse still, a shabby desecration of Hayleys memory. Let me know when it’s over please. (And the fact that ‘the only policewoman in Weatherfield’ is such a recurring character shows how badly they rely on crime to drive the show now.) I agree with this and I'm a life long fan of Corrie but it's lost its way completely. Also wasn't Craig training to be a detective? He just seems to be a Bobby on the beat these days.

alece10 there was a line a couple of months ago about his secondment (or whatever it’s called) coming to an end. The lady detective’s been bumped up to a regular as well so more expect more of the CSI Weatherfield stuff. I get that the ‘free Deirdre’ plot was huge but they really need to lay off sending the wrong person down, it’s beyond ridiculous now how often they do it.

There has been a suggestion it would be a good twist if Roy had actually killed Lauren or it was Daniel Osborne. They are casting DS Swain's teenage daughter apparently and she'll join her as a regular character. I've not heard if the daughter will be more Hope and Sam's age or older like Dylan and Liam etc.

Was that Gemma Wardle as Steve Macs tinder date in last nights Corrie? Forgot to watch the credits.

She was a ‘discovery’ for Eponine in the first tour of Les Mis that opened in Manchester. She has done West End stuff too.

I thought I recognised her but didn't notice her name. The girl who was attracted to Tim I recognised and was looking for her name she was in Fame Academy - Pippa Fulton.
I can remember Gemma in Les Mis Birmingham summer 1997. There was another Gemma - Gemma Sandy I think playing Cosette. Never really heard of her in much after that.
The Corrie humour is still there with scenes like that group date.

The storyline is entirely undeserving of the BGT week treatment but last night’s episode was actually pretty decent. An improvement on Monday’s, which was the first of several ‘same day, different perspective’ episodes this week.
It’s going through a very rough patch and has been for years to be honest. I think fans like me are clinging to the hope that the new producer will be able to turn think around for a creatively point of view, although we won’t see her work on screen for a few months yet.

I didn't know a new Producer was coming in but I'm pleased the current one is leaving as I haven't enjoyed the current storylines with far too much of people being in prison and stories finishing suddenly.
At least we do get some humour from Steve, Sally, Evelyn etc and Sam and Hope are amazing young characters.

The highlight in recent weeks was Sally at the dinner party. Criminally underused.
The new producer will be under the guidance of MacLeod as EP but I’m hopeful his role won’t encroach too much on storylining.
The first thing I’d do is demolish the police station and hospital sets and tell my storyliners any prison or mortal peril storylines need to be justified editorially and financially!
A big issue has been the fact Classic Corrie running on ITV3 has been so good.

It doesn't attract a young audience so needs to go back to its roots and bring in strong female characters and more comedy. It's what the older audience (myself included and a lifetime fan of Corrie) want. Think Bet Lynch, Raquel, Jack and Vera, Norris, Fred, Cilla. And, of course, Blanche.

What are peoples thoughts on what happened to Lauren? I don’t trust DeeDee’s fella Joel. He has come in and done so little which is a classic whodunnit/horror film play…they disappear for the middle third only to reappear as the villain at the end? Stayed close to the situation throughout through DeeDee? Thoughts?

They did a good smokescreen and twist with the murderer listed in previews for next week's episodes. Just wanted Hope to say to him "I know you did it".

Gail is leaving after 50 years. I'm gutted. Hopefully one last fight with Eileen on the cobbles before she goes off to live with Mavis.

I was surprised by the news too. But to be fair they don’t really give her much to do any more, mostly just written like a daft old woman that’s always the butt of the joke, then disappears for months at a time.
I saw the producer on the news talking about how she’d been at the centre of many of his favourite stories. You wouldn’t know it from watching. Off the top of my head I can’t think of her having a proper storyline of her own since Les Dennis. Even Gail’s dad dying was treated like a joke.
And it’s such a shame because that monologue after Aidan’s suicide really was great. As was the scene of her and Eileen meeting at the tribute to the Manchester bomb victims.

Just seen Lorna (Aggie Bailey) Laidlaw’s been cast in The Good Ship Murder on Channel 5. Hasn’t appeared on Corrie since last June. I thought I’d read she was ill in real life but apparently not. Weird.

I’ve never watched Coronation Street but I loved Lorna Laidlaw in Doctors, so I really hope she comes back before it ends. (I know they’ve already finished filming, but she could’ve already filmed scenes).

She was easily the strongest Bailey (until Dee-Dee arrived). The whole handling of her departure from the show was peculiar to say the least.
I enjoyed the reveal of Swain’s daughter Betsy this evening. She looks to have been well cast already.
It’s still in a pretty bad malaise overall but hoping to see the new producer’s work coming through soon. I find it odd that she has yet to do any media interviews about her plans for the show though…
