What next for Lynette Linton, is what I want to know. The Old Vic after Matthew Warchus goes?

Lynette Linton seems to doing a lot of directing outside of the Bush with Barcelona, Intimate Apparel and Alterations so I wonder if running a building is not in her current plans.

I wonder if Daniel Bailey might be lined up for Stratford East, he leaves the Bush in January and Nadia Fall leaves Stratford East in December and joins the Young Vic in January so it would work timeline wise.

I suspect freelancing as there's isn't an obvious big job free and maybe Daniel Bailey will be an Associate somewhere? RSC or National at a guess. She might also take an Associate job somewhere big. Gives more flexibility so they can also do commercial shows and films.

I think his successor starts earlier so probably their new season will be September 2026 as well.

I'm expecting Matthew Xia will become the AD at Stratford East. He came up through their youth theatre, he was an Associate Director there before heading up ATC, and his production of 'Tambo and Bones' returns there for a fortnight next Spring.

Supposed to be announced this week.
Gossip is that Rupert Goold is making a heavy play for the Old Vic.
I'd be surprised if Lynette Linton takes over another building, she was never at the Bush because she was always directing elsewhere. A bigger building or one with a stronger board wouldn't let her get away with quite such high absence rates.

Goold would be a sad loss to the Almeida but he has been there since 2013 so he might fancy a new challenge. The cynic in me suggests this is why they have just put up the price of Friends Plus membership but offer a discount if one renewed early....

I'm surprised Goold would want to run the Old Vic, not exactly a stretch from being at the Almeida and also I would have thought he'd want to set up his own production company. If Goold did leave the Almeida for the Old Vic, would Rebecca Frecknall be a shoo in for the AD role?

Honestly not sure if she'd be interested - with Broadway, West End and Europe having been opened up to her, she does strike me as more of a freelancer. However, she'd make an excellent boss, both continuing Goold's work and pushing forwards. Plus, she has a handy knack for attracting stars. Linton is a shoe-in for a future big role, I think - OV would make sense, the NT would suit her nicely eventually, or perhaps somewhere else entirely. But for now, I agree: she too should freelance for a while first. She may well travel with Bailey too - their dual announcement implied a continued relationship.

Quite a jump from a 64 seat Fringe theatre to a theatre seven times bigger in capacity. She was also a Creative Associate at Eleanor Lloyd Productions.

David Byrne made the jump from a theatre with a similar number of seats at the New Diorama recently and that's not exactly working out badly. I think it's an exciting appointment by Stratford East, looking forward to seeing her programming.

I wish her well though. Stratford East is a tough venue - awkward location, large capacity but limited in-built audience.

I shall certainly miss JB at Leeds - his musicals have been excellent over recent years.
