Speaking of twitter and stage door reminded me of something at guys and dolls tour recently. Louise Dearman had Tweeted saying she was very sorry but she wasn't coming out between shows as she had interviews to do, her lunch to eat etc. What followed was one fan bombarded her with tweets saying how she had travelled an hour to see her, she was so upset and crying and really wanted to see her. To the extent that Louise felt she needed to go out and see her for five minutes as she sounded like she was having some kind of breakdown. She was not in watching the show and had met her two days earlier! That is overstepping the mark of what is acceptable in my opinion. This is terrible. I hate that some actors feel the need to tweet that they're not coming out the stage door at all, but this is too much. P.S. An hour?! Like that's a lot! |

I went past the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang stage door last night in Newcastle and there were about fifty or so teenage girls there from the Carrie Hope Fletcher fan club. All, that I could see, waiting their turn, being polite and respectful, with maybe a little squeel of delight with their friends after they had met her. It was all quite sweet! I'm sure Carrie would've lectured us if they hadn't conformed to her definition of respect. I can only imagine what would've happened if no one turned up. |

I got touched by his Tuttle once...(hehe couldn't resist) didn't ever get the 1:1 though alas.
I used to stage door a lot as a teen, oddly I did it more on trips to NY because then it was still a bit more common there than in London. A few encounters with scary-fans over the years have slowly erroded my enthusiasm though. And now as an official Old Person I feel a bit odd- though occasionally still do it, though can't actually remember the last time I did!

Won't go into detail (I don't discuss Punchdrunk 1:1s in public) but it involved a weird ritual with lots of fake blood in a dark room and Mateo doing a handstand. |

Hey guys, I'm new here!
I haven't seen a show more than 10 times (yet), but I consider myself a superfan. I live in Spain and I travel at least twice a year to London, just to see theatre. I spend there 7-10 days, going to the theatre every evening (and every possible matinee).
So far:
Book of Mormon: 9 times
Les Miz: 7 times
Wicked: 5 times
Matilda: 4 times
Phantom: 3 times
Memphis: 3 times
And a few other shows that I've only seen once or twice.
My next visit to the West End will be 28th August-7th September. Already got tickets for Into the Woods, Wicked (Rachel Tucker's "first" performance) and In the Heights. Any recommendation? I really wanna see Funny Girl and the Bank Robbery play.

You sound like someone who is breaking into theatre, my tip and I did this, just sit back and enjoy the ride sometimes it can be bumpy, on the odd occasion you think you are going to crash, but most of the time it is nice and smooth, so enjoy!

Tip for Carrie. Send a tweet knocking the whole stagedoor thing on the head. Here, I'll help:
"Hi guys, I won't be stagedooring for the rest of this run and the foreseeable future. Please do not wait after the show and especially don't travel to see me, it will be a wasted trip"
Then stick to it until it calms down. Or forever.

Look. I've never seen her in anything and I've disagreed with her on Twitter over the whole Laura Benanti thing, but of course the things she lists are completely unacceptable.
I do wonder why she has so many OTT fans? I'm sure she's perfectly talented but what has made her stand out from other actresses like her? She should maybe look at her social media presence and tone it down, if not delete them altogether. (She shouldn't have to but that's how it is nowadays.)
(I'm sure it's a theatrical thing us mere mortals are not privy to, but every time she said 'stage door' without the definite article before it, I shivered. I accept it as a verb but I draw the line at this. Haha.)

It's possible that her experiences are common to many actresses, and they just haven't talked about it publicly. That is very often the case with other types of boundary-overstepping behaviour. People commiserate and share their stories in private but rarely talk about it publicly. |
