If I'm honest I don't have THAT much of a problem with the old school touts- selling a few tickets a week for inflated prices, standing outside theatres/gigs part of me says 'well good luck to ya' because also they aren't (even cumulatively) going to bring about the downfall of theatre/entertainment. It's not right, but they also don't prevent masses of people getting tickets either.
So if a few guys and gals can manage to score a handful of Hamilton tickets and are doing a trade outside the door they aren't the real threat the theatres should be/are focused on anyway.
Meanwhile the 21st century tout that buys up 100s of tickets in one blow, and then is responsible for half (more?) a show being resale tickets, that's the issue.

Yeah I agree. I'd also prefer to have the option of selling my tickets if something comes up and I'm no longer able to attend.

I had the exact issue with Hamilton, which I was unable to travel for (after booking a year in advance) And because I was an international person I couldn't do a resale through ticketmaster, when all I wanted was a recoup of my original. Because of the lack of 'legit' means to simply put up for resale, I ended up going via stubhub something and so contributing to the problem albeit in a tiny tiny way.

Yep the same happened to me. I knew I wanted to go the first show after the Tonys but they changed the date of the Tonys so I had to sell and rebuy. Don't feel too guilty though as I was charging just over face value for a second row ticket at a time when they were going for $1000 each on StubHub. Think I must have made someone's day really haha.

Same! I charged enough to cover the fees my credit card put on for 'international transactions' and the ticketmaster booking fees, and the chunk taken by stubhub, so I clearly made someone's day too!
And similarly dates just changed for me travel wise and there was nothing I could do.

Has anyone received their email about the presale yet starting on Monday? I'm assuming they must be sending out some kind of email with a link for the presale soon

Cameron Mackintosh has just been on the One Show and says he plans to unveil how they will deal with ticket touts in the next few days and described it as revolutionary for London

I wish they'd just send the information out now. Surely they know and it's obviously gonna be a somewhat intense ticket-buying process so the longer we have to prepare the better.

Don't be obtuse guys. Figuring out when previews start, how much tickets will be, how many tickets one person is able to buy at a time, when the booking period lasts until, how this 'ticketless' thing will work, if there's gonna be a queue system ala Harry Potter etc. etc. etc. All of this stuff means you need to prepare money, time and plans, which is why they're sending the information out beforehand and it's not just a quick click on a link the morning of.

I guess the start date is dependent on how the refurbishment of the theatre goes. I guess when they have a firm idea, it will be finished on a given date, they can start selling the show.

Yet theyre putting tickets on sale next week as far as we know via the pre sale. Therefore they must have a date for the first show they will put on sale

Will they be holding back tickets for when general sale starts, do we think?

Will they be holding back tickets for when general sale starts, do we think? I would guess so. Normal presales put anything up to 50% of tickets on sale so there should be 2 bites of the cherry. It tends to be a range of seats across price bands too so not always the best selection.

Yes, but my point was that it will make no difference as to whether the information is sent out now, or at the end of the week. It's already been announced that it will be sent out of the next few days, so it will make no difference

Will they be holding back tickets for when general sale starts, do we think? I think rather than a 50/50 split we will see a similar situation to Cursed Child...the presale will have 100% of the available tickets for a limited run of, say, 4-6 months. Then, come general sale on the 30th, they'll release a further 6 months, taking booking up to about a year in advance, then released a further 3 or so months, every 3 months or so. I think they'll try and release enough tickets so that the majority on the presale get in (though there'll always be some who miss out), this should hopefully take some of the pressure off the general sale a few weeks later.

Brill if so. Me and my friends are trying to work out a ticket buying strategy, but as one of them will be at work when the presale starts, and one is currently in Canada, I feel as if it's going to be a stressful time! Pity we don't know how much price bands will be though.

Pity we don't know how much price bands will be though. I think Cameron said tickets would be £85, £55 and £35 with premiums as well at £125, £150 and £200. I think pricing will be similar to Mormon in only having those 3 price brackets (plus the premiums)

I think pricing will be similar to Mormon in only having those 3 price brackets (plus the premiums) I think the question is the number of seats in each price bracket. I can very well see the entire Stalls and the front Dress Circle being sold at premium prices. Rest of the Circle and front of Grand Circle then £85 and most of the Grand Circle at £55 with a few £35 seats at the very back of the Grand Circle.

This could of course have changed but Cam Mack previously said a third of seats would be £55 or less. So I'm expecting the very back/sides of the Stalls and most of the Upper to be £55, a handful of £35 right at the top, entire dress and most of the Stalls £85/premium
