Everyone… EVERYONE…. Has been booted out except Elton John. This is an entirely new UK based team with Jerry M directing. Shame as he was also one of the problems lol I hope he's actually worked on it again, but I somehow have doubts lol

Must be an awkward conversation for the creatives and producers to have with Sir Elton John though. “Er, the thing is your previous work wasn’t… I mean, well it was great darling but… umm…”.
It was a part of what went wrong at Spider-Man, nobody called out U2 for their music being rank and desperately needing rewrites. Glenn Berger talks about this in his brilliant book.

I think as well that U2 weren’t at all interested in rewriting their music so that’s a problem

I think in order to cover up the fact that he can’t really sing the songs any more he just exaggerated the vocal mannerisms we all associate with Elton and ended up sounding like a very poor tribute act. YAASSSSS we finally agree on something I paid $400 to see him Vegas a few years back and his voice was so terrible I would've left if I didn't waste so much money on it. He was equally as terrible at Glastonbury, but at least he could move there, he could barely walk in Vegas.

The whole show is being rewritten… songs and all. Everything was chucked out after the disaster of Chicago The only time I've seen a show completely redeveloped was Finding Neverland which replaced the entire creative team after the Curve production.

Elton’s AIDA also cleaned house after its Atlanta tryout although he didn’t rewrite the entire score. That said, there were a ton of musical changes and it was vastly reorchestrated.
Let’s hope DWP has similar luck in its revision.

There’s a TikTok vlogger (who is usually quite accurate when it comes to Broadway tea) who is saying this is booked into Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre next summer? I’d be surprised to see it there but as I said, he’s usually quite accurate when it comes to Broadway details…

That would be a bit of a surprise, and disappointing. It's a show that will need a good level of production values, especially in the costume department. One of the big criticism of the Chicago production was the lack of a high fashion feel.
Unless if it's being classed as a try out more for the material itself before a larger production is mounted. I guess it would also fit with maybe Mrs doubtfire closing after a year or so.

I presume Barbican next year as part of the Trafalgar Partnership that’s just been announced. Trafalgar aren't one of the producers plus it wouldn't be an out of town tryout if it's in London.

Can definitely see this following the same trajectory of & Juliet and Mrs. Doubtfire.

I'd be shocked if its anywhere other than the shaftsbury in London as it was mentioned alongside Mrs Doubtfire when the Jamie Wilson partnership was announced

I’m more intrigued by an out of town try-out location that isn’t ‘Manchester gets it first’. Maybe it’ll be at Watford Coliseum to really sell that Elton link, or does Pinner have a theatre? 😁

Well there's only a few places that usually take try outs so that narrows it down a bit. Manchester is the main one but Cardiff has had some....Leicester has had some.....Bristol has had some....Bath has had some.....

I guess he has a relationship with Curve after their Billy Elliot. That might be a good shout.

A reminder from the Chicago production. It wasn’t an awful show by any means, but it certainly didn’t fulfil its potential

trading on a back catalogue that he could barely sing was just not for me. Yes there was a massive amount of nostalgia and yes they are magnificent compositions, but as a performance I did not enjoy it. You’d rather be only perform new music? That would definitely make you the minority. 😉 Of course he doesn’t sound like he did when he was 20 to 25 years old. It’s been 50 years - no-one’s voice is the same in their mid-70s as their md-20s. They are ‘magnificent compositions’ performed by the original artist at the end of his touring career. If you can’t appreciate how he has adapted and reinterpreted them at this point in his live career then you won’t enjoy it. But most people can. And his piano playing is still fabulous. Anyway, back to Prada…

Elton? He’s re-writing the score! Blimey. Pleasantly surprised by that It’s not like Elton is new at this - he know that musicals need to be re-written and re-worked. It’s happened with his other shows and as a veteran live performer he is fully aware that you need an audience to see something to know if it has worked. It’s one of the reasons that he only did one show with Bernie Taupin - Bernie hated the re-writing process on Lestat. Couldn’t stand it.
