To me, this is better casting than the original revival cast. Can’t wait.

I thought this was fab. Groban can really do it, i previously thought he was a just mattine idol but im very happily worng. Ashford was a bit too comedic at points but i did love her interpretation. The choreographed chorus was inspired, like a dangerously fast flowing river

Is Joe Locke well known in the states? I know Heartstopper was shown around the world but don't have any idea if it was popular over there. Have a feeling he will be excellent in Sweeney.

He's the 'male lead' in a forthcoming Marvel TV series which has already had some (very early) pre-publicity in the US - and Heartstopper is very popular there (amongst a specific demographic, etc, etc...). I don't know much about Sweeney Todd, but I'm told this is a relatively small, almost 'cameo' role?

Tobias isn't a cameo role. Supporting. But not cameo.
Pirelli is a cameo part. So too, arguably, Beadle.

Have heard some clips and gosh that boy can sing! Raw talent. No doubt we will see him in more musicals to come.

A lot of the Heartstopper cast are theatre grads too which would make great publicity for a few shows on the west end … I’m still thinking about Sweeney though! I’d love to see it again, it was fantastic. The lighting design with the crane and also during Act 2 where the lights scan the audience from left to right was so haunting and brilliantly done

If Charles Dickens or Prince Albert stopped by Sweeney's for a shave that would be a cameo role. The Beadle and Pirelli are both vital to the plot, so definitely not cameos.

I've seen a few clips online from the show and heard some audio. Doesn't seem like ushers are on the ball (difficult with audio I know). Are they stricter in the West End then Broadway? Also saw a clip just now of Aaron making his entrance and you completely miss his opening words due to the, literally, screaming and cheering that went on for several seconds. God that would so annoy me.

I loved Aaron but yeah - the screaming. I think it’s past time for theaters to include “and no SCREAMING” during their pre-show announcements.

There just needs to be a total cultural shift in what’s now considered acceptable theatre behavior.

There's a two bar vamp that can be repeated at the start of "The Worst Pies in London" added to give time for the audience to react to Angela Lansbury's first entrance before she launched into "aah customer!" so it's not a new phenomenon. However, audiences, particularly American audiences, seem to get hysterical at the slightest thing nowadays and it's nothing to do with the performer and all about the screamers desperate for attention.

Bet the producers are kicking themselves that they didn't wait to do a cast recording. I'd much prefer an Aaron, Sutton, Joe recording.
I saw a lovely interview just now with Joe Locke on American TV. He talks about making Patti LuPone stage door with him and her saying that no one would know who she was and then people screaming out Patti's name. He also said she is now one of his best friends. How sweet. It also talks about the fact that 2 years ago he was a schoolboy on the Isle Of Mann and now he is known around the world and on Broadway.

Perhaps they could add some bonus tracks to a re-release like they have on other cast recordings.

Saw this on Saturday - the single most expensive theatre ticket I have bought in my life - and oh, wow, it was totally worth it!
I know there's been complaints about Aaron's singing, and Sutton's accent, but they're a couple of weeks into it now, and I honestly thought both of those things were fine. Also, Aaron's acting was great, and the two of them played into the humour at times in a way that really worked to lighten the mood of what could otherwise be very, very depressing. Sutton in particular has some very funny 'business' in act two. She's also quite definitely channeling Angela Lansbury at certain moments!
Overall the whole thing was more operatic than I had been expecting (I saw Merrily on the Thursday before, and that was stylistically very different). Some of the high notes were very high, but no-one seemed to be struggling.
And so, to Joe Locke as Tobias. Who for some reason is getting death threats and stalkers sending him cakes that the stage door security team have to throw out (yes, seriously - I spoke to them and they were very open about how much hate a **twenty-year old**, who is just trying to do his job and build his career is being subject to. They also check his post, and throw out most of it, for similar reasons). His performance is so good! I have always maintained that he'd be able to do the singing, but he does it whilst emoting so well, and being man-handled around the stage in what sometimes look like very awkward ways - I'm not sure I'd be able to speak, let alone sing at the same time!
The whole production is so well put together, from the choreography, and the way the leads and supporting roles have chosen to develop their characters, to the set, which is 'simple', but so well done, and very effective in the huge barn of a space that is the Lunt-Fontanne stage.
I also wish that they'd do a recording of this cast, but alas, as we move into what are almost certainly the final months of the show, some of the company are already moving on - and I do think it's the whole cast which makes this work as a production.
If you are local, and can get a ticket, then do so - AIUI, earlier in the week is cheaper. Front Mezzanine has excellent views!

...how much hate a **twenty-year old**, who is just trying to do his job and build his career is being subject to. Why is that, may I ask? Joe has been the victim of pretty intense online hate for years now. For some reason his casting in Sweeney seemed to push some of the worst trolls to escalate, throughout January they were spamming Twitter and Instagram with petitions to get him fired and threats to come to the theater and attack him, complete with hate speech, doctored photos, all very disturbing, probably hundreds if not thousands of tweets. Very sad to hear they’re still at it and have potentially been sending things directly to the theater. The Lunt-Fontanne’s security have apparently been speaking about this a lot and repeatedly telling people Joe won’t stage door because he’s feeling so anxious.
