Maybe a prequel to the prequel?

Money, dear. Money! Universal need to make more of it. Grace’s scoops often end up being from rather well-informed sources.

I'd guess they'd split it like the show. Movie 1 focusing on how she becomes wicked and movie 2 what happens after.
Big mistake though I think as it will kill the momentum and the story isn't exactly that in depth in the first place to need to be told over 4 to 5 hours.
I know wicked is a major brand, but the last Oz film was a box office disappointment for Disney so I wouldn't say its a guaranteed hit if they dont get it right

I'm going to be one of those people who say they know stuff about something, but can't say anything until its announced...
But what i can tell you, is that a close family memeber is working on it now!
And the next Disney live action remake, also starting production in January, is going to be Snow White and the Seven...Miners.

If they made a sort of mash-up of the book and musical they could maybe fill two movies but otherwise there’s barely enough for one. Act one of ‘Wicked’ drags a bit for me and could be a good 15 minutes shorter; not a lot happens over an extended period of time then BAM! ‘Defying Gravity’ Curtain. Most of the narrative drive comes in act two and could easily be stretched out, hiding out in the castle, being hunted etc. That could be epic.

Isn’t it discriminatory to not give them the work?

Turning it into a two parter I think would be an inspired decision. When you plot the story out, there is a large amount of content that isn’t presented on stage that we probably do need to see on screen.
In act two we are only told Elphaba is evil, and there’s next to no development of her into the Wicked Witch. Then there is the Dorothy issue - you cannot make Wicked without Dorothy’s story: she can’t turn up in the last ten minutes and throw a bucket of water and ‘kill’ our hero.
So assuming Part One ends with Defying Gravity, Part Two then has to be the story of what happens next. Thinking on it and as controversial as this might sound, they could scrap most of act two and replace it with an (almost) brand new movie musical.
Having two movies allows them to make Elphaba the lead character of Part One, but Glinda the lead of Part Two. This means we get to see the second half of the story through Glinda’s eyes, watching Elphaba be ‘The Wicked Witch of The West’, bridging the gap between stage acts perfectly.
We would get to see Glinda be part of the the Wizard’s government, watch Fiyero search for Elphaba and actually fall in love with her, before making a big public decision to leave with her. This angle then then solves the Dorothy conundrum too, as it allows us to see her story unfold through the eyes of Glinda and the Scarecrow.
When Glinda finally unravels the lies she has been fed and realises her role in a murder plot, we finally get to see her reunite with Elphaba... but realise the only way of overthrowing the Wizard and saving Oz is to let Dorothy commit murder.
So yes, I think two parts really would work well.

Sure, why not. Good for them. Just want the movies to be good. Got West Side Story coming up and I'm salivating at the thought.

Just the one film is fine by me, thanks. We don’t need it messing about with. Do it once, do it well, move on.

Isn't Ali Stroker the obvious choice?

Isn't Ali Stroker the obvious choice? If they don’t go with Tony Award winner Ali Stroker, they are foolish and missing the boat.

As great as Ali is, she's not the only disabled actress and it would be nice to see others get opportunities too, rather than cast the same woman in every theatre related role where the character uses a wheelchair.

Won't there be an issue for that actress when Nessa needs to stand up and sing her brief Act 2 number?

Won't there be an issue for that actress when Nessa needs to stand up and sing her brief Act 2 number? Many wheelchair users are ambulatory and would be able to stand for that scene. But considering they're going to be using movie magic to make a woman fly, I don't think Nessa standing would be a barrier to casting a wheelchair user who wasn't ambulatory.

If Kiera Allen can sing I think she’d be the perfect choice.

Whoever it was that suggested Wicked should be done in 2 parts, you are in luck. They are making 2 films and filming them back to back.
No idea about the plot or anything else yet.

Where are you seeing that? I can't see it, if Les Mis can do a one part 'standard' movie then I'm amazed if Wicked couldn't. As it stands on stage act 1 is 90 minutes (reasonable length for a film) and act 2 is 55 minutes (far too short). 2hrs 25mins isn't too long for a movie, and you often find they get squeezed from a stage production. Unless they add in new plot lines left right and centre I can't see how this could realistically be two parts.. I'm also not convinced financially it'll be beneficial to do two parts. It'll put a fair few people off going to either part, I'd have thought?

Someone i know is working on the film. Of course that might change between now and when filming starts later next year, but i doubt it, given the length of the contracts.
Why do you think it will put people off going if there are 2 films?

It would put me off. I’ve barely got the attention span for one Wicked film let alone two. The story doesn’t merit it, surely?

Why do you think it will put people off going if there are 2 films? It's always a risk. If the first one is rubbish people won't bother going to the second. They'll have to either pull material from the books (which are very different to the show) or come up with some new material, which either way means the only significant resemblance to the stage show will probably be the score. That may not be enough for some fans.
