It’s not really a singing role though is it? I think it’s an odd choice to cast a great singer like HW unless they’re “Sexing up” the part god forbid. Miriam Margoyles did it back in the day I think potentially has more movie recognition than Hannah but really you want a big name character actress surely?

Yes, yes I've previously read this somewhere (probably on here somewhere) but you have to admit, this final scenes in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and "My Love, My Life" would not have had the emotional impact that it did, if she'd not returned. |

Also, having just read the article... how many people go to the cinema on Christmas Day? How many cinemas are actually open? Christmas day here in the uk is the only day cinemas are shut. Though in recent years, some have been opening on Xmas Day. I’m aware of some Odeons that have. |

And as for her profile, Ted Lasso seems to be huge in the US, she won an Emmy last year and has just been nominated again. She's a bigger name over there than Margoyles would be I think. |

Definitely isn't Harry Styles - they certainly asked.
The casting is running really behind. They are due to start filming next month yes but are having real problems

I think H has missed the boat ‘receding hairline’ wise, but I wouldn’t bet against Ansel Elgort or Shawn Mendes. Obviously Ansel has a whiff so…

Can somewhat corroborate this, idle work gossip but a friend from work asked someone in the canteen what they were up to and the guy apparently said he was standing in for rehearsals. Apparently when she tried to be nosy and ask about casting, he said "There isn't one," I thought that might mean that the actor for Fiyero hasn't arrived yet or something along those lines.
Pinch of salt for water cooler gossip I suppose but there were at least casting rumors for Elphaba/Glinda, all's quiet on the Fiyero front.

I genuinely thought this would be easy to cast as everybody and their dog would put their names in the mix for every role.
There’s an abundance of stage actors who can and should do these roles, Hannah Waddingham even said so herself in her Emmy speech. If the celebs aren’t knocking the door down then cast people who will sing, act and dance the sh*t out of the songs.

It's a Hollywood film though - as much as we want them to cast stage actors, they're not gonna cast Sophie Louise Damn over Meryl Streep or whatever - Les Mis movie made the money because of the cast, In The Heights didn't (admit it's a less of a title but not a single recognisable face in the cast to people who didn't already know what ITH was)
They may do a Sam Barks and cast someone as Boq or Nessa who's done it on stage, but otherwise this is names to the max. 2 films don't forget, that's a LOT of money to make back.

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Hannah, as I simply asked a contact and good source of prior stuff I’ve shared on here. They said it was confirmed. This person previously told me about Lucy St Louis for Christine and a few other tidbits.
But as always with sources, the stories don’t always come off for a variety of reasons. Apologies if this turns out to be untrue!
