This is it. It’s official. Initially Playbill leaked the news early then took it down, now it’s already confirmed.
Cinderella West End at least lasted almost a year (though there were hiccups including Miss Rona still spreading throughout Christmas season and so there were no shows, and ALW trying to retool the show again)…
Just so sad for the cast and crew. They deserve better.
Meanwhile, the musical book’s writer Emerald Fennell is still radio silent. She has an upcoming film, Saltburn, that could be scheduled for the Venice Film Festival should it be submitted and accepted there this fall. The media circuit begins again…

The cast and crew knew what they were getting into. They had to have been aware of how it was received in London and everything else that happened.
Yes, they were clearly promised rewrites and a better version. But there is always a limit to what rewrites can achieve.
No one wants a show to fail, but this has to be one of the least unexpected fails

I have been a huge ALW fan since my childhood. He in my opinion has written some of the best musicals ever and indeed has written some of the best songs. Even some of the songs in Bad Cinderella are excellent but the whole idea, book, look and message of the show was a mess from the beginning. I don’t know why they didn’t see that from the workshop at The Other Palace in 2019/20 when they staged the industry performance.
I hated the London production but inside, somewhere, with a completely written story, half a new score, and a new BOOK - Bad Cinderella could and should be a good show. Without half the score being thrown out, it will always sadly be BAD. That and a weak story that actually makes no sense.
This belongs to fly into the memories of musicals like Stephen Ward.
Now what is Andrew’s next show?!!

Stephen Ward was flawed but I still listen to the CD from time to time.
I have yet to manage to listen to the Cinderella recording all the way through

I can only hope ALW learns his lesson, and never focuses on making theatre for "the theatre kids" again. Much better to make a solid show that anyone can enjoy.

I’m going to the ball! Me too. My favourite new musical since the Coronavirus (by a mile!) Also hoping to get over to NYC in the next three weeks for one final hurrah 👌🏻🤩😍✌🏻!

Personally I hope he continues to write whatever interests/inspires him as that generally leads to his best melodies. Also the musical before Cinderella was aimed even more at “the theatre kids” and that did ok so IDK 🤷🏻♂️

It's no big surprise. Would love a cast recording, if only to hear if the score sounds better with an actual orchestra playing it. Not going to happen now.
Am I right in thinking that, after this closes, it'll be the first time since Evita's Broadway opening in 1979 that ALW will have nothing playing on Broadway? If so, that truly is the end of a very long era. Feels quite sad in a way, although 'he's had a good run, I'm sure he enjoyed it.'

Don't know if this is true or not,but could be a case of history repeating itself...

Why would you inform the press before you tell the company? Even if they asked them not to publish immediately, it's not like it was any kind of positive news. There was absolutely no need to tell the press anything until all those involved were informed. Shocking misstep but it's been one thing after another with this show.

At least this time we didn’t have a disembodied ALW coming over a loudspeaker telling everyone they work in customer service.

“Learns his lesson” lol, he isn’t two and a half! Excellent point. He's not that young anymore and perhaps he needs trusted collaborators who can help him bring his talents to bear on works that will have strong appeal for current audiences.

Thanks for posting. I’ll really miss this show! Great fun and an amazing score IMHO After the bashing it’s had do wonder if it will ever come back in any form ever again…. Certainly not with the Broadway version’s production values and 20 odd piece orchestra I expect.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing it, because - I can't be the only one who can hear this? That 'everything wrong seems right' was a mess...and this is an official clip, which someone listened to and thought 'yeah, let's make that public' - and it's Broadway?

Final performance today. I do feel for the cast/crew. So much hype and just seems to have been over in a flash.
