I am a little disappointed for Gabriela Tylesova. I think she's an inventive, unique, maximalist designer and I was hoping she'd be acknowledged. Honestly, the production designer has to go with the brief they're given and if the overall concept clashed with judging panel expectations of what a Cinderella could or should be, not unexpected. Michael Crawford long ago told me that the Tony nominations are very political in New York, and there's resistance to some productions that originate elsewhere. I think Marianne Elliott is on the good side of the theatre community in NY, whereas ALW has made a lot of money for American partners, but if Cinders is not a good show, is this really a surprise? Had some friends see "Some Like it Hot" last week, and they loved it but refused to waste any money on Bad Cinderella.

Thinking about "caring" about awards I really don't - it's all highly subjective and vast majority of my fave shows from the big (Starlight, Aspects, Chess, Bat) to the smaller (the iconic Moby Dick at The Piccadilly) have been fully snubbed over the years! So I am 100% used to my taste not being the same as the awards bodies.
What I DO care about though, is that in America particularly they seem to hold power to change shows sales for better or for worse (am glad that in the UK this is much less the case). I therefore kinda think they have a responsibility to be fair.
Forgetting the question of are they biased against ALW (I think they are FWIW) it is very common to see awards bodies deciding whether they like something or not and then the same shows getting nominated for everything or nothing. For example if you are nominated for best musical, there is then a far higher chance of you being nominated for best sound, lighting, set etc etc than if you aren't. I don't feel as if all the categories are judged in their own right (I guess you may say that is a good thing, theatre is a whole and when it comes together is greater than the sum of it's parts).
Returning to Bad Cinderella, when I was over there I went thrice on one weekend (don't @ me lol) sitting a combination of centre/side, near/far, high/low and the sound was pristine in every spot of the theatre. I mean God knows how they decide on sound design noms but it's worthy. The lighting design is gorgeous as is the set design - entirely subjective I guess - but combined with the costumes it looks great IMHO. Compared to some of the minimalist stuff that has got noms.....
So yes, whilst I don't care per-se, I do find it slightly unfair that this across the board snub will hasten it's demise whereas a couple of noms could have boosted it a bit.
Finally Carolee and Grace are stunning but they spar off each other - wouldn't have wanted to see one nominated without the other. And I guess in a crowded field they were never both gonna appear.
There are some vague rumours about stunt casting. Either that or the closing announcement will surely come very soon!

Bad Cinderella has been “snubbed” at the Tonys in the same way I was “snubbed” in the New Year Honours List! 🤣

I find it amusing that people want this to be filmed and released, the chances of it happening are zilch.

Honestly they've lost credibility and relevance at this point. I remember when Sunset revived a few years ago and it also received 0 nominations, which was ridiculous. I can see some of the snubs, but surely some of the performers/performances; set, lighting design deserved some recognition. And sorry/not sorry - I haven't seen the show, but still enjoy the score that ALW could've at least been acknowledged. I for one hope they do film it. If they did By Jeeves, why not? You’ve not seen the show but the Tony Awards have lost credibility? That seems like a well informed opinion… Didn't realize the snark factor had infected this board as badly as others... If you read the second sentence it helps explain the point of the first. That's usually how paragraphs work. I havent seen Bad Cinderella and wasn't saying it deserved a slew of nominations. But from what I've seen and heard, there were some obvious creatives involved that should have been recognized

Well...the dress is pretty?
I'm genuinely puzzled as to how this is a Broadway performance. She's literally gasping for breath halfway through a sentence.

I know I have a heart was the best part of the London production. They´ve ruined it completely with this new orchestration.

Is the alternate Cinderella any stronger than Linedy vocally? Assuming they have one? That's not the most flattering clip of her.

Why, oh, why couldn't they stream the whole show like this? Or at least the whole Act 2? They certainly seem to have the technology.

Last week's grosses were abysmal. I don't think this will sell tickets either; they should have streamed one of the songs that are real fun and make this version of Cinderella different from others. On a personal note: Why is nobody telling Jordan Dobson to shave? He looks like he was fished from the gutter, not at all princely. Ivano Turco at least was utterly dreamy, so we could kind of root for Sebastian if not for Cindy herself.

At least they’ve not put Linedy in that godawful ball gown and crooked wig that CHF had to wear.

Y'all, is all that pseudo enthusiasm and horrific gushing supposed to convince us they're literally having the best time EVAH? Clearly they all hate each other and can't wait to move on. Post the closing notice now, for their sakes as much as ours!

"It's almost like we're doing a high school musical..." (realises error instantly and attempts to correct, too late)
Funny he should say that, I actually think this would do a roaring trade out for amateur rights. Any amateur company can summon up the cast for this fairly easily and it probably would genuinely be fun (sorry, couldn't resist) to do.

If the ball scene is supposed to be the pinnacle of the show then the rest of it must be very underwhelming. And what a strange song in that second part (after the first part where the audience didn’t applaud). All very awkward.

Interesting. Theatre is always a bit flat on-screen, but this makes me appreciate how much the London cast carried the show (no pun intended.) And without the revolving stalls seats it’s just a bit of pointless padding. And if they’re selling it as a different take on Cinderella it’s a bit of a mistake to cut away right before the joke that she is immediately rejected by him too. d'James something to do with them spreading safe sex messages after catching syphilis.

But is it FUN?Are you having FUN? - bearing in mind so were the passengers on the Titanic till it hit an iceberg. Nobody expected Titanic to sink. Everybody expected Bad Cinderella to sink.

I imagine union rules and contracts may prohibit broadcasting much more than this.

"I feel like I'm the favourite dish at A buffet"
Because A is clearly the most important word in the sentence, and must be stressed.....
