Can Liverpool or Glasgow afford Eurovision with y'all's currency in, how shall I write it, a state of flux? No better or worse than the rest of Europe. Howโs Mr Biden doing these days? ๐

Well I think it looks like Glasgow. Someone on Twitter had spotted that Olly Murs has released his upcoming tour dates and thereโs a show in Liverpool right around the time that the arena would need to be free to prepare for Eurovision. However itโs possible that those tour dates could get moved around.
Thereโs also someone else claiming that itโs leaked that itโs Liverpool. So looks like we wonโt definitely know for sure until the One Show.

Plenty of Twitter users pointing out that Olly Murs has announced a gig at the Liverpool arena for 6 May, that would rule out a May date there given the set-up time required.

I am wondering how the organisers are going to manage this. Normally, the location for a large-scale event is decided years in advance, with specific hotels contracted to the hosts well before rooms go on public sale.
With most accommodation across Merseyside already sold out to Eurovision fans, where are the acts, entourage, journalists, VIPs, etc. going to bed down?
I am fearful that those of us with existing bookings are going to be turfed out.

That Olly Murs has a lot to answer for. Hilarious.

Do you think he found out about his Liverpool date not going ahead whilst sitting on the sofa on the One Show?
Also Graham Norton mentioned Liverpool on his show last night whilst interviewing Sam Ryder. As the show is recorded in advance I guess they filmed him saying Liverpool and Glasgow and then just edited the winning city before it went on air.
Not Eurovision related but Graham's guests last night included Hugh Bonneville and Lesley Manville and they both had brilliant Judi Dench stories that I hadn't heard before. Worth watching on iplayer if you like Dame Judi anecdotes.

I am fearful that those of us with existing bookings are going to be turfed out. I'd like to think that the organisers did a big block provisional booking for the required number of rooms for each city on the short-list, or rather the people pulling together the campaign for each city would have organised it with the local tourist office. It's a bit of a risk for the hotels to block off so many rooms, knowing there's a good chance that the reservation will be cancelled, but the potential benefits are bigger. I'd argue that the process for narrowing down the list has been good. It's provided an opportunity for the losing cities on each respective short-list to big themselves up, and even if people don't go to Glasgow for Eurovision, a lot of extra people will be thinking 'Glasgow looks like a fun place to go for a weekend away'.

It is. I had a great weekend there this summer. But getting there and back on Avanti was a complete nightmare. Even the trains on their reduced emergency timetable are regularly being cancelled.

I have no idea how much Eurovision will charge! The announcement just says: "Those watching in the rest of the world will be able to vote via a secure online platform using a credit card from their country, and their votes, once added together, will be converted into points that will have the same weight as one participating country in both of the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final." At least the votes won't be charged in crypto! (yet) Will be interesting to see who reveals the vote of "the world" -

Great choice of host, fits in totally with the campness of Eurovision. Not so thrilled about Alesha Dixon.

Even less happy about Mel Giedroyc sharing the Final commentary while Graham is doing the presenting. Oh well, fingers crossed I'll be in the arena and not listening to the BBC commentary.

Just seen an Instagram post that says Graham Norton will be host and grand final commentator so I read that as he will be on stage hosting for the semi finals and in the booth commentating for the final.
