Too Early?
New Musicals
I'm sure there will be additions to this category before the cut-off (I hope so anyway). This is what I can come up with for now.
Confirmed: Bonnie & Clyde, 101 Dalmatians, The Band's Visit, Mandela, Jagged Little Pill, Newsies (will it be eligible?)
Potential: Tammy Faye musical (Almeida)??, Mrs Doubtfire (Shaftesbury)??, Beetlejuice (Dominion)??
Musical Revival
A crowded category already, mostly top quality imports.
South Pacific, Oklahoma, Legally Blonde, My Fair Lady, Beauty and the Beast, Grease
New Play
Mockingbird to dominate this one. I can't see anything beating it. The 47th and Dolls House Part 2 the likely others to get a look in from what I see so far. Possibly some love for Jodie Comer in Prima Facie.
Play Revival
Will Jerusalem be considered a revival (a la Constellations this year).
Cock, Jitney, The Seagull, The Glass Menagerie. Very early days.
My very early predictions: Band's Visit, Oklahoma and Mockingbird. Can't call Play revival.

I wonder why Small Island never got the awards attention way back in 2019. This is one of the National’s most acclaimed productions in recent years, and the most topical. I don’t know if the recent February run is too early and too distant for voters. Maybe it may get a play revival nom?
I wouldn’t also count out any Dominic Cooke production - isn’t he like the king of revivals in recent years? From Clybourne, Ma Rainey’s, Follies, and recently The Normal Heart. If The Corn is Green turns out well, or if the David Tennant starrer Good, push through, then he’ll be back.
We’d probably have to see which ones from the subsidised will become hits - RC’s For Black Boys… seems to be fine. The NT’s The Father and the Assassin may turn out well. Is the Anne-Marie Duff show at the Almeida a new play or revival?

I've told this story before, but Chris Bush and Rob Hastie genuinely thought about making cuts, because they were worried "it" was getting too much attention. There was even a round of applause on the night I went. |

Small Island as a production isn't eligible for the 2023 awards, but I think some of the new actors can be considered for acting awards |

As someone pointed out, WhatOnStage posted a 2023 prediction just the other day (link here)! It's early days, but it already seems like it'll be a great year for theatre. Looking back at last year's Oliviers thread, I remember people predicting that Frozen and Anything Goes would be the frontrunners in their respective categories; oh, how times have changed!  It's almost impossible to predict how well shows are going to perform this early on in the game, but it does seem To Kill a Mockingbird and Oklahoma are the very early frontrunners. Only time will tell whether that turns true! |

We’re a good few months in to the eligibility year now so what are peoples thoughts having seen some of the eligible shows and performances.
Legally Blonde can’t be considered for musical revival now surely?! 101 Dalmatian’s is also a no-go for new musical as well I’d say.
How about performances? Any standouts?

New Musicals - I think only 101 Dalmatians and Bonnie and Clyde eligible up to now that have opened!! Curious how Mandela will be, and still Band's Visit and some other potential transfers to come in (if Operation Mincemeat comes in they will have a great shot!)
Revival - I think this one will be between South Pacific and Oklahoma, and that these two will also dominate the acting noms.
Best Play - Still sticking with Mockingbird to win. Prima Facie, Patriots, Mad House, Dolls House P2 for nominees.
Revival - Cock, The Corn is Green
Best Actress - Jodie Comer to win (other potential nominees - Noma Dumezweni, Nicola Walker, Anne Marie Duff)
Best Actor - Hard one. David Harbour, Wil Johnson, Rafe Spall and Tom Hollander all potential nominees
Featured Actor - Bill Murray for a nomination (Mad House)
Featured Actress - Noms for Akiya Henry and June Watson (Mad House and Dolls House P2)
Edit to add: More to come in before the cut-off hopefully with new shows for Phoenix, Prince Edward, Lyric, Garrick, Ambassadors, and whatever plays @sohoplace

Is Bridge Theatre even planning to be a member of SOLT? They have wonderful productions in recent years, and there’s also the upcoming Guys & Dolls musical revival next year.

Unless there are any more shows that will open prior to the end of February 2022, I believe this to be the list of eligible musicals in the main categories (oops if I've missed any). Definitely a less "commercial" bunch of shows to last year in the new musicals category.
