Which tube station is my best bet for the Almeida? It looks pretty equidistant to Angel and H&I but any advice gratefully received. It’s from the POV of the shortest/most direct route possible. I just know my son will be mithering to see Spring Awakening so I may as well put the planning in now. Thanks.

It is indeed pretty much equidistant from both Angel and H&A. Depending on which line you are using Angel is probably easier to get out of (fewer tunnels) and it's a slightly nicer walk past Islington Green - but it's really down to which of those is easiest for you to get to.

danb , I second princeton, get out at Angel, walk to the Almeida and enjoy the view. (Though there really is no wrong choice there, it's a walk on Upper Street either way, and that is *very* pretty, but the Angel side of it is perhaps a tiny bit prettier.)

I always go to Angel too, it's practically impossible to get lost going from there and I'm very good at getting lost.

The 4, 43, 30 and 19 all link Angel with Highbury & Islington station. St Marys Church the stop for all of them. I've lived here for 25 years and never noticed it being uphill from Angel to H&I, but maybe I've just got used to it. |

No one mentioned downhill from H & I whereas uphill from Angel? I wouldn't really call it uphill, it's barely noticeable. Not a difficult or long walk in either direction. |

Sorry I was just being silly. If you are going via Angel any uphill on the way is offset by an easy journey on the return to Angel |

Other one to watch out for at H&I is if it's match day at the Emirates. And personally I think there's better food/drink options coming up from Angel if that's something to consider.

I’d definitely choose the line which is easiest for you (I personally dislike changing lines and walking for ages around crowded tunnels).
Angel is a nicer walk past shops and restaurants. Definitely more mainstream and gentrified. Never noticed any slope!

My three years at uni in the north paid off, I didn't have to think twice about the meaning of the northern words!
Now considering counting walking to the almeida extra exercise now i know it's uphill, more points.

I’ve never noticed the incline, but you do get to walk past both Gails and Ottolenghi if you walk from Angel, and Belle Epoch if you walk from H&I. |

If you have time, perhaps walk to Upper Street (Angel end) via the towpath on the Regents Canal.
