Longtime lurker and this is my first ever post.
So Regents Park have said that they will announce their new season in Autumn and I was wondering if anyone had any intel on what their big summer musical will be? It will likely be a re-imagined classic, but just what.

Welcome to posting! Well done on taking the plunge and starting a thread… very impressive!
Weren’t they planning to put the cancelled 101 Dalmatians on?

I really want them to have a go at the Secret Garden, just for the setting more than anything

101 Dalmatians will take the early summer slot I believe if it is to be where it was scheduled this year. I have heard of what the revival is but I am sworn to secrecy (sorry ), hopefully someone else can share what it is, although if it is what I've been told, it's certainly not a "classic", but a very popular post 2000's musical.

DM someone with what show it is, then they can tell everyon and no one will know it came from you

Hmm..do you really want to know? Yesssss. Or if we are playing fantasy programming on a garden theme how about kids version version of Nights dream, Sunday and The park, Secret Garden (musical) and Strauss' The park.

Post 2000s musicals could be anything from The Producers to Spamalot.

"Very popular" pretty much narrows it down to Billy Elliot, Avenue Q (neither of which strike me as particularly Regent's Park material!) and not a lot else, unless you are talking productions done at Regent's Park itself in that time period?

How about a mash up. Who wants to write 'Sunday In The Secret Garden'?

They could do The Secret Garden starring Monty Don.

I’ve said it a few times on here, for no other reason it is a beautiful musical, but it isn’t you usual revival but a new musical that recently played Broadway but flopped, despite getting critical acclaim, this musical plot lends itself to the outside and being played in the open air, I feel will actually elevate it. That musical with it awesome bluegrass score being Bright Star.

Very popular post 2000s musical could also be Legally Blonde, again a really odd choice for the open air though.
I’d love to see them do Sunset Boulevard, with Norma’s grand staircase as the centrepiece of the set. Also Miss Saigon in the open air would be incredible, the trees of Regent’s Park setting the scene for the Vietnamese jungle. I think they did an open air production somewhere abroad where they flew in an actual real-life helicopter! They could do some spectacular things with Saigon in that space but I can imagine it would be a very expensive production, and perhaps it’s too soon after the revival and tour right now, same with Sunset.

Could it be In the Heights? I think that would work well open air

Could it be In the Heights? I think that would work well open air Oh I'd love this! But I don't think the film did well enough that they'll be keen to launch a big new production :/

Very odd. Not sure that will attract many of the usual Regent's Park crowd! It's a show very much for my generation and younger, not sure the film attracted too many of the older folk! I liked the show well enough but not sure I would pay to see it again. Very much casting dependent for me.

Hmmm I do really want to see that again, and my mum wants to see it live after watching the MTV version, but I really can't see it working in the open air?
Maybe that's just because all we've seen there is 7 Brides for 7 Brothers which really suited the setting, but to me those classic musicals with a bit of a western feel work best.
