Jessie Buckley was a guest on a recent episode of the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast, and she talked a few minutes about her experience doing Cabaret. She said it was the hardest thing she’s ever done, and seems like she may have struggled with calibrating herself to be able to perform the role the way she wanted during her run, which speaks to her absences. I would say that had to have informed her decision not to open the show in NY.

I would argue the main reason she's not opening New York is she wasn't asked!

Damn, how much lower can they possibly make the tempo? The production already took a lot of liberties there when it launched but Willkommen, Mein Herr and Money were all an absolute slog yesterday (which is a shame cos they're normally highlights).
ETA: They also dumbed down/overexplained Tomorrow Belongs to Me IMO.

Almost wish they'd let the covers take over for a bit like Matt and EmBenj did - Toby's MC is incredible and arguably the most queer we've had.

Cara Delevigne??? Hmm, intriguing. That track just posted sounds fairly heavily produced/compressed/autotuned, but not completely awful vocally….has she ever done a sustained run on the stage before? She’s kinda a fun actor in the right context on film, but I feel that she generally just plays herself most of the time. She’d need to portray more damaged/fragile for Sally Bowles and my guess is she’d naturally tend towards more the manipulative/crazy side. I’d be interested to see her though.
I guess this round robin “name” casting must be doing well for the production, and it’s bums on seats that counts. How long can this really run for though?

I feel like the place where a couple of the Sallys have stumbled is playing the humour of the early relationship with Cliff; they just couldn't get into the timing required for that sort of thing, which flattens the show in places. Hopefully with a new Cliff as well that is easier to achieve

I find Sally in this production comes on a little too strong, not so much in a desperate way (which is very much in character) but there's just no ebbs and flows in the dynamic if that makes sense. I almost wish we still had Why Should I Wake Up? so Cliff could at least do SOMETHING. There's being a camera then there's being a brick wall (though I question how much of this is down to direction cos I've definitely seen Cliffs in other productions who're able to bounce off of their Sallys.) Adam/"Bobby" from the previous cast was a decent Cliff, probably the only one I felt had any sort of back-and-forth with his Sally.

Why is it so hard to see the original film in the UK. It is not on any streaming service and the only version available to buy is an poor quality DVD version which is 4.3 letterbox so unwatchable with blackbars on all four sides. Why is hidden so much?
