Phew. I thought i had booked first preview, but thankfully not.
I'm booked for 3 performances, 1 in Aug, 1 on my 50th birthday (that way I have an excuse to not do birthday things) and the closing night. I hope i like this production!

The bad news is two of its leads are booked and busy after this. What is Caissie scheduled to do after this run?

Possibly The Bedwetter, hear that’s due to transfer to Broadway this season.

...this show requires an actress above all

I realize this may be a lost cause, but I am in London (alone) from August 23rd to 26th and I would desperately like to see this show. I was devastated when I heard about it last week, only to call up and learn I'd just missed out on the last few tickets for those dates. In the past, I've been quite lucky when it comes to queuing for returns/held tickets on the day of the show (especially if I am only after a single ticket), but with the Donmar seating capacity being so small I fear that any possible returns are going to be like gold dust. So trying to manage my expectations.
Can anyone with more experience with the Donmar venue offer me any tips on the best methods to try for returns from there? I live in the north of England so I can only try for tickets during the brief period I'm in London (there are five shows during the time I'll be there). Is it there hope in queueing at the box office on the day of performances? Can anyone explain to me how these 'day tickets' work?

...this show requires an actress above all IMO Caissie isn’t the strongest actress and sort of wonder why she’s been cast. Would have loved to see an older actress in this.

Yeah I agree with that Having seen Caissie in a number of shows prior to Caroline Or Change, I would have agreed with you, but her performances in that and Leopoldstadt really made me rethink my stance on her acting abilities. She was like a completely different performer and I was very impressed. A transfer would be wonderful, there are so many incredible actors who could play Diana/are finally in the correct age bracket. Absolutely not Kerry Ellis.

The problem with “an older” actress is that Diana isn’t old. She’s in her late 30s or at the very most very early 40s. She sings about how young she was she had Gabe and that was only 16 years ago. Caissie is 42 and Alice was 44(ish) so going “older” just wouldn’t make sense to the text.

They release returns online as far as I know, just keep checking back closer to your dates. Don’t give up! I managed to get one for Private Lives just by having the tab saved on my phone and checking whenever I remembered.

I would be checking for returns but the ticket link on the N2N page is broken and has been for the last week. I was thinking I should message the Donmar and report it, but I don't know if they have just closed the page while there are no tickets available(??).

Absolutely not Kerry Ellis. I remember first seeing Caissie in 'Hair' and falling IN LOVE with her voice, but perhaps not seeing her shine acting-wise. To be fair to her, it's not that Sheila's the best written and developed character in the canon. I thought I could already see her acting chops more in 'Ghost', but it was when I saw her do her own concert at Cadogan Hall just pre-pandemic that I got to appreciate how much her storytelling has matured and got to another level. The way she was able to transition from sharing (emotional!) episodes of her own life right into songs attached to those moments was so impressive, but perhaps the most surprising moment for me was when she sang 'Dangerous to dream' from 'Frozen'. She found so many nuances and details in a number which others may sing like a fairly "generic" Disney ballad... I was very impressed. So I am very excited to see her inhabit Diana (and I definitely would not be excited if someone cast Ellis in this role).

Wow, good for you! (I'm jealous). I have been checking several times a day, every day, but haven't seen any free seats at all as of yet. What time of day did you both look? Is there a certain time that returns are more likely to go up?

Can we expect to see or hear anything from rehearsals? I’m on the edge of my seat.
