I was at the matinee today, and it was being filmed - no announcement on when and how it might be seen though.

Was the filming intrusive?
Pretty sure they didn’t announce this date when selling the tickets!!

No, there were no cameras on stage. The ones I could see were two cameras on each side of the circle and one on the left side of the stalls, with a few empty seats surrounding them. I bought my ticket this morning and there was no announcement of it until we got there. But it also didn't interfere with my view from the gallery in any way.

To be screened late November... Squeal! Confirmed? That feels like very little time for editing, production or whatever they have to do.

Very excited if its being preserved! As had a friend that didn't get the chance to come down and see Sutton, so at least this gives a hope of them seeing her performance!

Wouldnt it be much more practical to film the show from all of the angles they need with an empty house so that no-one’s view is obstructed and they can stop/start as necessary, and then just film reactions from a live audience “after the fact”? That’s how I’d do it anyway.

That’s how I’d do it anyway. I don't know if that would work. The show really depends a lot on the audience's response. Performing a musical comedy out into an empty space would drain the energy right out of it.

That’s how I’d do it anyway. I'm relatively sure now I've seen Hamilton that's the best way to capture performances - a mixture of live performances and other shoots. Allows you to both get intrusive shots for effect but also to capture the full audience reaction and the energy that brings.

They were filming again tonight. Brilliant show, wonderful cast. Slightly underpowered for the title number at the end of the first Act but otherwise utterly joyous from start to finish and the orchestra was also on top form.
I'm so glad I booked front-row seats for this...which is (with a couple of socially-distanced exceptions) my first foray back into big-budget commercial theatre since the pandemic started!

I wonder which of Robert Lindsay's 'friendship' ad-libs they'll use in the final cut? Is he still doing them on filming nights?

I've been trying to work out why this didn't quite land for me and I think I've narrowed it down to two reasons. Firstly, the songs just don't matter. When I looked up the show afterwards and realised how many of them were written for other things or were previously in completely different places in the show or sung by other characters, it clicked that they don't add anything to the plot or really to the characterisation - how can they when they're so unspecific. Which leaves the whole thing a little hollow for me, with no one I really felt like rooting for. The ship could have sunk and I'm not sure I would have been overly heartbroken :')
I also question why Reno is touted as the main character? Is it always like this, or just because it's Sutton? Reno doesn't really add much to the plot until the second half of act two when she randomly decides she's in love with Hope's fiance, presumably to justify her presence in the show at all. If anything it's an ensemble piece, but I could maybe see the argument of framing Billy as the main character, since his actions drive the plot a little more.
Just not my cup of tea. I think I prefer a show that doesn't feel so empty when it comes to plot and character, regardless of the level of spectacle. Also I hate the Barbican, which I don't think helped :')
