Did anyone else pick up on Shirley's comments to Ranvir? "It's the quarter finals next week for everyone."
Either she misspoke, or that's the way the BBC has decided to deal with Nicola's forced withdrawal.

Did anyone else pick up on Shirley's comments to Ranvir? "It's the quarter finals next week for everyone." Either she misspoke, or that's the way the BBC has decided to deal with Nicola's forced withdrawal. They'll be six couples left next week and there will be four in the final so that makes it the quarter finals in Strictly terms. The original plan was five couples in the final so next week would still have been the quarter finals if Nicola had stayed in. Nothing has changed.

Right here goes... Clara - Jive - flat footed. Lacking bounce. Too many mistakes. She was defeated by the dance and it showed Booo!!!

At this point they might as well rename Couples Choice do what the hell you like and get over marked. Another instantly forgettable one tonight. This has been a particularly dull series lacking memorable dances so great to see Masie break that trend with her fantastic Quickstep so of course it doesn't even get the best mark of the night. Shows what a traditional ballroom or Latin can still achieve despite the producers trying to minimise the number we actually see. Probably Clara out tonight, hopefully JJ and Jamie join her soon. Agree with reference to the couples choice, always seem to be over marked. Other were better this week, than HRVY.

I'm enjoying the dancing but the ghastly holograms were grim last night...oh that they just concentrated on the dancing.

That was the right result. She still didn't nail the jive second time round. It was better but still some errors and flat footed.

I'm enjoying the dancing but the ghastly holograms were grim last night...oh that they just concentrated on the dancing. You are right. The production team needs to watch the show in a living room with a few fans to see what it looks like to them. The floor stuff is particularly galling. In this more intimate setting, less is more. Also can someone there please tell the cameramen that we like to to see the feet. Or we cannot understand what the judges are criticising.

A Chorus Line, Phantom, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Everybody's Talking About Jamie, Waitress and Little Shop of Horrors are the musicals being used for Musicals week this week.

Jamie and Waitress are not scores that have gone much beyond a relatively small number of people so that might put those dancers at a bit of disadvantage compared to the more established shows.
I am struggling to thing what music from Phantom works for the Argentine Tango. That dance only works for me when the music is authentic. Phantom really isn't a Latin score!

Strictly Come Dancing has announced plans for its musical week.
On top of a performance from the company of & Juliet, there will also be a plethora of numbers from stage shows performed by the show's band and danced to by the remaining contestants.
Performing this weekend will be:
Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse will perform an Argentine Tango to "The Phantom Of The Opera" from The Phantom of The Opera
JJ Chalmers and Amy Dowden will perform the Charleston to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
HRVY and Janette Manrara will perform the American Smooth to "One (Singular Sensation)" from A Chorus Line
Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer will perform the Jive to "Everybody's Talking About Jamie "from Everybody's Talking About Jamie
Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice will perform the Viennese Waltz to "She Used To Be Mine" from Waitress
Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez will perform the Jive to "Little Shop of Horrors" from Little Shop of Horrors

No quick steps then. 2 jives. Thank goodness no own choice. And two suitable jive tracks as well! Think most of them have done the Quickstep already.

My pet hate is when they're doing something that spins, and the camera goes around with them. It doesn't look impressive, because the dancers look like they're not moving, and the whirling background makes me feel dizzy!

And that really shows you shouldn't.
For the AT to work, it has to be with appropriate music.
Just because a track has the right numbers of beats per bar for a particular dance, it does not mean that you should dance to it

Sometimes the music choice is bizarre: they might as well just count.

I think we've avoided that this season - I guess because normally it's a cameraman with a handheld camera who runs around them and that can't be done with social distancing.

JJ dancing last week in the kilt and puffy shirt looked like something from Brigadoon.
And what were HRVY and Jeanette wearing last week? Looked like he was in sleep pants and was she wearing a cape? The dance was great; very energetic and dynamic but the costumes were odd!

I think the costumes this year have been terrible and look like they have been done on the cheap. The outfits that they have put Tess and Claudia in have bene even worse. Still it gives some extra humour, goodness knows what they must think of them.

And suddenly, the re-inclusion of The Phantom of the Opera all makes sense. The BBC may not carry adverts, but it does an awful lot of advertising! At least it gives BurlyBeaR a legitimate excuse to wear his new cape. 😂
