Scare headlines in tabloids are rarely accurate. Spain changed the way it counts deaths a while back to a system which would be quite slow at picking up a surge.
Yesterday Spain had 2,615 cases which is very high.

I tend to watch the figures closely and local spikes can push them up. Being in Birmingham we heard about the outbreak at the farm Hereford way and there has been a near 50 person outbreak at a packaging company Sandwell way too this week. So these sort of incidents can push the number up.
We had a report on our local news about them doing open to everyone tests at a Mosque in Burton upon Trent, there hadn't been an outbreak as such at the Mosque it was just the largest available floorspace in that area to do tests and people of all faiths were going and being tested so that was a good move.
With America, Australia, Spain now having or beginning second spikes it is concerning if one was beginning here again or hopefully the administrations think they can live with a reasonable amount of cases per day and keep things as open as possible. We just have to be careful especially those on the shielding list who have been told they can go back to more normal lifestyles.
Plus with each devolved Administration doing things a bit differently it may not be easy to tell what triggers outbreaks and what activities doesn't. Idealy if there had been a more united response and one country relaxed one measure whilst the others didn't to allow data to be studdied so you could see how numbers compare in like for like cities and act accordingly.

PineappleForYou The temp checks are done as you queue up to check in/bag drop - easy not to notice as just done as you walk past. If you don't bag drop and check in online, I wonder if they do it elsewhere orif they just miss you? When you say fed - on my BA flight they just slung a plastic bag with water and crisps in at us, did you get actual food? Jealous if so! I think the time has come for a bit of managed risk; we can't sit at home forever. I took on hand luggage. Could my temp be checked while I scanned my boarding pass? I suspect not. Crisps, water and biscuits were chucked at us. It was a considerable amount of time of not wearing a mask. A lot of anti maskers ate very slowly...

I flew on BA yesterday from Barcelona to Heathrow. No temperature checks, we got fed mid flight (I was in cattle class). The contact locator form was a joke. The online form kept freezing, I could of put anything down and no one would of checked as we left the airport no one was checking if we had completed it or not. Hang on, I liked your Tesco retweet yesterday. You're posting on theatreboard whilst on holiday?? Can't get it out of my head you sitting in Gaudi's beautiful gothic cathedral you checking the latest musings on the chatboard I flew back yesterday. Today, was a trip to lidl as I'm allergic to Tescos. Most folk wore masks. The security guy politely went around the shop reminding a few people to wear one, most apologised apart from on silly person who became very defensive and claimed she did not know. Hmm.

They have to - even a vaccine isn't going to get rid of the virus over night. People have to learn to live with it (with appropriate precautions) or hibernate, those are the only two choices.

My mum said the guard in tesco this morning made no attempt to even advise people to wear a mask and let several walk right past him unmasked.

The majority of people will wear them, a few won't - including people who have legitimate reasons to not wear them. Majority uptake should be enough to keep what is now a low transmission rate under control. I don't see any benefit to obsessive mask monitoring when you're out and about.

I imagine if there’s a point where a vaccine and/or treatments may not get rid of the virus but make it less deadly and manageable then governments will simply stop reporting numbers and end social distancing.

With masks will people remember them if they pop to the local cornershop for a pint of milk, paper etc?
I'd made a mental note "ensure you have it when you do the big shop" but suddenly thought I'll need it if I pop up the road. A lot of local shops know their customers well and I doubt they would look to refuse entry but please remember they deserve the same courtesy as what you might give Morrisons, Tesco, Asda supermarkets etc.
Also the extended flu vaccination is good. As I turn 50 early next year, I'm borderline but I usually manage to get a free jab each year.

I went to the shops today, no shopping needed, I was just wanting to be cheeky. Carried a spare mask. Was going to say 'oh your masks haven't arrived yet? have one of my spares'. But I can report I saw 100% take up of face coverings

Mask use by me has been very low prior to today. Went into town today and everyone was wearing masks. I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't think men have got any idea what it's like for women running the gauntlet of men "just being cheeky" day after day...

Walking around recently I've seen occasional disposable masks on the ground or in bushes. If they'd been blown there by the wind I'd expect to see other domestic litter as well but it's just the masks, which suggests that there are people who think "I've been wearing / carrying this mask for this far but I will not go one step more" and drop it in the middle of nowhere.
I guess it's like those shoes that turn up at the sides of roads out in the countryside.

But people I came across were all really good

Only be cheeky with men You could perhaps try not being cheeky with anyone because you have no idea what is going on in other people's lives? Just a thought.

And also because it's really weird and creepy, and sooner or later someone will just smack you.

No I'm not touchy, what with the whole pandemic and social distancing. I agree, do you really think I went out, to get nothing and put myself at risk? It was a silly throw away comment on an internet chat forum
