Does anyone know what regulations the major TV channels are following regarding having older presenters/actors in the studio going forward? I've heard that Corrie and Emmerdale won't have anyone over the age of 70 on set which rules out close to a dozen actors on those shows and what about people approaching 70 - Helen Worth turns 70 early next year so does she suddenly potentially then only appear via Skype/Teams? Janet Street-Porter who is 73 was back in the Loose Women studio today after appearing remotely for several weeks and I've noticed some over 70 local newsreaders ( Nick Owen being one are now back in the studio) I assume this will pave the way for Countdown to resume new episodes as Nick Hewer is also in his 70s. That's a show where the contestants and presenters are spaced well apart anyway, it just needs a bit of adjustment with Dictionary Corner. Countdown was a show which had natural social distancing. They could maybe ditch the celeb in dictionary corner and it could work easily. Nick Hewer is a youthful 76 and Rachel Riley has a daughter who is only 7 months old so both could be wary about being in a studio. Rachel did return to film a run of episodes which were taped Feb/March I guess. Also on Corrie Julia Goulding (Shona) was back on set around the same time and she only had her son at end November. Brooke Vincent who had her son over a month earlier hasn't returned. Maybe their contracts are slightly different as Brooke has been in the show a lot longer than Julia or Brooke was taking some unpaid or SMP leave I don't know. I was surprised to see Julia back on screen as it was likely filmed when Covid was rising but the venerable Bill Roache and Barbara Knox were still filming so the risk hadn't been factored in then.

I really enjoyed the recent episodes of QI taped just before lockdown, still in the studio but with no studio audience. There is distance between the panellists and it was nice seeing them trying to make each other laugh.

Kate Garraway returning to GMB to present next Monday and Tuesday. Good to see her trying to return to some normal while Derek Draper is trying to recover. She cannot leave her life on hold forever and doing some work now makes sense as it may not be practical for her to work when Derek hopefully can return home eventually as he'd need a lot of care and attention then.
Hopefully he will pull through and get back to some decent quality of life for Kate and especially for their two children.
Kate has been amazing through all this and maybe she shouldn't have had her children filmed so much but they did appear in the media when she was in the Jungle so they are known otherwise I'm sure she'd have asked or the press would have blurred their faces especially at this difficult time.

However it's not in China itself but Kazakhstan - but the Chinese Ambassador there is making a lot of noise about it.

Good news.
Through with usage and enforcement on Buses patchy, guidelines for Bus drivers are needed quickly.

This morning for the first time security staff came though the train asking people to put masks on.
Tonight, the guy sat opposite has removed his mask so he can enjoy a beer. Bless.

So the message is that masks are good unless they're not and we won't enforce a law to wear them but everybody should wear them. Crystal clear...

Translation: The PM's scientific advice arrives via his own special "scientists" whose science does not come from peer-reviewed journals.

Who cares as blue passports are much more important And sovereignty. We can vaccinate ourselves with sovereignty. AND use it to pay the bills. Miraculous stuff, sovereignty. Goodness only knows how we ever managed without it.

This morning for the first time security staff came though the train asking people to put masks on. I'm surprised how little enforcement is happening on public transport, considering that people sitting close together for extended periods is exactly the situation that maximises the chance of transmission. On the other hand, a French bus driver was murdered by recalcitrant passengers recently so a reluctance to challenge anyone is understandable.

I'm glad the Health Secretary has his priorities in order, featuring in an idea I can only assume was pitched by Alan Partridge:

In London usage seems to be pretty good most people comply but then the BTP are usually at the busiest stations enforcing it - it's the busses where usage and enforcement is lacking.

That will teach me, it was trending yesterday so assumed it was recent. That's the trouble with Twitter I suppose!

No one is wearing a mask in shops anymore - shows Gove never goes in one.

The government messaging is very mixed at the moment. Wear masks, but go out to restaurants and pubs to eat and drink -activities that are impossible while wearing a mask. Keep (sort of) distancing, but get onto public transport and into your offices, even if you could easily continue to work from home. Generally, go places and do things where you will be in closer proximity to more people, but if you catch coronavirus it's your own fault for getting too close to too many people.

Ah yes. I'm absolutely going to follow that advice from people who made the Tory Party Conference virtual so they don't have to gather.
