Dalh made with coconut water. A wee bit sweet tasting for liking so I nabbed some chilli sauce off a colleague. Hurrah for team work.

After learning of the vegan cooking TikTok sensation Tabitha Brown, I've been watching some of her great clips. Her take on sweet potato avocado "toast" tickled me so I think it will be on the menu for lunch. I love her soothing voice and some of the expressions she uses in her videos, particularly when adding a lot of spices: "that's your business."

Yesterday we had fresh English asparagus with melted butter - the first we've had this year. Then roast lamb with new potatoes, carrots plus leeks in white sauce with gravy and mint sauce. We were due to have homemade rhubarb and apple crumble and custard for pudding but were so full that we had that in the evening.
The reason I mention this is every now and then I feel a bit down and sorry for myself in lockdown and then I think about Helen Dunmore's "The Seige", which describes the seige of Leningrad and how people were reduced by starvation to cutting bits off a leather belt to boil with water to make a soup.
Then I think: "Maybe life isn't that bad."

Lunch: a corned beef and tomato sandwich, an apple, and a banana.
Not lunch: chipotle-lime chicken marinading in the fridge for dinner.

I definitely think we should treat ourselves with great food if we can.

Vegetable-laden frittata, salad, and some homemade bread that smells divine in the oven.

Burger, halloumi and roasted tomatoes, all done on the barbecue, with various salads and a glass of chilled vino blanco.
Excellent Saturday!

Pate on toast for the wife & I. No butter for her, ALL of the butter for me. When I’m not here one day it’ll be because of the butter.

No time to stop today. Took a Kit Kat Chunky and a mocha into a meeting for lunch. Healthy, y’know.

Chicken and cardamon curry with cauliflower rice. Whilst I’m all for reasonable discourse & polite conversation, Cardamon and its’ evil pods of doom are the work of the devil and must not be allowed to exist. I’m right up for Cardamonageddon....death to all pods (apart from vanilla).

Especially with hot pot or a shepherds pie.

The Pret down the street has reopened. I have a prosciutto/basil/tomato baguette and a fruit salad. It's very exciting.

Fried mackerel.
It annoys me far more than it ought to that hot oil refuses to stay in the pan and splashes out.

CSA has started up and I am now overloaded with salad greens, so they'll be a mainstay of every meal henceforth. Today that means a salad topped with roasted sweet potatoes and beets.

OMG, Someone in a tree I don't know who Carly is, but she really should not be allowed to give food advice! (Also, I'm never eating mints again!) Today was pizza day. It was a small, industrial deep dish pizza, but it did the trick of being my day-brightening dose of junk food just fine.
