I had a ticket for Rockets and Blue Lights. One of their emails implied that it would live on somewhere else and that it had been filmed for their archive. I'm a bit disappointed it's only going to be on the radio, even if it was only an archive film. (And they still haven't refunded me for it yet.  ) |

As you *love* him so much, Forrest , you'll no doubt already know that Mark Gatiss is, as things currently stand, due to adapt and appear in a production of A Christmas Carol at Alexandra Palace. Like George III, it will be directed by Adam Penford, and is scheduled to begin a run at Nottingham Playhouse in October (though perhaps October 2021 is more likely than 2020). Yes, that (was) definitely on my to see list, especially as it will also be staged at the Alexandra Palace, where I've never been! :) Also, can you believe I've never, ever seen A Christmas Carol? (It never got staged where I'm from.) |

A few days ago the NT posted a bunch of trailers for different shows. Possible clues to future NT At Homes, or just promo for the NT Collection for schools thing?

Weren’t they all for shows that they’ve already had on ‘at home’? I wasn’t looking too closely but some of them were - two guvners, 12th night etc |

The Radio 4 series 'Grounded' sounds like it has some interesting guests and conversations - I keep catching bits of them as I drift in and out of the kitchen, though I do find Louis Theroux's flat, faux-naive delivery thing annoying.

I only watched a few of the NT at Home shows, but I feel quite sad it's ending.
Genuinely quite surprised King Lear's not been shown as part of it, especially with all of Ian McKellen's charitable work.
But Amadeus is a pretty good one to go out on. Although I'm not sure how it will come across on TV, it could be one of those things where you needed to be there in-person.

I cannot help but feel a little underwhelmed by their choices, but I do understand that they took the opportunity to show some work discussing topics that are relevant at the moment, which is commendable. I'll likely end up watching all of the plays, but am not extremely excited about any of them.
But, it's free, and it's lovely that they are doing it... It does make me sad that these are the last few.

I am saving the play for a proper treat for Saturday, when I can unplug everything (but the private laptop), pour a G&T (the raspberry rose tonic is already in the fridge) and enjoy it without any distractions. |

Oh - just sat down to watch A Monster Calls and discovered it went offline at 7pm. I'd been putting it off because frankly I've not been in the mood for yet more misery this week but steeled myself to watch it.

I think the 'for free'is relevant. They should charge while the schools are closed. I would pay 10 or 20 pounds from ones I want to see. They have to make money. I payed 20 to watch Lungs and I am rather excited about it. Will have some drinks and snacks. A proper event. I tend to put a lot of the national theatre on but am not really paying attention. Moving to a more event feel would increase the longevity of making money this way.

To be quite honest, I actually thought the first part was lovely: I spent most of the second part crying my eyes out. :) But since a recording is in existence, an opportunity to see it will come along eventually, surely! I changed my plans last minute and watched The Madness of George III (no G&T, sadly, as I still have some work to do before bed). I loved it: thought Mark Gatiss was terrific (that must have been such a difficult role to play with all the changes to the character over the course of the play!), but Wilf Scolding and Jack Holden were brilliant too, one wicked but so funny, the other one so endearingly kind! The play is an absolute rollercoaster of emotion, but so well balanced out and sprinkled with just the right dose of humour. I also want half of those outfits now! |

As has been discussed pay for view probably isn't simple, as shouldn't then people involved be paid and rights and the logistics of manging and all that but when you see how many people have watched I think even if they could charge a pound or two they could bring a lot of needed money in, and you'd risk that much on something wouldn't you. Well not us, non theatre people, especially when there's someone in it that off tv or a film etc and could be a hook.
