Although I applaud the Royal Opera House for trying, goodness me, last night's first effort was hard work, and far from the uplifting evening many of us need at this difficult time. No programme hoping to appeal to a general audience, and solicit donations, should ever begin with Britten! ☹
At least when, or if, the ROH reopens, its black employees can look forward to receiving a substantial pay rise, and no longer being lumbered with all the menial but vital jobs, like checking bags at the entrances.

especially when there's someone in it that off tv or a film etc and could be a hook. It's also a great showcase for those actors who are excellent but usually relegated to small 'character' parts on TV, while more photogenic but often considerably less talented actors get lead screen roles.

crowblack Thank you for the info. I see they are also doing a series of panel events thematically related to the plays they will be showing. It's quite a wonderful idea, really. I've only been to the RX once (to see the beautiful Light Falls last year - that was my birthday present to myself, and I could not have chosen better), but somehow Manchester and its theatres are so dear to me, I'll have to find time for this. :)

Miscast Musicals live stream now on You Tube.
The opening film from West Side Story was the highlight for me and the vocal performances aren't all spot on but a very entertaining couple of hours.

I highly recommend the streamed version of The Last Five Years, directed by and starring Lauren Samuels: lwtheatres.co.uk/whats-on/the-last-five-years/Lots of thought gone into the costumes, sets and props and some clever editing. And two excellent vocal and acting performances. Only one more chance to see it tomorrow night, well worth the £8!

Not theatre, but ITV is repeating BBC4's delightful drama The Road to Coronation Street tonight, with David Dawson as the show's young creator Tony Warren.

Fun, sassy, and very gay hour of comedy and storytelling from Isaac Oliver at Joe's Pub in NYC.

One of the reasons I love the Court is that they always do something relevant and clever. Can't help but to be excited about this! (I absolutely *loved* this back in November.)

An evening at Joe Allen's live now with great line up Thanks for sharing. There have been a lot of these fundraiser shows (both in the UK and the US), but I have to say this was one of the best. Very well edited and Fra Fee really shone through. Plus some classic songs and well-known acting names. I knew next to nothing about Joe Allen's, but I'll certainly find out more about them. Unfortunately, I think that's also reflected in the number of views, which is rather low at present. The only thing I'd change for next time would be to ask the drag queen to shorten her links a bit. I appreciate how much effort she put in, but even as a gay man the proportion of song to spiel jut didn't work for me. I found myself skipping forward. But that didn't detract from anything and Gary Wilmot at the end really shone through as well.

For anyone interested: Bernadette Peters: A Special Concert, which was filmed in 2009 at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre, will stream July 10 at 8 PM ET to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The concert featuring the three-time Tony recipient will be available for viewing on Playbill as well as BroadwayCares.org/Bernadette. In addition to the sold-out performance, the evening will also feature a conversation between Peters and Tony nominee Michael Urie celebrating Peters’ award-winning career. Bernadette Peters: A Special Concert, which was originally titled Bernadette Peters: A Special Concert for Broadway Barks Because Broadway Cares, was directed by Richard Jay-Alexander with music direction by Marvin Laird and Cubby O’Brien on drums. Sound design was by Tom Sorce with lighting design by Lenny Cowles. Richard Hester served as production stage manager, and the production managers were Michael Flowers, Nathan Hurlin, and Patty Saccente. For the streaming event, Hester serves as director. The concert also features appearances by the late Emmy winner Mary Tyler Moore, who co-founded the annual pet adoption event Broadway Barks with Peters, and several furry friends who were then looking to find their forever homes. Viewers can expect songs from Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park With George, Follies, Sweeney Todd, South Pacific, and more. “I’m delighted to be able to share this incredible evening again, which has only been seen by those who were inside the Minskoff Theatre,” Peters says. “I hope this evening will bring joy to those who now get to experience it while still making a real difference for people in need across the country, and in our industry through support of Broadway Cares.” Tom Viola, executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, adds, “Bernadette has been an invaluable friend and champion of Broadway Cares for more than two decades. She has been at our side as a member of our Board of Trustees. She’s led, with a personal and cheerful insistence, the appeals and front-of-house fundraising at the Broadway shows in which she’s starred. And she’s been a fearless advocate for those who need a helping hand in troubled times. We’re honored she’d allow us to revisit this magnificent concert online.” Peters, who last graced the Broadway stage in the title role of the Tony-winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, won Tonys for her performances in Song and Dance and Annie Get Your Gun, and she was Tony-nominated for her roles in Gypsy, The Goodbye Girl, Sunday in the Park With George, Mack & Mabel, and On the Town. She is also the recipient of the 2012 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award. While the concert stream is free to all, VIP and sponsorship opportunities are available that provide exclusive virtual experiences with Peters and recognition during the stream. Visit www.BroadwayCares.org/Bernadette.
