Miranda deserved a later time slot. I'd forgotten was a special show it was, the reunion retrospective really did it justice. More please, Ms Hart ! Considering that the Beeb had decided to commission this celebration it was strange to put t on so early. NYE's schedule wasn't good so maybe it could have been slotted in there.
Pity Miranda only ran for 20 episodes especially as it was a bit of a slow burner. Maybe they could have done what they did with Mrs Brown's Boys and just do a special or two a year. Once a sitcom is established and you know the characters then to write it should be easier as you only have to think up the jokes and situations. But if Miranda had thought the show had gone as far as she felt it could then that is fair enough.

I want to give a shout out to a couple of films on iplayer for people who may not have seen them. Murder On The Orient Express with Albert Finney, the definitive Hercule Poirot and a fabulous cast which eclipsed Branagh’s recent attempt by miles. Death On The Nile with Peter Ustinov as a different but equally fantastic Poirot and an absolutely stellar cast including Bette Davis and Maggie Smith which will not be eclipsed by Branagh’s upcoming effort. Evil Under The Sun with Ustinov as Poirot again, and Diana Rigg and Maggie Smith Looking bloody fab and bitching the hell out of eachother. The Mirror Crack’d is also on one of the catch ups, might be My5. Liz Taylor, Rock Hudson and Angela Lansbury as Miss Marple. I stayed at The Old Cataract hotel in Aswan once which is where the scenes were filmed before they boarded the cruise ship and whilst watching the TV in the room the film came on. It was very surreal being there and watching it at the same time. |

Derry Girls Bake Off on Ch4. So funny. Those mixers! And... "Well what about how Liza must feel?" "You could set the Thames with that!" I've just watched it. Funniest thing on TV this Christmas. Some real laugh out loud moments. |

Episode 2 of Dracula was even better. More focused. Very tense.
Nice Inside No. 9 reference.
And some genuinely clever twists.

Watched Derry Girls on Bake off and then episode 1 of Dracula. Rather regretting the order I watched them in, now it’s time to go to sleep!!!!

Just finished Christmas carol, found it very slow, episode one only really redeemed by the hint of something to do with mrs cratchitt, it did get better but found scrounge in the main the least interesting bit.
Should I skip Dracula? Being both squeamish and easily given nightmares?

Should I skip Dracula? Being both squeamish and easily given nightmares? Watched the first episode tonight and just barely made it through, peggs. It’s pretty unpleasant. That said, you can (mostly) guess when the gore is coming and close your eyes (and ears). But it’s also funny at times and boy, they know how to ratchet up the tension, do Moffat and Gatiss... so I’ll probably be back for episode 2 at the weekend! I did have to laugh at the scene with the nuns at the gate, though. Now I see why they hired a Nordic actor for Dracula... ;-) |

So many not good Xmas specials. Can we just get back to the ordinary rubbish please? Did people see that Gavin and Stacey came in at 9 in the most watched of all the decade amid a swathe of footie and Olympics? Amazing.

I actually didn’t enjoy DRACULA as much tonight. I loved the first episode - it was gripping, and bar one or two moments didn’t drag. Plus, it was very funny. I feel that the second episode lost some of this, as him bumping off passengers one by one became somewhat dull after a while. I also really didn’t understand the twist at the very end of the episode. I understood what happened, I just didn’t understand why. Maybe someone would like to explain to me, unless all will become clear in tomorrow’s episode.
However, it is still much better than anything that has been on TV during the Christmas Period, and most of 2019 come to that! I look forward to tomorrow’s conclusion.

Dracula feels like the drama equivalent of a big jumbled Quality Street tub with nods to pretty well every horror and genre pic they must have seen growing up, including all those Poirots. Maybe it should have been on last week, instead of the downbeat Christmas Carol. This is rather silly and better suited to that slightly drunk laid back, undemanding family atmos.

As a teenager 'watched' bram stoker Dracula as everyone else wanted too a d spent most of the time behind a cushion. It's amazing just home much more you can identify when not watching so maybe I'll just rewatch the Derry girls bake off again as a safer option.

Mentioned earlier but a clear favourite for me was Wurzel Gummidge.
Low expectations overcome with delightful innocence, a beautiful soundtrack and a backdrop of rural landscapes to die for.

The first 40 minutes or so are quite creepy, most of the angst c/o a great performance from John Heffernan, but once the Count rejuvenates it gets very panto, and last night's, set on a ship, wasn't scary at all. Tonally it's very reminiscent of their Sherlock vs Moriarty episodes, with Dolly Wells' van Helsing as the slightly 'on-the-spectrum' pale, cheekboned sleuth and Dracula camping it up as Moriarty. It doesn't bear much resemblance to the novel. |

I would watch more of Agatha, but I thought that was a pretty definite ending, surely? I didn't enjoy episode 3 nearly as much as the first two, although it was fun, in a bonkers way, and Lydia West was good. But the first two episodes were excellent, I thought.

I enjoyed Episode 3 of DRACULA - it seemed to return to more of the humour of Episode 1, and I thought some of the twists were genuinely with the twist that left me scratching my head at the end of Episode 2 finally making sense. However, I just did not buy the ending, and thought it was such a weak pay-off for all the time that had been invested.

Well it seems I’m a glutton for punishment, because I watched episode 2 tonight. Unlike some viewers, I really enjoyed it. I thought there was a good mix of intrigue and humour. My stomach contents and I could really do without all the fingernail shedding, though...
I’ll now duck out of this thread until I’ve seen the final ep!

It's a shame. I think there's a problem with some writers/screenwriters becoming sacred cows, with no-one daring to step in to suggest changes. It's like the TV version of A Very, Very, Very Dark Matter. I went back and watched the first two Sherlocks last month and they were excellent - the show ended up going so up itself by the last series I had forgotten how good it was when it began.
