Twenty years ago Su Pollard would have kicked it’s arse! Left field choice but a good enough actress to pull it off with heart, and one of those brassy belty big voices. I’m not sure we could say the same of Ms Walsh.

If you can't have Su Pollard, why not go for her modern equivalent... Ginny Lemon!
Fancy a slice?

Well Jane Mcdonald could belt it out I'm sure.

Well Jane Mcdonald could belt it out I'm sure. Dame Jane! The obvious choice :-) While we are waiting for this, hopefully they'll give her the Joseph Narrator gig innit.

Doyou think Jane would even be interested in doing ANY musical? Very hard work and I’m sure not as lucrative as her own tours which, since the Heinrich affair, she produces herself?

No Burly, I don’t think so. She clearly enjoys her life as it is. Touring once a year, maybe an album, a bit of cruising, 6 episodes of a series filmed over a couple of days. Why work any harder if you don’t need to? She knows who she is, who her audience are and exactly what level of product she can ‘get away’ with.

I’m pretty sure she doesn’t base her career on doing the bare minimum she can ‘get away with’ I don’t imagine she gets offered much at all in terms of musical roles. The gays love her but that doesn’t mean she’s on the radar of producers. I bet though if Chicago was still running, she’d definitely have played Mama Morton by now.

It wasn’t meant in a derogatory way, more in a respect! kind of manner. Why change something that is clearly working for her. She is a massive talent, and I find it hard to believe she hasn’t been offered other stuff after her run in ‘Cats’. I can only assume that it is her choice...and its not just the gays what love her. The wrinklies lap her up too!

Last time I saw the show it was a tour with Anita Dobson in the lead. Wasn't the best thing ever to go round, but not the worst.
I know some don't like her, but the role would suit Jolie Prenger. She can belt out a show tune but also has a vulnerability. She is also a similar age to Carol Channing who created the role.

I love how this has gone from Imelda to every naff performer going. Just waiting for Ria Jones to be mentioned next.
I personally want to see a proper star performer do this.
Christine Baranski? Goldie Hawn? Kate Winslet?

Imelda confirmed in a CFT chat just now that the earliest she can do HD is 2023 but they are going to push hard to get it done that year. She also highlighted that Dolly is Irish and so can talk and so that might be her unique take on the role.
