Owning a West End theatre must be great! You know it's a business and not a hobby... Erm...Yes. I think you'll find I know quite abit about financial sides of theatre than you probably think I do. I've had meetings with a few west end producers already. I mean it must be great though, being in charge of what shows go there and everything. But then you've got to think of what shows are going to make money too.

We can have a special show once a month where the whole audience get virtual reality headsets and watch and react to a range of different shows

A theatreboard owned theatre. Can't we just have a whip round on 'ere? The support we have had here through moving to the new board, all the inventiveness that was flying around then and I think we can easily raise the funds and make a go of it. Sounds a fine plan. Programming might be a challenge with such diverse tastes though If we know what's good for us, we'd put Parsley in charge of programming. Reminds me of this joke, actually:

Yes, and what fun we will have sorting out any bad behaviour from the audience. One rustle from a sweet wrapper and you are out the door. And don't even THINK of getting your phone out.
In fact, thinking about it, we could expressly give carte blanche to our actors to pause mid-performance and harangue any miscreant audience members. I am sure that would draw crowds, never mind which production we have chosen.

We should alternate plays and musicals. Every member could put in suggestions and then vote for the best ideas.
I think all the seats should be in individual boxes, facing the stage, so as to avoid annoyance to other theatre-goers. The walls-between could be removed to allow bigger groups to sit together. Haha.

The fatal logistical flaw would be that everyone would feel entitled to pay mere pennies to sit in the front row at the first preview.

Haha. I don't like democracy, a small clique can dominate votes.
I was in a book club that chose books that way and we chose the same book all the time. I had to split the cabal, ensure there was enough votes for a quorum and change our constitution. I want Parsley's selection.

I would like to see a theatre new or old be renamed the Rattigan or Terrence Rattigan Theatre, maybe the Playhouse would be a suitable candidate for renaming or the new Nimax theatre?

If I bought a theatre I would erect a statue of Parsley in the foyer with the inscription from Dante: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here"! Funniest thing I have read this year!

I feel that we're missing a theatre named in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh. We've already got most other senior British royals:
Queen's Theatre (Queen Elizabeth II) Her Majesty's Theatre (Queen Elizabeth II) Prince of Wales Theatre (Charles, Prince of Wales) King's Cross Theatre (King Charles III) Cambridge Theatre (William & Kate, Duke & Duchess of Cambridge) Harold Pinter Theatre, aka The Harry (Prince Harry) Duchess Theatre (Camilla & Kate, Duchesses of Cornwall & Cambridge) Duke of York's Theatre (Andy, grand old Duke of York) Prince Edward Theatre (Edward, Duke of Wessex) Theatre Royal Haymarket (Princess Anne & Zara Phillips & the Royal horses) Fortune Theatre (the entire Royal Family) Royal Court Theatre (all the Royal hangers-on)

Prince of Wales and Prince Edward are 2 of my favourites.
I have said on here for a while now that London needs 2 new theatres with seating between 1500 and 1800 seats, it has been a fantasy of mine to build these two theatres together, my fantasy theatre would have the first champagne bar, it would also have just one unisex toilet on each level, I would have this as a follie, but have seperate Men/Ladies door but lead in the same area, it would be cubicle only, with each cubicle having its own wash hand basin, so this would eliminate any queues. Each level would be served by escalator and lift.
Above the theatre I would have a top restaurant, run by someone like Heston Blumindahl or Marcus Wareing and above that I would have a Casino.
I would get the best shows, even ones that have flopped on Broadway.

I'd buy the Queen's just to kick Les Mis out. It's been running way too long.

If I owned a theatre, I wouldn't care how many seats or toilets it had or how big the foyer was so long as the FOH staff were hot and wore something tight.

Haven't you got to start with a bus stop or a converted toilet? Then slowly move up til eventually they build a theatre for you on the South Bank...

How much would the average theatre cost though? The Palace is bigger than average isn't it? Any idea how much the Phoenix or Noel Coward would cost?

The Dominion would be quite nice. If it wasn't in the middle of nowhere as far as theatreland is concerned, I think it would be massively popular.

The Phoenix, Prince Edward, and Palace are all within a 5 minute walk. With the Queen's, Gielgud, St. Martin's, Wyndham's and Garrick within 10 minutes.

With Crossrail coming, Tottenham Court Road will see a boost, Nimax has a new theatre coming in 2020 which essentially replaces the Astoria but will be for small plays with a flexible auditorium.
