I'd love to own the Savoy.
What theatres would you like to own?

I'd love to own the Savoy. What theatres would you like to own? You know that Sheridan probably wouldn't be included right?

I wouldn't mind taking ownership of somewhere like the Battersea Arts Centre. Maybe I'd buy a bunch of empty warehouses and office buildings too, on the offchance some of them would take the fancy of Punchdrunk...

If I were to buy, Theatre Royal Dury Lane always seems busy abd beautiful. But really, I'd prefer to use the money to build a modern 500 seater for fringe transfers, tours and regional stuff coming into town and showcasing new work but on a bigger scale.

Isn't that what the Sondheim and the new Nimax theatre will be for? i wonder Cameron Mackintosh paid for the VP? I've read he's spending £30m on the refurb which seems a lot considering the mooted figure was £12m, I wonder if perhaps he paid £18m for the VP and paying for the refurb which is £12m. If I were to build a new theatre, I'd build a 1200-1500 seater with modern facilities and a cafe. If I were to buy a existing one, I'd like the Prince Edward or the Prince of Wales

I've always loved the Savoy, it's been my favourite theatre for ages due to the beautiful Art Deco and how nice the theatre is laid out! It's a perfect sizes too! The recent and future shows there add to the bonus of it too. I also love the Adelphi and Drury Lane

I'm very fond of the Fortune.
I find the Shaftesbury to be one of the most beautiful and "theatre-ish"

I like the Gielgud and the Novello (although I haven't been to either for a while).
The Prince Edward pleasantly surprised me a lot when I went to see Miss Saigon.
However, I would love to buy the Savoy Theatre so I could give it a proper entrance again. When I went to see Guys and Dolls it was the most underwhelming entrance to a Theatre I've ever felt. The bar areas all felt a bit cramped but I loved the actual auditorium.
Would love to redo the bar areas of the Coliseum too. They're so bland, especially upstairs.

I'd love to remodel the Queen's Theatre facade which had been in the planning for a long time but never came into fruition and also maybe remodel the front of the New London so it look less of an eyesore.

Yes the Prince Edward is beautiful! I agree about the Savoy entrance, but where could it go? I think it's nice how you are next to the hotel entrance too. I'm not to dong of going down so many stairs, but it's not that bad! The auditorium is so beautiful and the location is ideal! I'd love to own a west end theatre!

I think someone on here told me how the main entrance used to be on Carting Lane. This website is what I found after I was told that: www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/SavoyTheatre.htmI don't know what the entrance was like back then, how big it was etc. I love the walk up to the Savoy Hotel but then to have to go into a small dark little space and down some stairs takes away a bit of the experience of going to the Theatre to me. (West End/Broadway type Theatre, not fringe obviously.) In all the other Theatres I mentioned (even the Coliseum) the main entrances/foyers are grand and something to look at. I guess having the entrance basically on The Strand is more prestigious though. They've done their best with the cramped space they've got but it's a bit of a disappointment.

If I bought a theatre I would erect a statue of Parsley in the foyer with the inscription from Dante: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here"!

i quite fancy one. If one came on the market how much do you think it would cost? A theatreboard owned theatre. Can't we just have a whip round on 'ere? The support we have had here through moving to the new board, all the inventiveness that was flying around then and I think we can easily raise the funds and make a go of it.
